Chapter 1 Confrontation

It had been a decade since we were married. I led a group of men to excavate Jackie's first love's grave. Everyone around us praised him for being a loyal man. He never forgot his first love though she'd already died ten years ago. He'd go to the cemetery and celebrate her birthday all by himself every year. Yvonne's name was always at the top of his contact list. I was not angry at all. Instead, I was glad I married someone so loyal. But then, another deathday came. I saw a photo of him kissing the supposedly dead Yvonne in Lutecia when I went through his phone.I went to the cemetery, my phone in hand showing the photo. I was shivering as I demanded answers. He snatched the phone away and looked at me icily. "Are you mad, Wisteria? She's already long dead, and you're trying to sully her name with this?"I looked at the photo on the headstone. She looked a bit like me, and I laughed until tears streamed down my cheeks. "Yeah, she's dead. So, tell me, how'd a dead woman spend

Chapter 2 To Frame Her

The Maybach was zooming down the road. Jackie would take a glance at me through the rear-view mirror, though there was only scorn for me in his eyes. All the love and care he showed me was an act.It was all so I would give him my family's wealth and catapult him from a nobody to a business owner. I must've been blind to buy into his so-called 'true love' story. My phone buzzed. An unknown number texted me. 'I heard you found out, Wisteria. When Jackie heard I was scared, he promised he'd come back to my place tonight. I hope your empty house isn't too icy for your taste.'I was going to text back, but Jackie saw the messages, and he slammed the brakes. "You're going that far for a show?" He tried to take my phone away again. "You have way too much time on your hands if you keep coming up with these!"I kept my hand around my phone tightly, and then he slapped me across the face. "Are you mad, Jackie?"Jackie sneered and tossed the phone out the window. "No, you're mad, you ungrat

Chapter 3 Her Father's Text

I was going to go to bed, but that number texted me again. She sent me a dozen videos. I played the first one, and the content froze my blood. Yvonne was in my silk pajamas, lying on the bed in the main bedroom. Softly, she asked, "It's your wife's birthday. Maybe you should be with her."The camera turned to Jackie. He was coming out of the bathroom. He approached the bed and bent over to kiss Yvonne's forehead. Lovingly, he said, "Let's not talk about her. It's your 'deathday' today. Of course I'm staying with you."Jackie told me he'd take me to the mountain and have a fireworks show during my last birthday. I waited for him the whole night and nearly fainted from the freezing cold. He never showed up.He told me he had an urgent meeting to handle. That urgent meeting was about a dead woman, of course.'Do you like the videos, Wisteria? He told me he'd never have married you if it weren't for your family's resources. Oh right, that car crash? It was no accident. The truck dr

Chapter 4 Dragged Out

A pair of bodyguards grabbed me by my arms and dragged me out, but I thrashed and squirmed and struggled. "Let me go! Do you have any idea who I am?"A bodyguard slapped my face, and the impact made me bleed from my mouth."Yeah, a mad housekeeper who stole her boss' clothes! You're nothing! Mr. Kissinger's orders. Try anything funny, and we break your legs! Don't get in the way if you know what's good for you! Now scram!"The bodyguard grabbed my hair and tossed me onto the asphalt outside the backdoor. For some reason, the chill of the ground sobered up my chaotic mind.I was the heiress of Oliviero International, not some poor woman any bastard could push around. I would make them pay right now. I didn't even want to wait for my dad.I leaned on the wall as I slowly got back up, then I went to the manager's office right beside the lobby. The manager noticed my disheveled look, and he frowned. "Who the hell are you, woman? This isn't a place for asylum inmates," he said impatien

Chapter 5 In Disbelief

Jackie's phone slid out of his hand and fell to the ground with a thud. He stared at the kissing scene on the screen, then at the guests' faces. The erstwhile partners who raised a toast earlier took a step back. The whispers in the corner were the first to break the silence, and whispers turned into roars."He crossed the Olivieros? Is he mad?""A 750-million-dollar investment? Yeah, right. It's going to kill him.""He's deep in debt, and his partners are pulling out. His company's going bankrupt. He's done for."The discussion poked and prodded at Jackie. What little color he had left disappeared. His lips were trembling, yet he couldn't say a word. He wanted to grab someone, but all his adoring partners now stayed far away from him. Some of them put their glasses down and stepped back even further, just in case his mess dragged them into it.Yvonne was quaking in fear. She grabbed Jackie's arm. Shakily, she said, "W-What now, Jackie? Is it true? Your company's bankrupt?"J

Chapter 6 Unbelievable Man

His voice grew louder with every passing moment, and his drool spewed everywhere."You kept that secret on purpose! You wanted to see me beg and please you like a clown all for a morsel of resources! I was nothing but a toy to you!"Now he was twisting the story again. Pathetic. "I said nothing because I thought you loved me for who I was, not my family's money. You kept going after my family's money while spending it on your affair with Yvonne. Now, you're blaming me?""Bullshit!" Jackie charged ahead, trying to grab my wrist. My assistant stopped him. He struggled to get away, and his eyes were still filled with vicious hostility. "I had an affair with Yvonne because you're frigid! I'd never have started it if you'd just tell me you were the heiress and gave me the resources! It's all your fault! You made me do it!"He turned his attention to the other guests like they could save him. "Come on, say something! She's Oliviero International's heiress, but she said nothing to me a

Chapter 7 Begging

I did not see Jackie again for two weeks after that. My lawyers dealt with everything. The company's legal team worked fast, and they found evidence for the asset transfer. Six months ago, he discreetly gave his company's core tech to an overseas firm as collateral and tried to run away with the cash.We also found the truck driver who crashed into me. Jackie had been paying him hush money all these years, so he hid in his hometown and never showed his face. My father tapped into his connections to find him there. Then, he showed the guy the call history and proof of the transactions. The driver finally cracked. He confessed that Jackie told him to crash into me. Jackie promised to give his daughter a job. "He said if I crash into Ms. Oliviero hard enough so she could never be a mother, no one could stop him from marrying Ms. Willson."With a trembling voice, he continued, "The devil spoke in my ear. I thought if I could get my daughter a nice job, I…" Someone was writing it d

Chapter 8 New Future

He was begging so humbly. It took me back to those days ten years ago. His business failed, and he was crying on the roadside. I handed him a card and said, "It's alright. You can start over."His eyes shone. "I'll give you the best the world has to offer, Wisteria! I swear."The best the world had to offer? Now that I thought of it, he only wanted it for himself. Finally, I met his eyes. "Do you know what you did wrong?"He paused for a moment, stunned. Then, he answered, "I should never have lied to you. Should never have transferred the assets. Should never have had that affair. Should—""No," I cut him off. "Your biggest mistake was you never saw me as a person." I paused for a moment, watching his face freeze up. Then, I continued, "You married me for my family's resources. You set up the car crash that took my womb away just so you could marry Yvonne."You pretended to be a loving, loyal man for ten years and used me as a stepping stone. You treated my love for you as a joke
