A knot in my chest

CRISTIAN “There's your bitch.” Chuck whistled in a direction. We all looked and yeah, Aaliyah just came down the stairs with Lacy. They whispered something to each other and giggled. Lacy headed to the main kitchen while Aaliyah headed to the coffee counter. It's actually at the other end of the room. “Excuse me,” I said, heading to my daughter. “Dude, ain't we going to pick up the stuff anymore?” Joe asked. The stuff. He’s talking about a limited, branded Italian suit that I convinced the dealers to prepare for him. He couldn't convince them himself. He needed my connection. So I stepped in, and they agreed, at a reasonable, lower price. It got shipped down here last night. We were supposed to go pick it up, but after all that rambling about Lacy, I might as well ask them to return it.I ignored him and kept walking. Aaliyah was struggling with the coffee machine. Thank God I came over. My girl can't do shit to save her life. But she's the sweetest. She's just not domestic. “

She's messy

CRISTIAN“Martha, tell me the truth. Did you take the jewelry box?” Jocey was interrogating the tenth maid and she had the same response as everyone else. “No, Ma'am. I didn't.” The maid replied. I sighed in sheer exasperation. This was getting exhausting. At this point, it was safe to believe the box vanished into thin air. Because no one was ready to admit they took it. “I'm really sorry, Sir.” Jocey turned to me. “I wish they were lying. But they're not. I've worked with them for years to know when they're being honest.”I ran a hand through my hair while nodding. “Sure. So what do we do now? If no one took the box, then maybe some ghost did.”“I know about the box because I take care of Aaliyah's things. The box was there until yesterday. If it vanished, then it was today. And I'm not trying to accuse anyone or to be rude, but…” she paused anxiously. “But what, Jocey? Tell me.” I insisted calmly, easing her anxiety. “But I think someone stole it. Someone out there at that par

Deal

CRISTIAN “What?” I was beyond dumbfounded. I had my suspicions. I really did. But God, I'd expected her to deny it. Tell me she didn't do it. Tell me I was wrong. Tell me my intuitions were playing tricks on me. I wasn't mentally ready for such blunt truth. And worse, I wasn't sure what to do with such truth. “I took the box,” she reiterated in a very shaky voice. “But believe me, I didn't mean to hurt her. I saw it and I thought she wasn't using them anymore. You know Aaliyah got a lot of beautiful stuff she doesn't make use of anymore. I thought she wouldn't notice its disappearance. I thought she wouldn't give a fuck...”“Are you a kleptomaniac?” I blurted out my question, stopping her rambling. “Is it an addiction? Are you cursed? Must you steal everything shiny? Or do you have a crazy obsession with jewelry?”“I'm not a kleptomaniac.” She said, as tears rolled down her face. A girl like her would effortlessly shed fake tears to get away with this. I shouldn't be moved by thos

Goodbye

LACY My fingers quivered as I slowly undid his belt. He was seated on the edge of the bed. I was kneeling between his thighs, while trying to undo his belt. But my fingers wouldn't stop trembling. For some unknown reason, I always feel a bit nervous around him. Not because he's got a hideous look. But just, I don't know, but there's just something about him that effortlessly unnerves me. I gasped lightly when he softly placed his hand on mine. He slowly took my hand down and undid the belt himself. Every second of that, his eyes stayed on me. Like he was trying to memorize every inch of my face. “Is your name really Lacy?” he asked, with a husky, breathy voice that made my insides tingle. “Yes.”“Do you like my friend, Joe?”Where's that question coming from?“Hmm?” He cocked a brow.“I think he's a sweet guy.”His jaw clenched. “Is that a yes?”“It's not a yes. Your friend is sweet but that's just it.”He exhaled. Like he was relieved or something. He took off the belt, but didn

Unhealthy feelings

CRISTIAN “She left?!” Aaliyah was having a hard time digesting the news. Jocey just told her that Lacy left first thing at dawn. “Yes, Ma'am. She said she had some family stuff to attend to. She didn't wanna disturb your sleep. So she pleaded with me to inform you.”“I don't understand. What do you mean? Why would she leave? We have one more day to spend here. We're both supposed to return to school tomorrow.”“She's not returning to school though. She said she had to meet a family member. She said it was urgent.”“What family member?” Aaliyah scoffed, ruffling her hair. Then her gaze found me. “Daddy, did you know about this?”“What? Of course not. Why would I?” I didn't mean to sound as nervous as I did. And the slight chuckle I did made me sound even more nervous. It's just that my emotions are all over the place. I'm having a hard time keeping them together. “What's going on?” Michael asked, tapping my shoulder. He wasn't alone. Chuck and Joe were behind him. They were coming

LACY I got off the phone with Aaliyah just as the taxi stopped in front of the hotel. I paid the taxi driver and got out of the taxi. My longing eyes watched as he drove off. Every bit of me wanted to scream for him to please take me out of here. But I held my tongue, straightened my back, and began climbing the steps. I approached the receptionist just as ‘he’d’ ordered me to. She handed me a bag. I smiled blankly at her and headed for the elevator. It was just me in the elevator. Just then my phone beeped. It was a text message. From him. Mad Dog. -Put it on-I opened the bag to see what was inside. Pasties. And a g-string. Without hesitation, I took off my clothes and my underwear. I wore the pasties and the g-string. The elevator door opened. I walked out of the elevator and headed to his room number. I only had to knock once and then the door opened. There he was, standing behind the door. He was holding the doorknob with one hand and a blunt with the other. He was shirtl

A month later

LACYI handed over the coffee to the customer with a smile. “Have a good day, Sir.”“You too,” the elderly man who looked like he was in his 60s replied. He nodded at my colleague and walked off. I was at my normal job. I work in a middle-class café. The pay is peanuts and doesn't compare to what I earn from my nightlife. But this job is normal. It gives me the taste of normalcy that I lack in my twisted and fucked up life. It gives me peace of mind. There are no overly horny billionaires ogling at me here. I don't have to endure lewd remarks here. Working here is also a nice way to let off academic steam after each day of stress in school. And to top it all, there's a sweet colleague here who does a lot of talking. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it. Listening to her keeps me distracted. Keeps me out of my head, the one place I don't want to be. “What do you think I should do, Lacy?” My colleague, Katie, pouted. She's been going on and on about some guy in her Church and how badly s

Saving my Mum

LACY I'd give anything to tell her that wasn't the truth. But God knows I'd be lying. Aaliyah's Daddy got to me. In the worst way ever. He got into my head. He made me feel a sense of shame I've never felt about that lifestyle. That's why I hate him so much right now. I really hope I never see him again. The woman seated in front of me smiled coldly and slid a card to me. “Let me know if you change your mind.”She stood, dropped some cash on the table, and left, taking her cold presence with her. I sat a few seconds longer at the table, trying to get myself together. Once I was done with that, I returned the coffee to the counter. “She didn't even take a sip.” Katie gasped. “It's alright. She paid.” I showed her the cash. She tipped me an extra $400. I don't know if that was an upfront payment for the job she wants me to do. Or bribe me into accepting the job. My whole day felt like a depressing spin of endless thoughts. I couldn't stop thinking about the woman from earlier and

CRISTIAN“…and with this, we get to sign the deal. The Russians are happy. We're a billion dollars richer. It's a win-win for everyone.” Davidson, one of my specialists concluded, pointing at the big projector screen. There were five of us in this room. We've been teeth-deep working sleeplessly for days, trying to come up with an incredible plan for the Russian project. It's a once-in-a-lifetime deal. It's everything I've ever wished for since I ventured into business. It's…gold. It's one fucking jackpot. And God, I've been on it for days. For a week. I've been obsessed with coming up with one hell of a well-detailed structured plan for this deal. The five other men in the room with me are my highly trained specialist who helps come up with these brilliant ideas. We've been brainstorming. I've been canceling out most of their ideas. Because I needed it to be pristinely perfect. “Sir?” One of the other men called me. They all look anxious. They're probably worried that I would canc

It's you

LACY“Madam Beatrice, I can't do this,” I confessed, still holding the picture of the man who hadn't left my mind since that Christmas night. “What?” Madam Beatrice gasped in disbelief and anger. She was the woman who came to see me at the café. I called her because clearly, I needed the money from the job. But that was before I understood what the job was about. “You're saying you can't steal from him?” She continued in disbelief. “Janet says you're a professional at that. She also said the man knows you. You've been with him one night. She thinks he has a fever for you…”“He doesn't!” “That's not what I heard. From what I heard, he paid a fucking amount to have you. I also heard he's been looking for you. He's searched everywhere for you. Janet didn't want to tell him where to find you.”“Madam Janet doesn't know where to find me during the day.”“Oh, don't be ridiculous.” She laughed, dropping into her seat. “How do you think I found that little café where you work? She gave me
