REINAAfter I drop the call, I go back inside and gather my things, waiting for Alan on the side of the road.He has the exact address of my house—of course, he’s my boss—but I decide to just wait for him by the road still. It feels too personal, meeting at our house… and there’s just too many personal things going on between us lately.I just start registering everything around me in the chilly evening, and letting fear start to sink, when Alan’s BMW pulls up beside me.He gets off the car and opens my side for me, shutting it when I enter inside. I almost finally smile at how he’s unconsciously dropping his hard walls, becoming less grumpy around me, but the heaviness of this morning/afternoon wouldn’t just leave me.Alan doesn’t ask any questions as he starts the engine and we hit the road. He lets me look outside the window throughout the drive, his speakers softly playing classics. The night breeze blows across my face and I eventually shut my eyes, feeling like I don’t want this

REINAI shut the door after James, who came to my room with a box filled with all of the stuff I’ve ever given to Thelma. It really annoys me how petty she’s acting because of all this. James said she did all that because she was really close with Alan’s wife. According to him, she wanted to see if he’s really sleeping around or we just have something special going on between us. She’s confirmed it’s the latter, and she’s disappointed in me for jumping him and mixing business with pleasure when she’s warned against it.“She thinks you’ll get hurt, and she’s only angry because she tried to warn you as a big sister, but you refused to listen.” James said. This is all coming after my trip to the station. The officers seemed to all be on my side at first… well, until they saw Jeff. The moment I saw the subtle hint of fear in their eyes, I knew I’d lost my case.A few of them tried their best to open a case file, at least. But it all ended in a discussion, and a later date was set for more

ALAN“Come with me to my resort. I sent you a text. You never gave me a response.”It’s Friday morning and the next day, exactly two days to Christmas and the resort launch. She’s in my office, going through my books one after the other as if she’s looking for a particular one.“Saw your text.” She swirls around and my eyes immediately casts down on her smooth legs.Yes, I finally let her wear her old uniform again. I’m already regretting it, but I can no longer afford to be selfish to her.“And?”I get off my seat and walk towards her. She clutches a book to her chest and watches me warily.“And it’s just been a lot going on, but uh… I guess I’d like to go. When? And is Ethan coming along?”I stop in front of her, shaking my head no. “Ethan would not be coming with us.”“Oh.”“Yeah.”“And we can go today, if you want. No. We should go today.” I cup her cheek, lost in her blue orbs. She smiles. “Okay, I’d love to go.”My hand comes around her waist. I blurt out, “Do you know how fucki

REINA“Oh.” I mouth, turning back to the ward with awe I’m sure he clearly saw on my face.“She’ll be okay.” He assures me. I wrap my arms around myself and nod stiffly. Seeing Gramma for the first time in there, I can still remember the moment my heart completely stopped beating and I lost awareness, not even knowing how I got in front of her and knelt. She felt cold, sweat covering her body, but she opened her eyes along the line and she touched my face. Tears rolled down Gramma’s eyes, and she had hold me,“I wanted to speak to you for the last time. Where were you, Ray? I’m dying…”I suddenly developed strength I’d never felt before, and instead of offering her an answer, I picked her off the ground and managed to drag her outside.I’m trying to calm my racing heart now. Be positive. Gramma would come out of this alive. She has to.“I’m really sorry about your side mirrors. I know the guy who did it, and I already texted Tee. He’ll handle it.” I finally shake off my thoughts, fac

ALANA DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS“I’m sorry I couldn’t meet with you yesterday as agreed, Norman. I had an emergency.” I usher Judge Norman to a seat across my desk. It’s the morning of Saturday—the day before Christmas. He lowers himself onto the chair while I sit on mine and says, “It’s no problem, Mr King. I hope you have it handled now?”“Yeah, it’s all being worked on.” I say, then swiftly drive to the point, “Someone harassed an employee of mine and wants to get away with it. I want you to handle the case directly.”He nods. “Of course Sir, as you wish. Can I know the details of this case? Is there evidence? Something I can go through?”“Of course. She had some evidence recorded.”I take out my phone and get him to watch everything Reina managed to record. I see his face get tighter by the second, and at the end of the meeting he’d as determined to bring Jeff to his knees as I am.“I’ll see to it that this Jeff faces the full consequences of his crimes. I assure you.” Judge Norman tel
