Chapter 1

Papa was stunned to hear my words. He then chuckled and said, "You're finally willing to let go of that precious CEO of yours now, Zoe? I've told you that someone his status is only good for you to fool around with before marriage. He's far from good enough to marry you."So, when are you planning to come back?"I glanced at a nearby couple. They were wrapped in a tight embrace amidst a cheering crowd. I whispered, "In three days. I'll come back after I settle everything."Perhaps sensing the weight in my voice, Papa replied seriously, "Don't worry. The Sortino heir is absolutely exceptional in both looks and ability. You won't be disappointed."After ending the call, I stood stiffly in the bustling airport. I only turned and walked away after I saw the man I've loved for five years personally put a ring on another woman's finger. This was the moment I'd dreamed of, but now I was no more than a bystander.Someone bumped into me while I was distracted, and I fell to the ground. P

Chapter 2

Simone said, "It's not easy being my assistant. He got woken up by me in the middle of the night to deliver a gift, only to be kicked out by my tesoro."Chuckling softly, he ruffled my hair. "You're getting more temperamental, Zoe. Looks like I'll have to come and persuade you myself."Simone then brushed my hair aside, reaching to fasten the necklace around my neck.He was close enough for me to clearly notice the red marks on his neck. I could also catch a whiff of the sweet, unfamiliar perfume lingering on him.My stomach twisted in an instant. I slapped Simone's hand away, my tone icy when I said, "Stop pretending, Simone. I saw you proposing to her at the airport yesterday."His hand froze, as a flicker of restraint crossed his eyes. However, he quickly masked it with calm. "You've misunderstood, Zoe. Jasmina was forced into an arranged marriage by her family, so she asked me to help put on an act."She's been my friend for years. I can't let her marry someone she doesn't lo

Chapter 3

Someone exclaimed, "You didn't receive anything, Zoe? But Mr. Pozzi always treats you the best!"It was hard to describe how I'd felt at that moment. I felt like laughing more than getting upset. I wanted to laugh at how foolish I was for the past three years.Back then, tired from all the infighting of my mafia famiglia, I chose to run away. I wasn't expecting to meet Simone at the company I worked at.At that time, he wasn't a CEO yet, but only an ordinary coworker of mine. He had no subordinates at his beck and call and no ability to throw millions around on a whim.We brainstormed proposals, had lunch together, and stole kisses in the office corridors. After we got together, Simone said he wanted to start a business. I transferred the money to him without hesitation. He built this company with my support, pulling me into his arms excitedly when it finally succeeded.Simone told me that he'd used up all his luck in meeting me. He'd promised me a beautiful future and a happy

Chapter 4

That night, my Facebook feed was flooded with photos from the gathering my colleagues posted. In one video, Simone kept Jasmina close at his side, not letting her take even a single sip of alcohol.Someone asked, "Are you really firing Zoe Mr. Pozzi? She's done so much for the company over the years."Simone swirled the drink in his wine glass. Disdain flashed through his eyes as he answered casually, "Of course not. I was just scaring her since she embarrassed me in public. She's been spoiled for far too long, so I had to teach her a lesson."The person fell silent for a brief moment before reminding him, "But Mr. Pozzi, some colleagues saw Z oe crying outside the company…""So what?" Simone chuckled. "It's normal to cry. How about we make a bet, let's see if she'll show up to work tomorrow."The crowd eagerly joined in, and the party plunged back into laughter and excitement. Even colleagues who used to be close to me placed their bets along with him.In the end, over 30 peopl

Chapter 5

It was already noon by the time Simone woke up.He was naked, with last night's scent still lingering on his body. He called for me several times, but no response came. Then, Simone noticed the hangover pill on the table and smiled smugly. Just as he thought, all it took was a little cajoling to get me obediently coming back. After a quick wash, he headed over to the office. He even stopped on the way to buy my favorite pastries. As soon as Simone arrived, he went straight to my desk, but it was empty. He glanced at his watch. "It's already 2:00 pm, and she still hasn't shown up?"No one answered him. Instead, everyone was looking at Simone strangely. They were hesitant to speak. It wasn't until someone handed him a phone and carefully asked, "Mr. Pozzi, what exactly is your relationship with Zoe? She posted a breakup announcement with you on Facebook—"Before the sentence was finished, Simone snatched the phone away. He stared blankly at the line of text on the screen. After

Chapter 6

I hummed a soft reply.Rosario's tone was gentle, yet laced with unmistakable aggression.I turned my head to the side and watched the shadows of trees and buildings slide past the window. It had been less than three years since I left, yet nothing here seemed to have changed.Suddenly, my phone vibrated. A colleague had sent me a video.Simone was smashing things in his office while shouting at Mr. Bianchi. He looked furious and in disbelief. The last time he lost control like this was the day his startup failed. But whatever he was feeling now had nothing to do with me."What a crazy dog," Rosario said from beside me.I glanced down at the screen and hummed. "Indeed."…The car ended up stopping at the gates of the Sortino residence. In order to get us closer, Papa insisted that I live together with Rosario before the wedding. He prepared ten different estates for me in a range of styles from retro to fairytale and even modern minimalism.I ended up choosing modern minim

Chapter 7

I hummed softly, a long-forgotten sense of happiness bubbling inside me.I'd assumed I would be dissatisfied with this arranged marriage. Instead, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.Suddenly, my phone lit up from a call from an unfamiliar number. I had an inkling who it was, but I took the call anyway."What do you want, Simone?" I asked. He was momentarily taken aback. His voice sounded cold and restrained when he spoke again. "Are you done throwing a tantrum, Zoe? Do you really think moving out and resigning will stop me from marrying Jasmina?"I told you already, I'm only helping her out with this marriage. Why are you making such a big fuss out of nothing? Come back quickly. Firing you was just a joke. Once her parents give in, I'll marry you again."It was as if I'd just heard the funniest joke in the world. "Did you not check Facebook, Simone? We've already broken up. Who you marry is your business, and I don't care. And you want to marry me again?"I scoffed before

Chapter 8

That day, Rosario told me a lot of things. For example, he told me how he once saw me stand up to my famiglia—ripping the priceless emerald necklace from my neck in fury and walking away without looking back.I had abandoned my noble status and left without looking back.Rosario had been standing at the doorway then, his heart pounding wildly.Even someone like him could only submit to fate. Yet a girl who looked so fragile had dared to fight back. He was utterly astounded. We were both people who longed for freedom. But unlike me, Rosario didn't choose to run away.Instead, he chose to climb relentlessly until he reached the very top, where no one could interfere with his choices ever again. After hearing all that, I laughed softly. "So, after you made it to the top, you turned around and threatened my papa into arranging this marriage?"Rosario hung his head low. After a while, he quietly said, "I'm sorry. I just wanted to see you again."Looking at the aggrieved look on his

Chapter 9

I knew Simone would come looking for me, but I wasn't expecting it to be this soon.He looked haggard standing outside the door, nothing like the man I left behind."Zoe, you left me just to marry him? Someone who's more wealthy and powerful?" Simone asked.I scoffed. Staring coldly at the furious man before me, I said, "When it comes to power, I alone outweigh you and that cheap woman put together, Simone."Simone's eyes widened in disbelief. "That's impossible! You're just an ordinary woman! You'd never have lived the kind of life you had without me."My gaze was filled with disgust. Only after leaving him did I realize that not only was he unfaithful, but his character was rotten to the core.I couldn't be bothered to waste my time on Simone. I signalled the guards to escort him out.He looked at the ten guards advancing toward him and shouted, "What are you doing? I'm the CEO of Pozzi Corp!""CEO?" The guards looked at each other before they burst out laughing. "You're just

Chapter 10

Both men fought so viciously that even the guards didn't know how to step in.It wasn't until I rushed forward and took Simone's punch that they finally stopped. He stammered, "Zoe! I'm sorry… I didn't mean to…"I forced myself to ignore the pain ripping through my back and ignored Simone.Instead, I walked over to Rosario, took out a silk handkerchief, and gently wiped the corner of his mouth."We're about to get married. You can't afford to get disfigured. And this cut here… Will it hurt when we kiss tonight?" I asked.Simone stared at the scene before him in disbelief, looking as if something inside him was about to shatter. He broke down in the next minute.Rosario placed a hand on the back of my head and kissed me in front of everyone."No! Who gave you permission to touch her! Let her go! Let her go!" Simone screamed as he was restrained tightly by the guards. The prideful man was now sobbing uncontrollably, like a child watching his favourite toy being taken away.Afte
