Chapter 1

The butt of a rifle slammed hard into my lower back, sending me sprawling face-first into the mud.“Run! Why aren’t you running now?”A tall werewolf stomped on my back. His name was Butcher, the overseer of this mining camp.He had once been a Gamma of Embermoon Pack, but after secretly selling the pack’s core intelligence, he had been exiled by my Alpha father. He had hated my father ever since, and now that I had fallen into his hands, the consequences were obvious. My carefully planned escape had failed, and he dragged me back through a torn hole in the barbed-wire fence with his own hands.“Bring the others over here!” Butcher roared. Two other werewolves who had tried to escape were shoved forward by armed werewolf guards and forced to kneel beside me. They were shaking uncontrollably, gun barrels trained on their heads.Butcher reached for his waist and pulled out a rusted machete. He weighed it in his hand, the metal dull and stained. Then, he walked up to one of the kne

I was thrown into a water cell, where a ring of silver bars surrounded the pit. The filthy water was ice-cold, rising all the way to my chest, with rats and snakes slithering and swimming around me.Butcher stood at the edge of the pit, a sack of coarse salt in his hand.“Take this time to reflect, little princess,” he said with a vicious grin. Then, he dumped the entire bag into the water. When the brine touched the whip wounds on my back, pain exploded through my body. I bit down hard until my lip split, forcing myself not to scream. I knew my suffering would only excite him more. After Butcher finally left, I began thinking about how to save myself. I carefully reached out and touched one of the bars. The moment my palm made contact, it felt as if my flesh were burning. Cold sweat soaked my body, but I didn’t dare make a sound.Using my feet, I slowly felt around beneath the water. Suddenly, my toes brushed against something solid. I picked it up and saw that it was a rusted p

Chapter 3

Three days later, Amina deliberately set the kitchen on fire while cooking. The flames spread fast, and chaos erupted across the mining camp. Most of the werewolf guards were drawn away by the blaze.Grabbing my chance, I slipped through the shadows and crept beneath the window of Butcher’s office. Voices drifted out from inside. Butcher was on a call, and he had it on speaker.“Your sister sure is something,” Butcher said. “After everything she’s been through, she’s still alive.”My heart shot straight into my throat.A cold laugh came from the other end of the line.“Die? No. She can’t die that easily. My Alpha father and that she-wolf mother of mine are still drowning in the pain of losing their beloved daughter. Before I fully take control of Embermoon Pack, she can’t die.“Watch her closely on your end. She’s smart. Don’t let her escape, and don’t make things too easy for her. Take more photos and send them to me. Watching her suffer helps me vent.”The moment I heard that

Chapter 4

I was dragged back to the mining camp like a dead dog. Right in front of me, Butcher hauled Amina into the center of the square.“This,” he said, “is the price of betraying me.”He ripped Amina’s clothes apart and shouted to the werewolf guards behind him, “She’s yours.”I could only watch as those beasts swarmed around her.Amina’s desperate screams and their obscene laughter tore into my ears. I thrashed wildly, a beastlike roar ripping from my throat. I tried again and again to call out to the wolf inside me, but there was no response. All I could do was watch as the only person who had ever shown me warmth in this hell was tortured to death before my eyes.Bloody tears slid down my face as hatred ignited inside me, burning away what little sanity I had left. However, Butcher still wasn’t satisfied. He walked up to me, crouched down, and pinched my chin between his fingers.“Keeping you here is a waste,” he said with a grin. “I hear the Wakha Pack deep in the jungle loves tend

Chapter 5

The male werewolf turned around and shouted toward the female werewolf who had collapsed nearby.“Mona! We’ve found her! She really is our daughter!”My father and mother froze where they stood.“Sir, are you sure you haven’t mistaken her for someone else?” my father asked warily. The male werewolf turned back to face them, his gaze instantly sharpening. He carried the crushing presence of a powerful Alpha, unique to one who stood at the very top.“I am Drake Nocturne.”The moment the name dropped, the cane slipped from my father’s hand and hit the ground with a loud clang.Drake Nocturne was the Alpha of Shadowbite Pack, the strongest pack on the werewolf continent. The man controlled more than half of the continent’s mineral resources. He was also the legendary Alpha known for ruthless decisiveness and wealth beyond measure.“Twenty years ago, my daughter was taken from me.” Drake looked at me, his eyes shimmering with tears as he said, “I searched for her for twenty years, t

Chapter 6

News of my survival was kept a secret. Drake erased every trace of that night, as if it had never happened. Butcher “disappeared,” and the illegal mining camp was wiped off the map overnight, reduced to rubble.I was taken to recover at the Moon Goddess Chapel of Shadowbite Pack. Lucius and Hale stayed there as well, at least for the time being. Although Drake held resentment toward them, since I still called them Father and Mother, he gave them the best treatment possible.Half a month later, my injuries had mostly healed. That day, Drake placed a folder in front of me.“This is Embermoon Pack’s current situation.” He paused, then continued calmly, “Gariel has announced to the outside world that Lucius and his wife couldn’t withstand the blow of your death. They had both since fallen ill and are no longer capable of managing pack affairs. As the heir, he has taken control of Embermoon Pack.“He’s also sent out invitations. Tomorrow, he’s hosting a banquet to formally announce his

Instead, a video appeared. In the footage, Butcher sat in the interrogation chair, his face bruised and swollen.“It was Gariel. Gariel paid me five hundred thousand dollars to sell his sister to an illegal mining camp,” he admitted. “He said to torture her slowly, so she wished she were dead. He said he wanted her to watch, with her own eyes, how he would gain control of Embermoon Pack.”Then, the screen switched to the bank transfer records, each one clear and undeniable. Screenshots of messages between Gariel and Butcher followed. The banquet hall fell silent. Everyone’s eyes flicked back and forth between the screen and Gariel, who knelt on the floor.“This is fake! It’s all fake!” Gariel panicked, thrashing like a man possessed. “It’s slander! It’s a setup! Veya, why are you doing this? Is it just because I took back what’s rightfully mine?”“Rightfully yours?” I sneered. “What of Embermoon Pack belongs to you?”“I am my father’s firstborn! You’re nothing but an adopted chil

After Gariel was taken away, Lucius fainted and collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital and admitted directly to the ICU.Outside the room, Hale stayed by the door, crying until it seemed like her very breath would break. Overnight, she looked twenty years older.Drake and Mona stayed by my side.Mona took off her coat and draped it over me, assuring me, “Veya, don’t be afraid. Your father has called in the best cardiothoracic surgeon.” I nodded but didn’t speak.…A few days later, news came from Beta Raine of Shadowbite Pack. While investigating the flow of Gariel’s funds, they discovered that over the years, he had been transferring large sums of money to a single account. The account belonged to his biological mother, Layla. However, upon receiving the money, Layla immediately lost it all in the casino. When Raine found her, she had been caught cheating, beaten, and thrown into a back alley with a broken leg. She had no idea Gariel had gotten into trouble. In fact, she was

Once Lucius’s condition had stabilized, he was moved to a regular hospital room. However, his spirit had collapsed. He spent every hour every day in silence, staring blankly at the ceiling. The doctors said it would take time to heal from the traumatic event he had suffered. Then, an unexpected visitor appeared—Layla. She was pushed down the hospital corridor in a wheelchair, her legs in casts and her face heavily made up. However, it could not hide how cynical and bitter she was.“Where’s Lucius? Tell him to see me now!” she demanded the moment she spoke.Hale happened to be carrying a bowl of soup out of the room, and the sight of her made his face turn instantly pale.“What are you doing here?” she asked.“What am I doing here?” Layla sneered. “I came to see my son’s father. Is that not allowed? Hale, you little homewrecker, who are you to question me?”“That’s not true!” Hale trembled with rage.“No? If it weren’t for you, would Lucius have divorced me? Would my son have gro

Chapter 10

When I thought it was finally over, Drake told me that the last “gift” for Gariel was only just beginning.A week later, Drake called me with news that Gariel had gone mad. I rushed to the mental hospital. Through the thick glass of the observation room, I saw him. He was wearing a blue-and-white striped hospital gown, curled up in the corner of the room. A pillow was clutched tightly in his arms, and he muttered to himself, “Mom… don’t go. I’ll avenge you… I’ll kill them all… The money, I have so much money…”His eyes were empty and unfocused, trapped entirely in his own world.I asked the doctor how he had become like that. The doctor explained that a week ago, under the pretense of “humanitarian aid,” a special “meeting” had been arranged. Gariel had been seated in a one-way observation room, while on the other side of the glass was his mother, Layla. Layla, however, had no idea that Gariel was watching her. She thought she was speaking to a lawyer sent by Drake, and to reduc
