บททั้งหมดของ Love Made Its Case: บทที่ 1 - บทที่ 9

Evelyn passed on some big cases just to look after the injured Marvin. The scratch healed up in no time at all. With a backlog of ongoing cases, Evelyn had no choice but to return to the firm to handle work.Marvin strolled into her office like he owned the place, ready to show off to everyone. However, what really shocked everyone was when Evelyn started introducing Marvin to them. There was a sour taste in my mouth as I remembered how Evelyn used to make me sneak in through the back door whenever I brought her fresh clothes during late work nights. She said it was to keep her personal life separate from work, but I knew she was just ashamed of me.In her office, Marvin leaned over to look through Evelyn’s case files. If I had done that, Evelyn would have given me an earful."Find this case interesting? You specialize in finance—help me take a look at it," she said.I just stood there, wide-eyed, as Evelyn let this guy, who had nothing to do with her work, see confidential fil

Tears shimmered in Evelyn's eyes. "Marvin, as long as you're okay, I can handle a little trouble.""Colton's mom was talking about suing. What if…""Don't worry about it. The courtroom is my territory. She can try to sue all she wants, but it won't make a difference!"Evelyn stood tall, her eyes shining with a look that said she was ready to win. Most people might just be bragging if they talked like that, but Evelyn really could back it up, and I could not help but worry about Mom.The two returned to the office and acted like they had been through a lot together. They were even more lovey-dovey by the desk. They were like two peas in a pod. Evelyn did not hold back at all and gave some case files to Marvin to work on, while she got ready to fight against Mom.I never imagined I would end up being one of my wife's cases, and we were on opposing sides, no less.I was the only one who saw Marvin sneakily snap photos of some documents with his phone when Evelyn was not looking.

When Evelyn woke up again, she was in her own room."No!" She jolted awake from a bad dream."Bad dream? It's okay. I'm here." Marvin rolled over, wrapped his arms around her, and gently patted her back.Evelyn's tears fell freely, her eyes wide with fear."Marvin, I can't believe Colton's gone. How did this happen?""I'm just as lost as you are. He hasn't reached out to us for days. Maybe he got into some trouble again. Remember how he used to get into fights back in high school? He even got into one with me." Marvin always had a way of making things sound worse than they were. He was like a sneaky wolf pretending to be a harmless sheep."Since Colton has passed away, maybe we should visit his mom in the hospital. She just lost her son, and I feel bad about making a scene at his funeral."However, there was no need to bother. Mom was in the hospital because of how upset they had made her. Could they not just leave her in peace?Marvin gently touched Evelyn's face and nodded,

When Evelyn saw Marvin again, he was in handcuffs and covered in mud, like he had been running from the cops for ages."You made a fake recording of my voice and tricked Colton. Why would you do that? You didn't have to hurt him. I would've left him for you anyway."Marvin looked up at Evelyn, but the love that had once sparkled in his eyes was gone, replaced by a heavy dose of mockery. "Evelyn, are you still the same naive and sweet girl from high school? Do you really think I came back for you? You're not that important to me."I've told the police everything. However, since you've been running around for my case, I guess I owe you the truth."It turned out Marvin had vanished after graduation because he got caught using company funds for personal use and ended up in jail for two years. He had just gotten out of jail when someone offered him a deal. If he could snag the defense papers for a big case, they would pay him 450,000 dollars. Marvin did not think he could pull it off a
