Chapter 1

"Harper's pathetic. Nine years and she couldn't even make Chief Alchemist.""Please. Chloe's high-born. She got 'Serenity' to market in two months. That's real talent.""Figures. An Omega alchemist was always a joke."I stood just around the corner, their familiar voices like poison in my ear.The main hall of Silverclaw Tower was packed. They were all buzzing about today's ceremony.Chloe was about to become Chief Alchemist. She was getting everything that should have been mine."I always said Harper was just a front," said Elena, the woman I once called sister. "Someone with real skill wouldn't need nine years."A small vial of pale green liquid hung from her belt. The "Soul-Heal" potion I’d made for her three months ago. She'd been attacked by rogues. Her inner wolf was dying.I stayed up for seventy-two hours straight, testing hundreds of herbs to save her life. Now she was standing there, laughing at me with the others."Bloodline is everything," Elena continued. "Chloe's father w

I stared at my life's work, scattered across the lab bench. My heart didn't just ache. It shattered. The click of high heels echoed behind me."Harper."Chloe pushed the door open. She'd changed out of her ceremony dress and into a white lab coat, trying to look professional."This position... it should have been yours," she said softly, her voice dripping with fake guilt.I didn't stop, just kept packing my glass beakers."I may be high-born, but I only finished the potion thanks to your foundation," Chloe said, stepping closer. "If you're upset, I can ask Liam to compensate you."I finally stopped.I turned and looked at her perfect, lying face. And I laughed."If you had an ounce of shame, you would renounce the title and the money," I said, my voice dangerously low. "Then you would get on your knees and apologize to me in front of the entire pack."The sweet smile on Chloe's face froze."What did you say?""I said, give me back what's mine." I took a step toward her. "Then get out

Liam’s hand closed around my throat, lifting me off the ground. His strength was terrifying.I felt his fingers tighten, cutting off my air."She tried to kill me!" Chloe screamed from the floor. "She's a traitor!"I struggled to breathe. My lungs burned. My legs kicked uselessly in the air."I should have killed you long ago," Liam's eyes were pure red, his pupils slitted. "You filthy Omega. Daring to harm my Chief Alchemist."Black spots danced in my vision. My head went light. But I had to speak."Kill..." I forced the word out, my throat raw. "...me...""What?" Liam lifted me higher."Who'll make... your potion?"The words hit him like a lightning bolt.Liam froze for a second. A flicker of reason fought through the rage.I was right. He needed the potion. He'd been injecting "Serenity" every single night since I first made it, just to stay sane.Who else could brew it for him?But it was just a second."I don't need you!" he roared, slamming me to the ground. "Chloe is better than

For days, I took my last few vials of diluted "Serenity" to the black market."Get lost, Rogue," the first vendor said, waving me away. "We don't do business with traitors.""It's life-saving medicine," I said, putting a vial on his table. "Only fifty dollars.""Fifty?" He scoffed. "Authentic Silverclaw potions go for five grand a vial. This is either a cheap knock-off...""...Or it's poison." He stood up, baring his fangs. "I've heard the rumors, Harper. You tried to poison the real alchemist."I picked up my vial and moved to the next stall. It was the same story everywhere."Poisoner! Get out!""We don't want your poison!""Leave now or we'll make you!"Not a single person on the entire street would buy from me.Liam's lies spread faster than a plague.I dragged my empty bag back to our rundown apartment.Marcus was on the bed, looking worse than before. His fever was back. His breathing was shallow."Did you sell any?" he asked, his voice weak."No," I said, sitting beside him. "I'

A loud crash came through the phone, like someone had flipped a desk."Fifty million? Are you insane?" Liam's voice was cracking."That's my price for saving your life," I said, my voice flat. "But I doubt you can afford it. Your pack is dead meat without me.""Harper! You can't do this to me!" Liam's voice trembled. "We were partners! Think of the pack! The pack needs you!"Partners. Now he remembers we were partners."Think of your pack!" he kept going, trying to guilt me. "You can't just stand by and watch our people suffer! This is treason against our entire species!""Partners don't get exiled, Liam," I cut him off. "And a species doesn't cast out the one person who saved it.""You're just an Omega!" He completely lost it. "I gave you a job! A place to live! I let a low-life like you have a good life! You should be grateful!""Grateful?" I laughed. "Grateful that you stole my life's work and gave it to your little pet?"On the other end, Chloe’s shriek was getting louder. "I didn'

3 a.m. The chaos was my cover. I bypassed the lax security and made my way to Liam's office.Through a crack in the blinds, I saw what was happening inside.Liam was sitting behind his desk, his face as white as a sheet. His hands were trembling, and cold sweat beaded on his forehead. The Rage Curse was gnawing at his sanity.Chloe was curled up on the sofa. The wound on her face was bandaged, but her eyes were filled with terror."How are the warriors?" Liam asked."Bad," a subordinate reported. "Twelve have completely lost control. We had to use tranq guns. Another six are in the med-bay with high fevers.""Damn it!" Liam slammed his fist on the desk."Alpha, should we contact Harper?" the subordinate suggested carefully. "Maybe she really has a solution—""No!" Liam roared. "I will never bow to that traitor!"He stood up and paced the room. With every step, his breathing grew heavier."It has to be Harper. She poisoned the batch," he growled. "She planned this all along!""But Alpha

Three days later, the National Werewolf Summit was even grander than I had imagined. The top-floor ballroom was filled with Alpha leaders from every state, along with countless reporters.I stood on the rooftop of the building across the street, watching the event through a pair of binoculars. The media had already crowned Chloe the savior of all wolfkind."Silverclaw's Chief Alchemist, Miss Chloe, will be demonstrating the latest version of the 'Serenity' potion tonight.""This high-born genius perfected a solution to the Rage Curse in just two months, a problem that has plagued our kind for decades.""In comparison, the traitor Harper made no real progress in nine years. It just proves that bloodline is everything."On the TV screen, Chloe was wearing a pure white evening gown, gracefully giving an interview."I only did what I had to do," she said with a humble smile. "For the future of our kind, any sacrifice is worth it."Reporters were snapping pictures frantically. The flashbulb

"This is Harper." My voice filled the ballroom. "The one you call a traitor."The chaos below continued.A giant black wolf pounced on a waiter, and blood sprayed into the air.Champagne glasses shattered, mixing gold liquid with red on the floor."Now for the truth," my voice rang out. "Chloe's 'improved' potion didn't suppress their rage. It amplified it."The live broadcast was still running. Werewolves all across the country were watching the bloodbath. The live chat was exploding:"What is going on?""Why are the Alphas losing control?""Harper? Isn't she the traitor?"In the ballroom, three more wolves fully transformed. The lavish summit had devolved into a primal bloodbath."No! This isn't right!" Chloe was hiding behind the stage, her voice shaking. "There's nothing wrong with my formula! It must be something Harper did!"But no one was listening to her.Everyone was running for their lives.Liam was on his knees on the stage, clutching his head and screaming in agony. His sui

The wolf's claws were about to fall.I raised my sprayer and aimed it at the last beast. The red mist hit its mark. The wolf instantly collapsed, shifting back into a middle-aged man.Chloe was saved. She stared at me, her eyes filled with disbelief."Why..." she stammered. "Why did you save me?""Because I'm not you," I said, holstering the sprayer. "I don't watch my people burn."The room was silent. The Omega they had called a "traitor" had just saved every single life in the room.Including the ones who had set her up."Everyone," I said, turning to the cameras. "Now you know the truth.""I did not betray our species. I did not poison anyone. And I am not a spy." My voice carried through the hall. "I am just an alchemist who was cast aside because of my bloodline."The live chat was a torrent:"Harper is a hero!""We were so wrong about her!""The Silverclaw pack owes her an apology!""Bloodline theory is poison!"Just then, a group of people in black uniforms stormed into the ball

One month later. In the shabby apartment in the slums, Marcus sat in front of the TV, watching the evening news."The Silverclaw pack has officially declared bankruptcy. Former Alpha Liam has been sentenced to life in prison for fabricating evidence and endangering the species."The news showed Liam in a prison jumpsuit, being escorted into the Silent Prison, a facility for feral Alphas.Without "Serenity," his rage symptoms had grown worse. He was now a walking corpse, kept docile with massive doses of tranquilizers."Former Chief Alchemist Chloe has been sentenced to ten years for fraud. Due to prolonged exposure to untreated toxins, she has permanently lost her sense of smell and suffered irreversible facial scarring."The camera cut to the courtroom.Chloe sat in the defendant's box. Her once-beautiful face was now ruined by chemical burns. Her nose had collapsed, and a large patch of red scars covered her left cheek. That was the price for pretending to be an alchemist.Marcus smi
