Elder Mira lowered herself slowly into the chair beside the fireplace. As though she was reaching back through centuries of stories she had hoped would remain nothing more than legends."Like I said before, the oldest records," she began quietly, "describe only two confirmed sons born to witches."The fire crackled softly. My mother sat beside me, still clutching the half-empty cup of water, and neither of us interrupted.Elder Mira folded her weathered hands together."The stories begin the same way."Her voice settled into the rhythm of an old tale."One unbearably hot afternoon, two witches went into labor. They were sisters of the same coven. Both carried children conceived with human men. When the births were over..." She paused. "...both babies were boys."My mother lowered her cup."In all the centuries before that day, the covens had never recorded the birth of a son to a witch. The Queen of Witches herself came to witness the children. She did not know whether to celebrate...

My mother's silence was louder than any answer she could have given. She stood frozen, tears streaming down her face. Around us, more women from the pack hurried toward her, wrapping their arms around her shoulders, whispering words I couldn't make out, but none of them looked at me or answered me.My chest tightened. "No..."I backed away."No."I turned and ran as fast as my battered body would allow. Every bruise screamed in protest for me to stop, and every breath burned, but I kept running straight toward Elder Mira's cottage, and when I got there, I slammed the front door open so hard it bounced against the wall.Everyone inside looked up, but I ignored all of them."Lucas!" I staggered toward his bed. "You tell me right now. Where's my father?"One of the warriors stepped in front of me. "The Beta needs rest.""I don't care!""You need to leave.""I said I don't care!" I shoved past him, but another wolf grabbed my shoulder."Ethan.""Move!""You can't—""I said move!" Someone

I rubbed the back of my neck. "Are you going to keep ignoring me?""I don't know," he muttered."Derek."He sighed through his nose before finally looking at me. "What?""Well, if you're going to ignore me, you can as well answer this question before you continue," I started. "Have you eaten?"His expression softened just a little. "No.""When was the last time?""I don't remember."I frowned. "You don't remember?""I ate before everything happened yesterday."My eyes widened."So you've gone the whole night without eating?"He shrugged. "I wasn't exactly in a position to ask for breakfast."I almost smiled despite everything. "You could've told me.""I had other things on my mind."I looked him over. His shirt was stained with dried blood and dirt. The sleeves had been torn during the beating, and the fabric around his shoulder was stiff where blood had soaked through before Elder Mira treated his wound. He caught me staring. "What?""I'm sorry, but I'm just noticing the smell, and y

His cock tasted so good, even more different with him hurt, but still, I had to be so careful and gentle. And that was different from the rough play and aggressive fucks we indulged in before we were beaten.I missed the warmth I felt whenever I was inside him, and also weirdly missed how good he felt when he was inside me. I missed being filled by him so much more than I ever imagined I could.Yeah, I love fucking him, and I could probably have done that, but right now, I want him deep inside me. I wanted his hands on my ass, making it burn and then taking the pain away along with all my doubt and fear. I wanted the release only my sweet, sweet Derek could give me.Just thinking about it made the heat wash over me until I felt like I would implode, but then I moaned around his cock as I sucked it slow and long. He caught his breath and grabbed hard at my hair. I slid back from his cock and slowly swirled my tongue over his balls and down to the sweet little spot under them.He bucked

The days that followed after was like a dream to me. I remembered waking before sunrise because Elder Mira insisted the quiet hours were when wolves spoke the loudest. I remembered sitting cross-legged in the clearing behind her cottage with my eyes closed while she burned herbs around me and whispered prayers older than the pack itself.I remembered trying.Gods, I tried.Every morning, every afternoon, and every night."Reach for it, Ethan. You have to reach for it," she'd tell me."I am.""No, you're doing something else. You have to reach deeper.""I don't know how.""You do.""I don't."She refused to believe me.Elder Mira was convinced Derek had somehow taken my wolf, but she never said it around Derek anymore, though I caught the way she'd look at him whenever she thought neither of us noticed, like he was both a miracle and a mystery. She performed every ritual she knew; she painted symbols across my arms using crushed berries and ash. She had me drink bitter concoctions that
