Rhaena's POVWhen they finally pooled at my feet, I stepped out of them, now completely naked except for my flats."Keep the shoes on," he said, his voice rough with desire. "I like you in heels but these work too. I like you however I can get you."Then his hands slid back up my legs, over my thighs, spreading them apart gently but firmly. He lifted my right leg and hooked it over his shoulder, opening me up to him completely, leaving me balanced on my left foot with my back against the door. The position left me exposed and vulnerable and completely at his mercy. I had to brace my hands against the door to keep my balance."So beautiful," he murmured, his breath hot against my inner thigh, making me shiver. "So perfect. And all mine. Say you're mine, Rhaena.""I'm yours," I whispered, because it was true, because I couldn't deny it even if I wanted to."Again," he demanded, his mouth moving closer to where I needed him most."I'm yours, Alessio," I said, louder this time, more certa

Rhaena's POVI hoisted myself onto one of the bar stools and watched as he moved around the kitchen with easy, confident competence. He plated the pasta with practiced efficiency, twirling it into perfect nests on each plate. Adding the sauce - creamy with visible flecks of pepper and crispy pancetta. Drizzling it artfully. Sprinkling fresh parmesan over the top. Adding a sprig of fresh basil as garnish. He could have worked in a restaurant. It looked professional, magazine-worthy.He set a plate in front of me with a flourish, then moved to the wine fridge and pulled out a bottle of white wine - something Italian and expensive-looking.He poured us each a generous glass, then took the seat next to me rather than across from me, angling his bar stool so he was facing me rather than facing forward.Close. Intimate. Like he wanted to be able to see my face, read my expressions, gauge my reactions to everything he was about to say.For a moment, we just looked at each other. The air betw

Rhaena's POVThe sound cut through the quiet apartment like an alarm, sharp and jarring and completely unwelcome. He pulled back from the kiss with a low sound of frustration but didn't reach for the phone, just pressed his forehead against mine, eyes closed, waiting for it to stop.It stopped. Then immediately started again."It might be important," I said softly. He groaned - that full-body groan of a man being pulled away from something he'd rather be doing - and pressed one more quick, firm kiss to my lips before reluctantly reaching for his phone on the counter. He glanced at the screen, and something flickered across his face. Not guilt exactly. More like resigned irritation."It's Dove," he said, his eyes meeting mine carefully, watching for my reaction.Something cold settled in my stomach, but I kept my expression neutral. Nodded once.He hesitated for just a fraction of a second, like he was considering ignoring it, before answering and putting it on speaker."Hey," he said,

Rhaena's POV"I got out of a relationship not too long ago," I said, keeping my voice light, unbothered, like the question held no particular significance. "We were together for a couple of years and then it just... ran its course. It was the right decision but still took some adjusting." I paused, turning my wine glass slowly in my fingers. "So right now I'm taking some time to get back to myself. Figure out what I want. What makes me happy."Dove nodded, something in her expression softening with what seemed like genuine understanding. "I respect that," she said. "Knowing when to take that time for yourself. A lot of people rush straight from one relationship into the next without giving themselves space to breathe.""Exactly," I agreed, and it wasn't even entirely a performance - I had been doing exactly that, in my own way. Getting out of something with Jake that had long since stopped working. Taking time to breathe.I'd just been doing most of that breathing in Tuscany, thoroughl

Rhaena's POVI showered, letting the hot water work the tension out of my shoulders, letting my mind go quiet after hours of performing composure I hadn't fully felt. Afterward, in an old soft t-shirt and sleep shorts, I climbed into bed and reached for my phone. It buzzed in my hand before I'd even unlocked it.Alessio: I'll be dreaming of you, spitfire.Seven words. Simple. They still managed to undo something in me.Me: Goodnight, Alessio.I set the phone down, turned off the lamp, and let his voice - low, commanding, tender, all the versions of it I'd heard that day - loop quietly through my mind until I drifted off.The next morning I got ready on autopilot, settled on a simple grey dress, and told myself firmly that today would be normal. Professional. A day where I actually got work done.It mostly was. I didn't see Alessio at all for the first half of the day - we were both buried in separate meetings, mine with finance reviewing projections that had gotten pushed while we wer
