CHAPTER ELEVEN

AMARA'S POV****I woke up quite early even though I was unable to sleep. I kept thinking about the incident at the restaurant and going to see his family today.I couldn't figure out what to wear, I was conscious of how I should look. I finally chose a pink backless dress with straps around my neck and a black sandals. I tied my hair in a messy bun. Then a light make-up.I heard the horn of a car. Then my phone buzzed.I'm in front of your door. Take your time. That's a first. He's usually late. I quickly put on lipgloss, grabbed my bag and headed to the door. I stood at the door for a good five minutes. My heart kept beating fast. “It's just Dorian. He doesn't care about how you look. Just breathe.” I assured myself. Then I opened the door.He was leaning against his car. On call.He looked good. He wore a black shirt which he didn't thoroughly buttoned. Leaving his toned chest peaking through. Blue jeans. His hair was slightly ruffled. He looked hot.I walked closer, trying not to f

Chapter 12

AMARA'S POV****His eyes moved over me. He poured more sunscreen into his palms and spread it across my stomach. I was breathing hard, my heart beat increased. He worked the cream in, thumbs circling lazily, drifting higher, just beneath my breasts. I tightened my grip on the chair. He knew exactly where not to touch and that made it worse. He moved to my neck, fingers kneading, then lower. Back to my cleavage. He stayed there, hands hovering. I tried to keep my eyes open. Then he moved away to my legs. I swallowed hard.Is this man always this controlled? I whined in my head.He rubbed thighs.“Spread your legs.”I hadn't realized I had pressed them together. So I did as he said.More sunscreen. His hands slipped along my inner thigh, up then back down. Not where I wanted them to be. I squirmed.“Don't move.”I stayed still. I bit my lip hard, refusing to make a sound. I didn't care what he'd think of me. Not now.He lifted my legs higher.“What are… you… do…doing?” I tried to formse

Chapter 13

AMARA'S POV*****“Where is she now?” I said. “I'm on my way.”“Ma'am.”“Please calm down. You don't need to come tonight. She's stable,” she assured me.“She's resting. She needs the rest. I’m monitoring her closely.”My cheek was wet. I didn't realize I was crying.“Please watch her. I'll be there tomorrow. Please,” I sobbed.“It's fine. She's okay. Try to rest.”“Thank you.” I ended the call. Here I was, laughing , sunbathing, pretending life was soft, while my mother lay in a hospital bed. I'd forgotten how fragile everything was. How easily this world reminded me where I belonged. This isn't my life. Dorian touching me like that… then acting like it meant nothing. Like I was nothing. The tears came freely now. I didn't fight them. I was also tired of being strong. So tired of holding everything together. I couldn't lose my mom. I couldn't.I curled into myself on the bed, pressing a cloth to my mouth, swallowing the sounds that wanted to escape.Even at this moment, I couldn't hel

Chapter 14

AMARA'S POV****“Mom,” I entered her room but she wasn't there anymore. I quickly ran to the reception to ask for my mom.“Hi,” I said to the nurse.“My mom… room 291. She's not there. Where is she.” I feared the worst might have happened.“One minute,” The nurse said. “Mrs Anna Harpers?”“Yeah.”“She was moved to the VIP medical suite.”“Why? I can't afford that. I know she had a cardiac episode but trust me she's doing fine in her usual room. I'm struggling—“It's already been paid for. We were ordered to move her there.”“Who gave the order?”“It was an anonymous call. They didn't leave any number behind nor any form of identification.”“Oh,” I murmured. “Where is the suite.”“Take the elevator to the 11th floor. Room 10.”I nodded. “Thank you.”I kept thinking of who the person could be. I was certain it's not Davina. No one knew about my situation except her. I should thank the person but there was no way. I finally got to the floor. It looked expensive and extremely quiet. I fo

Chapter 15

AMARA'S POV****I went to a nearby restaurant to eat. I couldn't stop thinking about Dorian. The happiness I felt… he didn't regret it. The thought that I wouldn't see him for a week made my heart ache. He's probably on his way to Paris now. I miss him.My phone buzzed. I hoped it would be a text from Dorian. But—Hi, Gorgeous. It's been a while. What's up?Jack.I smiled, but it felt wrong. No. Just because Dorian and I had a nice time didn't mean we were a thing. For all I knew, he wouldn't fall for a girl like me.Hello, Jack.I texted back. Jack is a good person.Hope you're having a good day. Want to meet for lunch? No. I'm quite busy. I won't be able to make it. I'm sorry. That's too bad. You just broke my heart. I'm trying to pick up the shattered pieces. He's funny. I smiled and sent a crying emoji.I think I'm having a good day. I like it.I thought about life, about little things. Ordered a coffee. Just stayed there, watching the world pass by.A few minutes later, a text fro

CHAPTER 16

AMARA'S POV****I got the job on a random day.I wasn't dressed fancy. Just jeans, a plain top, and sneakers that had seen better days. I walked into the café. The bell rang. Like it was announcing my arrival. The place was small, warm. It smelled like coffee and baked bread. It was comforting.I looked around, the place was packed. It was rush hour. People stood in a line. Then I saw a woman behind the counter. She looked up at me. Her hair was quite a mess. She looked tired, the dark circles under her eyes confirmed it.“Pleaes stand in the line ma'am,” she said. “It will get to your turn soon.”“Oh no. I am here for the Job,”She stared at me wearily.“It was listed online and a signboard outside the cafe said the same,” I continued.“Oh, pardon me,” she said. “Are you experienced?”“No. But I'm a fast learner.”She sighed and glanced at the line.“Can you start today?”“Today?” I repeated.“Yes. As you can see we're short staffed.”“Okay. I can…ummm start now.”“Good,” she said. “A

Chapter 17

DORIAN'S POV****I had to take some calls before coming to the beach. When I got there Isabel called me saying Amara needed help with the sunscreen. She handed it to me and left. Amara felt uncomfortable but I insisted on helping her.I didn't expect myself to get turned on. I paused at her ass but couldn't hold myself back so I massaged, I felt her stiffen beneath me but I continued. She turned abruptly, laying on her back. Which caught me off guard. I worried that I might have offended her. But the look in her eyes said otherwise, and the relief in face when she saw the look in my eyes turned me even more on. The things I wanted to do to her right there but it wasn't proper. She took my arms and placed it on her belly, I understood she wanted me to continue. So I applied more sunscreen and massaged. She bit her lip. I teased her breasts, wanting to push her to her limit, to test her restraint. I pushed her legs apart, her chest rose and fell. She asked what I intended to do but I wa

Chapter 18

DORIAN'S POV****My time in Paris wasn't great. I kept thinking of Amara, worrying about her. Wondering if she hated me now. It was a hard week with her. I wanted to call her, to text her but I wasn't sure if I should. So I didn't. I had to patiently go through all the meetings and head back to New York. The days and nights were longer and lonely. Finally the meeting ended. My flight was scheduled on Sunday but I decided to take my private jet instead. I needed to leave that Saturday.I arrived in New York. I texted Amara, told her I was back. I quickly headed home to get shower, then to the office to take care of some things. By the time I was done, it was midnight already. So I left for the club, to see Amara. I couldn't change into a better cloth. I was still in my suit. I took off the jacket and unbuttoned a few buttons. I was a bit hot.I stepped into the club, the loud music filled my ears. I didn't like noisy places but Amara has a way of making me do things I don't like.I ma

Chapter 19

AMARA'S POV****After the club closed, Davina told me that Dorian came to find me. But I didn't see him. I was hurt, he didn't wait for me.I couldn't reply to his text earlier because I was too shocked. The next morning, I took my phone out from the lamp stand to reply Dorian. I stared at my phone for solid 10 minutes before replying.Hey I texted. He replied almost immediately. How are you doing? - DorianI'm good. How was your trip? - meIt was good. - DorianHeard you came by the club, you didn't wait - meHad things to take care of- Dorian I didn't know what to say again.Alright. Bye- meI waited for a while for his reply but it didn't come.I prepared for work and headed to the cafe.“Morning,” I said to Rosa as I tied my apron.“Morning,”Before I could ask anything, a man in a suit cleared his throat loudly at the counter.“I've been standing here,” he said.“Yes– sorry,” I said quickly. “What can I get you?”“Latte. Extra hot.”I nodded. “One latte. Extra hot.”I turned t

Chapter 20

AMARA'S POV***I didn't get it. Who would want to fire me? As as I remembered I didn't offend anybody. Who could the owner be? I got frustrated. I didn't have the answer to any of the questions. I felt the tears threatening to wet my cheeks. I looked at the ceiling, willing the tears to go back. But it's didn't.I ran to the bathroom to cry. My rent, the hospital. How do I handle all that without a job. The café pay is barely enough to get anything done. I didn't have enough savings to live for a month. I wasn't even sure I had any savings at all. I cried out loud, hugging myself tightly, refusing to be strong this time. “Bang! Bang!”Someone was knocking on the door. I grabbed a tissue to wipe off my tears. I fixed my hair and opened up the door only to find Davina staring at me with tears in her eyes. Before I could speak, she wrapped me in her eyes. That undid me. I broke down. We bought sat on the bathroom floor crying.“So, what's next?” She asked, wiping her eyes.“I have no ide
