AMARA'S POV***It's Sunday morning. I woke up feeling energetic and happy. I didn't have a shift at the café today. So i will stay in and just rest.“Hello, mommyyy,” I sang.“How's my baby girl doing?” She asked.“Better. And you?”“If you're better, I am too.” She laughed.I thought to call her since I wouldn't be able to go to the hospital today. I have things to do today.“Mom, I wouldn't be make it to the hospital today. I'll be quite busy today.”“Awww, I miss my girl,” she cooed. “I was hoping to see you today.”“I know, mom. I'm sorry.”“It's fine. There's always a next time.” she said.“Alright. Bye. Love you,” I said and blew her a kiss through the phone. She did the same and I hung up.I thought about Dorian's offer, I have no reason to decline. It could be mean more pay. Besides, I wouldn't have to dance half naked in front of men again so all the more reason to take him up on his offer.Good morning I texted. He didn't reply. He's probably still sleeping. Then my phone ra

AMARA’S POVI stood outside the secretary’s office for a second longer than necessary. The door was slightly open. I knocked anyway.“Come in.”The woman inside didn’t look up immediately. She was typing fast, like whatever she was doing mattered more than whoever was standing in front of her.“Yes?” she asked.“I— Dorian sent me. He said I should come here.”She finally looked at me. Her eyes moved from my face to my shoes, then back up again.“You’re Amara.”It wasn’t a question.“Yes.”She nodded once. “Sit.”I sat.“I’m Clara,” she said, turning her screen slightly so I could see a schedule filled with blocks of colour. “I’m the senior secretary. I’ll be briefing you.”“Okay.”She slid a thin file across the desk. My name was already on it.“You’re his personal assistant,” she said. “Which means you work directly under him. You take calls he doesn’t want to take. You schedule meetings. You travel when he travels.”“Travel?” I asked.“Yes.”She said it like I’d asked if the sky was

DORIAN'S POV****I stood by the car in front of the airport waiting for Amara. She was late. My patience was thinning out, but not with her. I just didn't like waiting. Especially when I could see that frazzled look on her face the moment she finally jogged up.“Sorry! Traffic was insane,” she panted, tugging her bag over her shoulder. Hair sticking out in all directions. Her cheek was pink from running.“I hope we didn't miss the flight,” she said.“We're flying private.”We went to where the jet was waiting. I held the door open, letting her stumble in. Her eyes widened when she saw the private jet.“It's big,” she whispered.I let her take it in, standing a little behind her. “Welcome aboard,” I said. She glanced at me, then back at the cabin. We took our seats.I noticed the subtle tremor in her fingers, the way she kept taking shallow breaths. Flight sickness, probably the first time stepping into a life that wasn't just surviving.I slid into the seat next to her. “I'll sit here

DORAIN'S POV***They'd be here any minute. Amara was still in her room. I hadn't seen her since the afternoon. She'd be quiet at dinner earlier, present but distant.A knock came at the door. I opened it to three women with cases in their hands. I had booked them earlier for a make over for Amara. I wanted her to look gorgeous at the dinner. Better than all the other women who'd attend.“She's in the room across,” I said. “Take your time.”They nodded and moved past me. A few seconds later, Amara's door opened. She froze when she saw them. “Dorian?” She called.I walked over. “Relax, they're here for you.”“For me?” She asked. “All of them?”“Yes.”Her brows pulled together. “Why?”“Because I want you to look prettier, of course if you're comfortable with this, otherwise —”“No, it’s not that,” she said. “It's —”“Great. Then allow them to do their work. This is not the time to protest. We have a dinner to attend by 9:00pm.”That shut her up.The crew got to work immediately. They gui

AMARA'S POV***After last night I went straight into my bedroom, leaving him there. I thought he'd come after me but he didn't.I shouldn't have cried in front of him. I shouldn't have said half the things I said. What is wrong with me?Sleep didn't come easily. After tossing and turning for hours, I finally slept off. Until I felt someone shake me lightly, calling my name. I didn't open my eyes. I already knew it was Dorian. “Amara,” he whispered. “Amara.”I stayed still. Pretended to be asleep.“I know you can hear me. I'm leaving for a meeting. I won't be back anytime soon,” he said.I didn't answer. A moment later, he left.I don't understand this man. First, we had a fight, now he was acting like nothing happened and that pissed me off more. .I got up later, took a long shower, ate breakfast and decided to leave the hotel. I wasn't going to sit around all day thinking about him. I was going to explore the city alone.I tried different German delicacies, bought ice cream. I stop
