CadeonI start getting dressed in the clothes I've been provided and Lili shoots me a bewildered look as she heads toward the door."What are you doing?""If you think I'm going to sit by and wait to be saved, you're mistaken. I'm perfectly alright—I'll go with you."Her eyes bulge. She's still hyperventilating from our make-out session. "What? Cadeon, you can't possibly be serious. What? You're not well enough to go anywhere. You have to be resting.""I'm fine.""Cadeon—"I close the distance between us and the words die on her tongue. I take her chin between my fingers and kiss her softly. "I know you're worried about me, but I want you to know that this is going to give me even more strength to keep fighting. Sitting around and doing nothing while everyone else fights this war for me is driving me insane. The thought damn near killed me."Her eyes gleam with tears. "But it's not safe. What if you get hurt?""What if you get hurt?" I counter. "Do you think I'll rest easy, knowing yo

CadeonAfter dropping Lili off at the house, I make my way back to where we'll be camping for the night.I'm glad she and I came to an agreement—I can sense that she's on edge but I don't know why and it frustrates me. What am I missing? She's never been this temperamental before. That can only mean that deep down, something's upsetting her, something that maybe, she can't talk about. Is she resentful because I'm risking my life when I'm not healed fully?I'm fine, and after burying myself inside of her, I feel even better. I sensed that her mood changed a little afterward too, so could it be that it was something we both desperately needed to take the edge off?I don't know—I'm only relieved that she's safe right now. I couldn't stand the thought of her here, with us, where we could be attacked at any moment. When Timmon spots me, he asks, "Is Lilieth okay?""She's fine. She just needs to rest her wrist. What about that Gamma? Did he say something else?"Timmon shakes his head. "No.

Lilieth"Someone must have said something, there's no way around it!" Draven says angrily as he looks around her group. "Those outsiders wouldn't have known about that gate unless someone told them. We have a traitor in our midst!"Unfortunately, I have to agree with him. Nobody else could've known. I rest my head against Cadeon's arm, and he pulls me closer by tightening his hold on me.Everyone looks worn down.Today has been the longest day of my life. The Emberborn woman who's married to an Alpha clears her throat and says, "I'm sorry for bringing this up at a time like this, and I sincerely hope you won't think I'm being provocative by saying this, but you were looking for your daughter, Magda, weren't you? Has she been found?"I tense up because I automatically know what she's referring to. Corey is the one who answers her question. "No, not yet. I'm sure she has nothing to do with this.""How can you be so sure if she revealed the truth about the gate to the Omega-borns in the

CadeonIt's been three days since the unexpected attack, and we're practically back to normal, meaning the campaigns are still ongoing. This is my first time being at one of them, and honestly, I'm amazed by Lili's speech. She talks with passion and enthusiasm—like a true leader, the leader I always knew her as. Pride swells in my chest every time she utters a word. By the end, I'm bursting at the fucking seams because I can't believe I have her and she's mine.I don't blame Draven for hating me because of it. I'd hate myself too, if I messed up the one chance we had to be together because of self-doubt and prejudices that don't matter.I'm more optimistic about the whole thing because, for the first time since I got up from that bed, I finally understood just how many people are on our side. The attacks orchestrated by my father and his allies just haven't been working. They're suffering so many losses that it's ridiculous and selfish to keep fighting us. I always knew that Omegas ou

LiliethOh, Anice. What have you done? The sight of the entire village on fire wounds me, and it hurts more than any physical blow would. For a handful of moments, all I can do is watch people running up and down, trying to get away from the flames. My eyes are burning from all the smoke and heat—this is something I never thought I'd see. This magical place is burning to the ground. And my sister's responsible for it.The worst part isn't even the fire—Omega-borns are being attacked. I watch Cadeon fight off a few of them from a distance. How did he get there so quickly? How long have I been standing here? These questions come to a staggering halt when I see a Gamma rapidly approaching me. I spring into action, using the knife at my hip to slash him across the chest. I join the others, fighting my way across the field. Cadeon's eyes meet mine occasionally like he's making sure I'm alright.I'm doing fairly well, considering I haven't really had much practice fighting in the real world
