She wakes like a trap snapping shut. Not slowly. Not confused.Violently.Her body jerks upright with a gasp that rips out of her throat, heart slamming so hard the monitor screams in protest. Tubes pull. Skin tears. Pain flares but pain has never stopped her before.Hands grab at her.She screams.A raw, animal sound pure terror, stripped of language.“Get off don’t touch me !”She twists, wild, feral, yanking the IV free. Blood dots the sheets like scattered punctuation. Her legs swing over the side of the bed before anyone can stop her.“Easy!” someone shouts.Wrong word.Always the wrong word. She kicks hard catching my youngest brother in the ribs. He grunts, stumbles back. She’s already moving, barefoot on cold tile, slipping once but catching herself with brutal efficiency. The door.Always the door. She lunges for it.I move fast too fast but she sees it, anticipates, swerves. She grabs a metal tray off a nearby cart and hurls it without hesitation. It misses my head by inches
