Lahat ng Kabanata ng Stolen Night With My Brother In Law: Kabanata 1 - Kabanata 10

KATHRYN POVI am coming to your office with the divorce papers.I sent the message before I could stop myself, then turned my phone off and shoved it aside. My hands were already shaking. Is going to his office the right decision or was I walking straight into my own death?I picked up the documents and pressed my fingers into the edges until the paper bent beneath my grip.Would he lose control again? And if he did… how far would he go this time?Have you heard?” someone whispered near the printer.“Yeah, my cousin said he’s in town.” Another replied.I shouldn’t have listened, but curiosity still pulled me in anyway.“It is really crazy! One of the most influential men on the continent Iris mayers is back and he didn't come quietly"I froze. The papers slipped a little, like even they knew what that name meant to me. I suddenly felt this pain in my heart, far worse than whatever I had felt earlier.Iris Mayers? He’s actually back?People had been whispering about his return for week

KATHRYN POV“Under arrest? For what?” I asked, disbelief written boldly on my face as I stared at Ruby.“For physical assault against Mr Jacob Mayers" one of the police men answered casually.“You are really arresting me? Wow.” A small laugh slipped out.“Why are you shocked?” she replied, stepping closer. “Did you honestly think I would let you get away with nearly killing my son?”I moved toward her, shrinking the space between us. “Your son almost forced himself on me, again. Just like he has for years. And you knew about it. You stayed silent.”She scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Forced himself? Please. You are his wife. That is not possible.”I felt nothing but pure rage. The casual way she said it made me so disgusted. .“I will have him arrested. For everything he has done to me. I will make sure he rots,” I snapped. Her lips curled into a smile.“Go ahead. Try. With what money? With what connections?” she taunted. “Whatever you think you have, it is nothing compared to this

KATHRYN POV The image of her face popped into my mind fast; Her soft voice that said, "Mama," every morning was still fresh in my mind. My chest felt tight all of a sudden. I made myself look up and meet Jacobs' eyes. "You're bluffing," I said to him. "The court would never believe you, I went to therapy. I finished rehab. My records show I have been clean for years." I took a breath to calm down. "They would see right through what you're doing,” I said. Then he gave a cold smile, not a good one. "You still do not understand the family you married into do you?" he said softly. My stomach felt sick. "The court believes what it sees,” he said calmly. "And what it sees... Can be made to happen," he said. I felt a chill run down my spine. "What are you talking about?" I asked quietly. Jacob’s eyes sparkled. "I am talking about power you’ve never seen before, power that would leave you questioning yourself,” he said. His voice was smooth and controlled. My heart started beating "N

KATHRYN POV“What do you mean by that?" I asked. Iris didn’t answer away. He just stared at me. He really looked at me. Not like a glance people give when they are talking to you… but like he was trying to see everything. His eyes moved slowly across my face like he was remembering something. The silence was between us. It felt heavy and dangerous.“You heard what I said, " he said quietly.“That’s not an answer.”Iris stepped a little closer. It wasn’t much. It was enough to make my breathing get weird.“Five years, " he said softly. "You still look at me the same way.”“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”“Yes you do.”My chest got tight. I really hated the way he spoke. Calm. Sure. Like he could see through me. “Stop acting like you know me," I said sharply.“I used to.”The words hit deep in my chest. For a second memories flashed through my mind, nights, quiet laughter, stolen kisses in hallways when the house was asleep.I pushed the thoughts away. “That was a time ago,”

KATHRYN POV“Sorry… I didn’t know you were…"Leanne did not finish her words. She kept looking at me and Iris. She looked surprised and sorry at the same time.“I’ll come back later,” she said quickly. Started to walk away. "I didn’t mean to interrupt.”“It's okay.” I said it too fast.Leanne was already gone. The door closed behind her. It seemed loud. Then there was silence. It was an uncomfortable silence.I did not want to look at Iris. So I picked up a file from the table. I was not reading it. I just held it. I felt bad about what happened. It was humiliating. “I should go,” I said. My voice was steady. I was upset inside.Iris did not say anything away. I could feel him looking at me. It made me feel worse. “Kathryn…" Iris started to say.I stopped him. "I’ll take the project,” I said. "That is what you wanted right?”Iris looked at me. I saw something in his face. It was not happiness or satisfaction. It was somethingI told him again, "We will keep this professional. No perso
