The room seemed to get smaller around us.

Jacob stood up straight. “How dare you come between my wife and I?" he demanded.

The word wife made something inside my chest twist.

Iris did not react the way Jacob had wanted him to. He did not match the chaos. He just stood there. He was composed in a way that only seemed to make Jacob more unhinged.
