LUKE'S P.O.V Footsteps follow behind me. "Luke," she calls. I'm angry, but never at Dre. I turn. My face softens instantly, just at the sight of her. "Are you okay?" she asks me. I don't answer. Dre sighs. "We've talked about this. I'd really like you both to get along. Nate is my boyfriend, try to be nice to him." Nathaniel is just like the rest of the guys Dre has dated. They all claim to love her, promise to take care of her. At the end, they'll use and betray her, dumping her like she's nothing. Dre isn't nothing to me. "Can I leave?" LUKE' S P.O.V Dre's phone rings, cutting me off. She reads the caller ID. "Sorry, it's Nate." She's about accepting the call, but doesn't. "You were saying?" She asks, urging me to continue. I start to talk, but her phone rings again. "Just answer," I say, the edge in my voice sharper than I intended. "I'm sorry," she mutters before answering. She presses the phone to her ear, trying to get a word in — probably to tell Nathaniel this isn't a good time — but instead she breaks into a soft smile. I get up to leave. Dre looks up quickly, covering the speaker with her hand so Nate can't hear. "You're not going home, are you?" She whispers. You mean back to my house, where my Dad still is?
