LUKE’S P.O.V “I just want to apologise,” I say to Ruth, words I never thought before now will come out of my mouth— to her. But this time, I really am sorry. “Our date was cut short, I’m sorry about it,” I explain, forcing myself to meet her gaze. “And thank you, you’ve been really helpful, regardless of the way I treated you.” Ruth stays quiet, waiting for me to finish, but that’s all I have to say. “It’s fine,” she tells me. “ I mean, you just ran out of the park and left me alone all by myself at night.” “Dre was just broken up—” “Yeah, I know,” she says. “Like I said, it’s fine, you obviously have priorities, and I’ll have to accept that whether I like them or not. “I shouldn’t have left you alone,” I say. “It was wrong.” “I walked home, you know?” She adds, making me feel worse and even more of a horrible person. “But like I said earlier... priorities.” “How can I make it up to you?” I ask before I can stop myself.
