Irina.Daniel left a few hours ago but his words still lingered in the room, in my head, in my heart. He wasn’t even that angry about his factory burning down. He said that what hurt him the most is that if I’d just told him, he would have understood.I wanted to tell him that it had only been a week and that I had planned to tell him eventually but the truth was that I hadn’t. it would have gone on for months and I wouldn’t have told him.So, I just kept my mouth shut. The house was starting to clear out from the party goers and most of the mums were asking me about the ‘handsome young man’ that had attended the party.“He’s their godfather. But he’s married so there’s no need to get your hopes up, ladies.”, I’d reply their questions with a per functionary smile and giggle once in a while.I had picked up Sebastian’s clothes and delivered them to him awkwardly in the room right after Daniel left. He’d put on his clothes wordlessly and walked out of the house so now hours later, once

I wake up to the feeling of fraying ropes rubbing my wrists raw. It’s so dark that I can’t even see my hand in front of my face. Though the fact that my hands are currently tied behind my back might have something to do with that.I try to move my hands around but pain explodes all the way from my shoulder to my elbow. My vision goes blurry for a moment as my body tries to adjust to the pain. I want to scream but my mouth is dry as hell and my throat still feels like sandpaper. Which means it wasn’t so long ago since I passed out.My shoulder feels like the wound was taken care of and bandaged shut but it still hurt like a bitch.“Oh, look. She’s awake.”, a voice that I didn’t recognize came from behind me.The lights flickered on and I had to squint and blink before my eyes adjusted to the brightness but when I finally did, I wished he’d left the lights off.Standing in front of me was Xander, the man that shot me who I’d yet to name and someone else. The ugliest someone else I’d eve

Irina I sit there in the dark after they leave, my throat burning, the taste of him still coating my tongue like poison. The ropes dig deeper into my wrists every time I shift, and the bullet wound in my shoulder throbs in time with my heartbeat. Blood has already soaked through the bandage they slapped on earlier. I can feel the sticky warmth spreading down my arm.I refuse to cry. Crying will not get me out of this chair. Crying will not bring Sebastian or Daniel or anyone else through that door. The only thing that will save me is me.I test the ropes again, twisting my wrists until the skin splits. Fresh pain flares, but I keep going. The fibers are rough and old. If I keep sawing them against the edge of the chair long enough, something might give. My ankles are another problem. They are bound so tightly that my feet have gone numb. I rock the chair carefully, listening for any give in the wood. It creaks but holds.Somewhere outside the room I hear voices. Xander’s laugh carri

Irina The doctor clears me to leave the clinic two days later under strict orders to rest and keep the shoulder clean. Sebastian does not argue with the timeline. He simply loads me into the car himself and drives me home like I might disappear if he looks away too long. The house feels different when we walk in. Security is everywhere but invisible. I can sense the extra people on the property without seeing them. The triplets tackle me the second I step through the door. I drop to my knees carefully and let them climb all over me while Sebastian watches from the hallway with an expression I cannot quite name.“Mommy you were gone forever,” Alden Jr. complains against my neck.“I know baby. I am home now.”Sebastian Jr. pats my bandaged shoulder with sticky fingers. “Does it hurt.”“A little. But I am okay.”Daniel Jr. just holds on and does not let go for a long time. I breathe them in. Their scent. Their warmth. The simple fact that they are still whole and loud and mine. The far

King Sebastian I leave the clinic only when Irina is deep under again. Shawn meets me in the parking lot with a tablet and a grim expression. The air outside is cool and damp. It does nothing to cool the rage still burning under my skin.“Three more locations linked to Xander’s group,” Shawn says without greeting. “Two safe houses and a warehouse on the industrial side. Heat signatures show movement at all of them. They know she is gone. They are scrambling.”“Take the warehouse first. Leave the safe houses for last. I want them to feel the net closing.”Shawn nods. He does not ask for more orders. He has worked with me long enough to know the difference between a clean job and a message. This will be a message.I return to the clinic before dawn. Irina is still asleep. The doctor updates me on her vitals. Stable. Healing slower than a full lycan would but faster than a pure human. The hybrid blood in her veins is doing its work. I sit in the same chair and watch the rise and fall o
