CHAPTER 123Milo's POV “How many backpacks do we have?” Wilder calls from across the room.I open the cupboard where we store the supplies we don’t use every day and pull out an armload of bags. We pick these up every time we see them because you just never know when you’re going to lose or damage one and need another. Chapter 125Steele's POV Honestly, genuinely, if I’m being truthful with myself, I can’t stand blood magic.I know that makes me an outsider in my coven. I know Lord Enorio embraces, even encourages, the use of blood magic. After all, the moon has been placed for our use. He just wants to get as much as we can out of it. And I do agree with that philosophy.But from the moment the knife is pressed into my hand, I feel uncomfortable. I know what’s coming.I’ve never been the one to actually do this before. Chapter 127Cassian's POV “Lunch!” Wilder calls.Finally! I’ve been achingly hungry for the past hour, but of course I couldn’t say anything. It’s been nearly impossible, though, to resist the scents of prey animals rustling around in the grass. I’ve been dying to go after them.Milo shifts and jogs back to Wilder and Lyra, but I don’t do the same. Not yet. I know they’re going to want to open a can of food for our lunch. But I’ve been thinking about fresh meat all day, and we might as well take something down while it’s available rather than wasting our rations.It doesn’t take long. I catch the scent of a rabbit, and I’m able to prowl pretty close to it before it freezes, ears perked up, detecting trouble. There must not be very many predators in this area because this poor beast definitely wasn’t ready for me. The chase is a joke. Chapter 129Steele's POV Lord Enorio walks into his tent with blood on his hands.I’ve been waiting outside for about half an hour—no one is allowed into Lord Enorio’s tent without his consent—but when he cocks his head as he walks past me, I turn and follow him inside.He moves to the stone altar at the back of the tent and submerges his bloody hands in a basin of water he keeps there. I take a seat and say nothing. He won’t acknowledge me, I know, until he’s finished with whatever ritual this is. I’m sure it has something to do with blessing the field, and I’m a little nauseated. Didn’t we get enough blood from the Moon Caster we killed last night? Why does he have fresh blood on his hands?Finally, he turns to face me.
