I waited for hours, branch clutched in my shaking hands as I sat perched just inside the cave. Every gust of wind, every sound sent my nerves on end. Panic, hot and sharp, stung through me as I trembled, terrified. Determined. Weak as I was, I wouldn't go down without a fight.Thankfully, no fight was needed.Only after the sun began its descent on the other side of the mountain, and no predator came stalking out of the tree line to attack, did I slip out of the cave and survey the area.
