CHAPTER 52: Still, it makes me nervousThe spa exuded an ambience of serenity, with soft instrumental music playing in the background and the subtle aroma of lavender and sage wafting through the air. Sarah and Cara lay side by side on adjacent massage tables, their bodies draped modestly with plush towels, as skilled hands worked to ease the tension from their muscles. This had always been Sarah and Cara's favourite thing to do together. They always got to catch up and talk about everything while relaxing. And this time, they really had a lot to talk about.Sarah turned her head slightly, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Cara, your baby bump is the cutest thing I've ever seen. It's becoming more prominent now. Almost four months already, right?"Cara chuckled, her hand instinctively resting on her not so flat abdomen. "Yes. I'm almost four months gone. Time flies, doesn't it? Feels like just yesterday we found out. And now, we're almost hitting the fourth month mark. It feels surreal so

CHAPTER 54: Put her in her placeEdward's muscles strained with each repetition, sweat glistening on his dark brows as he powered through his morning workout in his home gym. His skin glistened with a sheen of sweat, as his muscles rippled with each move he made. The sound of a high intensity workout beat reverberated in the gym, blasting from the speakers in the room. The rhythmic clanking of weights and his measured breaths were swallowed by the loud music that kept him pumped, filling the room, a sanctuary where he could momentarily escape the complexities of his life. One would think that his mind was on the strenuous workout he was doing, but his consciousness was still preoccupied with thoughts of Sarah. They had practically been like strangers at work all week. The only time they spoke was when she had brought the files to his office. Her answer had not doused his suspicion that she and Benicio were together, and neither did it confirm. There was no doubt in his mind that he w

CHAPTER 56: You could have been seriously hurtThe aftershocks of all that had occurred earlier in the day were yet to diminish. The embers of the fire Veronica’s latest plot had ignited was yet to die off, even though it was already late into the night. Inside the sitting room of Sarah’s house, the tension was palpable, just like an electric current snapping between every breath, and every pause.Benicio stood with his hands braced on the windowsill, the city lights below flickering like embers to the fire simmering inside him. His sharp angular jaw was clenched tightly. His usual calm and self-contained expression, barely held back the storm that raged within him. But his eyes—they were burning. Focused. Dangerous.Ever since he met Sarah, he could pride himself with the fact that she had never gotten hurt by anyone again, whether man or woman. So, to think that she had been targeted and maligned especially through the media by Veronica, and now today, it had turned physical. A piec

CHAPTER 58: Today what, Benicio? The black luxury car pulled up to Edward's sprawling estate, its sleek frame cutting through the hush of the evening. The house loomed in shadow and glass, quiet and calculated, very much like the man who owned it.Inside the car, Sarah sat rigid in her seat, her jaw clenched, hands tightly gripping the fabric of her dress. Her thoughts swirled with very anxious energy. She was still very uncomfortable with the idea of Benicio coming to Edward's home. She wasn’t thinking about Edward. Not directly. She was thinking about the way the world had seen her earlier that day. The way even strangers had looked at her as if they had the right to judge her…to touch her, like one of them had actually done. All because of a video. All because of a lie. Now, what were they going to think of her if they saw her going to his home. What would happen if anything went south, and things got worse than they already were?Beside her, Benicio was seething—calmly, dangerous

CHAPTER 60: An honest admissionThe air in the conference room was light and crisp, devoid of tension or heaviness of any sort. Edward stood, and buttoned his coat, before shaking the hand of their overly excited new supplier.“Well, this has been concluded then. I think you got yourself a deal, Mr Dunbar.”The man smiled widely, holding and shaking Edward’s hands with a mixture of awe, and great deference.Edward nodded once. “I think you owe it all to my partner, Miss Tanner,” he replied, gesturing to Sarah who stood beside him, a polite smile on her face, “she carefully went through the list that had been drawn up, and picked out your account.”Mr. Dunbar let go of his hand, and caught Sarah's hand in a firm handshake. “Thank you so much, madam. This is a dream come true. I’m so happy my company can get to work with Huxley Enterprises. It's even a greater honour to join the company during Its joint partnership with another huge conglomerate like yours. I'm truly honoured.”Sarah c
