CHAPTER 31

JULIAN The penthouse was quiet when I stepped inside, but I could feel the tension in the air the moment I closed the door behind me. I was still thinking about the group project and how well we had done when Enzo appeared from the living room like he had been waiting for me.He walked straight up to me and cornered me near the wall, his arms crossed over his chest and his eyes sharp.“You heard what the parents said,” he said, his voice low and tight. “We’re going to dinner in two days time.”I looked at him and shrugged. “Yeah, obviously. I was on the call too. Why are you acting like this is news to me?”Enzo’s jaw tightened. “ We need to talk about this, Julian. Going to that dinner together is going to be awkward as hell and you know it.”I dropped my bag on the floor and crossed my arms too. “What is there to talk about? Our parents want us to have dinner with them. We go, we eat, we pretend everything is fine for a couple of hours, and then we come back here. That’s it.”“That

CHAPTER 32

JULIANI was still at the bar, finishing another drink when a guy walked up to me. He was tall, with messy brown hair and a friendly smile. He leaned against the counter next to me and nodded toward the dance floor.“You look like you could use a dance,” he said, his voice loud over the music. “Want to join me?”I looked at him for a second. He seemed harmless, and I was already feeling the alcohol buzzing through me. I didn’t want to sit at the bar alone anymore. So I nodded.“Sure,” I said. “Why not.”He grinned and took my hand, leading me onto the dance floor. The music was loud and heavy, the kind that made it easy to forget everything else. We started dancing, and it didn’t take long before we were closer. His hands rested on my hips, and I let myself move with him. We were grinding now, our bodies pressed together as the beat pulsed around us. It felt good to just let go for a little while.“You’re a good dancer,” the guy said close to my ear. “What’s your name?”“Julian,” I re

CHAPTER 33

JULIAN I woke up the next morning with my head pounding and my mouth feeling like sandpaper. My brain felt fuzzy, like someone had stuffed cotton inside it. I blinked at the ceiling for a few seconds, trying to piece together what had happened. The last clear thing I remembered was being at the club, downing drinks at the bar while watching Charlotte and Eros flirt. Everything after that was a blur.I sat up slowly, wincing at the headache. How the hell did I get home? I wondered. Did I take a cab? Did someone bring me back?I had no idea. My clothes from last night were still on the floor in a messy pile, which meant I had managed to change into sleep clothes at some point, but I couldn’t remember doing it.I got out of bed, grabbed a hoodie, and headed to the kitchen for coffee. The moment I stepped out of my room, I saw Enzo standing by the counter, pouring himself a cup. He looked up when he heard me, but neither of us said a word. The air between us felt thick and awkward. I walk

CHAPTER 34

JULIANI had taken care of Liam weeks ago when I transferred when he was fighting leukemia. He had been in the hospital for years according to the nurses. I used to sit with him sometimes during my rotations, showing him how to use the blood pressure cuff on his teddy bear and letting him listen to his own heartbeat. He had beaten the cancer. Just two weeks ago, the whole ward had thrown him a small party when he was finally discharged. I still remembered how big his smile was when his mom wheeled him out, waving at all the nurses and saying he was going home for good. And now he was back. “Liam?” I said, rushing over to the stretcher. His eyes were closed. His breathing was shallow. One of the nurses looked at me. “You know him?”“Yeah,” I said, my voice cracking a little. “He was here before. He just beat cancer. He was supposed to be done with all this.”The doctors started working on him fast. I stayed close, doing whatever they told me. I helped cut off his shirt, started anothe

CHAPTER 35

ENZOI stood outside Julian’s door for a long time, listening to him cry.The sound was quiet at first, but it grew heavier. I could hear the way his breathing hitched, like he was trying to hold it in but couldn’t. My hand was already on the door, ready to knock again, but I stopped myself. Why do I even care?I didn’t like this situation. I never liked it. My father marrying his mother had been a mistake from the start. I didn’t trust it. I didn’t trust her. And now I was stuck living with her son, the same guy I had fucked in a car before I even knew who he was. The same guy who made my chest feel tight every time he looked at me like he hated me and wanted me at the same time.I didn’t understand why I kept getting pulled toward him. I didn’t want to care. I didn’t want to feel anything when I heard him breaking down on the other side of that door. But I did. And that pissed me off.I knocked once more, softer this time.“Julian,” I said, keeping my voice low. “Open the door.”Not

CHAPTER 36

JULIAN The dinner was at the big house, the one our parents lived in. It felt strange walking through those doors again after everything that had happened. Enzo and I had barely spoken since the night at the club. He had been in a bad mood for days, and I was still carrying the weight of what happened with Liam. My chest felt heavy every time I thought about that little boy smiling at me before he slipped away.My mom greeted us at the door with the biggest smile I had seen in a long time. She pulled me into a tight hug the moment I stepped inside.“Julian! Oh, my baby, look at you,” she said, squeezing me. “You look tired. Have you been eating properly? Come in, come in. Dinner is almost ready.”She turned to Enzo and gave him a warm hug too, even though he stood stiffly and barely hugged her back.“Enzo, it’s so good to see you. How have you been, sweetheart?”“I’m fine, ma’am,” Enzo replied politely, his voice flat.My mom laughed lightly. “Oh, none of that ‘ma’am’ nonsense. Just

CHAPTER 37

ENZOI was still fuming long after we got back from dinner. My father had pulled me aside in his study right after the meal. Julian and his mother were still clearing the table when Dante closed the door behind us and got straight to the point.“I won’t be able to go with you to your mother’s grave on the anniversary,” he said, loosening his tie. “I have an important meeting with the board and some key investors from overseas. It’s been scheduled for months. I can’t move it.”I stared at him. “You’re not coming?”Dante sighed and poured himself a drink. “Enzo, I loved your mother. You know that. She was the best thing that ever happened to me. But life doesn’t stop because of anniversaries. This meeting could bring in a major contract that affects the entire company. I need to be there. You should understand that by now.”I laughed bitterly. “So the company comes before her again. Just like always.”His expression hardened. “Don’t twist my words. I’m not saying she didn’t matter. I’m

CHAPTER 38

JULIANI woke up that morning feeling off, but I couldn’t explain why. When I came out of my room, Enzo was already in the living room. He was sitting on the couch, staring at nothing. He looked cold and distant, like he had built a wall around himself overnight. His face was blank, and he didn’t even glance at me when I walked past.I stood there for a second, watching him. Something felt different today. He was always quiet, but this was something else. It felt heavier. I wanted to ask if he was okay, but that wasn’t how things worked between us. We barely talked unless we had to. So I just grabbed my bag and left for school without saying a word. The whole day at school and during my hospital rounds, I wasn’t really present. My mind kept drifting back to Enzo. I kept wondering what was wrong with him. He had looked so closed off. I tried to focus on my patients, but my thoughts kept going back to the penthouse. By the time I was heading home in the evening, I still couldn’t shake t

CHAPTER 39

EnzoI woke up in the middle of the night with a heavy weight on my chest and something soft under my head. My eyes opened slowly, and it took me a few seconds to realise where I was. I was lying on the bed, but my head was resting on someone’s lap. Julian’s lap.He was asleep, leaning back against the headboard with his head tilted to the side. His hand was still loosely resting on my shoulder, like he had fallen asleep while stroking my hair. His breathing was deep and even. He looked peaceful, completely unaware that I was awake.I stayed still for a moment, watching him. My head was pounding from all the alcohol I had drunk earlier, but the memories were still there. The grave. The crying. The way I had completely broken down in the living room. And somehow, Julian had found me and brought me to bed. He must have struggled to carry me. I was much heavier than him.I carefully lifted my head from his lap and sat up. Julian didn’t stir. He just shifted slightly and stayed asleep aga

CHAPTER 40

JULIANI was on the floor, staring up at Enzo like my brain had completely short-circuited. My heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. He was crouched in front of me, caging me in with his arms, and his words were still echoing in my head.If you wanted to suck me, stepbrother, just say so.I opened my mouth, but nothing came out at first. I tried to speak, but the words got stuck somewhere in my throat. My eyes kept dropping to the obvious bulge in his boxers. He was so hard. And I wanted it. God, I wanted it so badly it scared me.Enzo’s voice was low and rough when he spoke again.“You don’t have to be ashamed,” he said. His eyes were dark, locked on mine. “I know you want to suck it. Go ahead.”I swallowed hard. My hands were shaking. I was this close — this close — to reaching out, pulling his boxers down, and taking him into my mouth. The thought alone made my own cock twitch painfully in my pants. I could already imagine the weight of him on my tongue, the way he
