I was pretty buzzed by the time Sylas dragged me upstairs to bed. I was feeling good. Really good. I squeaked as I fell onto the bed trying to take my T-shirt off. Okay, maybe I was a little more than just buzzed. Sylas chuckled as he helped me pull the garment over my stupid cast. Looking down at me as he stood over me.God, he was sexy.I sat up, moving to sit on my knees in front of him. Keeping my eyes on his, I tugged at the hem of his shirt. Pulling it over his head, I rested my arms on his shoulders. Dropping it to the floor behind him as I leaned in to kiss him. Our skin touched. Hot and flushed. Flames erupted in my core. Sylas’ hands ran up my sides, his thumbs grazing my breasts. My panties soaked in seconds. My hands moved between us when Sylas pulled back with a grunt.“You’re drunk, baby girl,” he said. “I’m not tak…”“I’m in complete control of my faculties,” I told him, tracing my lips down his neck. “No advantage will be taken.”Sylas grabbed my hands. Lacing his fing

“Okay, what the hell has been up with you two lately?” Christina demanded as we drove through the city. “You have been acting so up and down since you moved here. I thought you were dealing with the trauma but there’s more to it than that. This is about Sylas. Now, spill.”“I don’t want to talk about it,” I said sharply.“Tough shit,” Christina said. “If I’m being followed, I want to know why and that we’re both safe. So, what is going on?”“I don’t know,” I yelled, finally admitting my own confusion. “I don’t know what’s going on between me and Sylas anymore.”I crossed my arms over my chest and slid down in the seat. I’d been avoiding telling Christina about a lot of what had been going on the past couple of weeks. I hadn’t told her that I’ve barely been sleeping or that I was already going stir crazy being at the house all day. That I didn’t understand why Sylas wanted me to work with him on this project. That I didn’t understand why he wanted to be with me at all.“Okay, babes, I’

“Sawyer, we don’t have to go,” I told her again as we prepared to walk out the door. “Honestly, I don’t even want to go.”“You told Eric you would give him an answer today,” she replied as she switched items into a different purse. “Everyone is expecting you to be there. They have been eagerly waiting for your decision.”Us. They expected us to be there. Honestly, they were eagerly waiting to meet Sawyer. I couldn’t care less about meeting their expectations either way. I wanted to make things right with Sawyer. But she was shutting me out. Putting all her focus on this damned dinner.“Ready?’ she asked, standing by the door.No. I wanted to stay and get Sawyer to talk to me. Something she hadn’t been doing since the attack. I used to feel like I could get her to tell me anything. Now, as soon as we started to get into anything real—anything serious—she would shut down and pull away. I wanted so badly to bring her here and give her a home and a life that she deserved. And we’d had som

Sawyer did well throughout dinner. I had no doubts that she would make me proud and she pulled through. As dinner finished up, there was normal routine to wrapping up these events. Some would linger at the table, have some dessert. Others would stand, stretch their legs, have another drink while they continued to talk business. I would often be the first to leave. Watching how comfortably Sawyer fit in with the people I spent every day with and remembering how we left things, I was inclined to stick to that tradition.“I’m ready to take you home,” I whispered in her ear. “Let’s get out of here.”She gave me gentle smile. “Okay,” she agreed. “But I have to visit the ladies room first.”“Don’t take too long,” I told her, kissing her cheek.I watched her walk out of the room. Seeing more of the Sawyer I knew showing again. It made me think I wasn’t completely screwing everything up in our relationship. I pushed away from the table and went to the sidebar to pour a drink.“Pour me one of

“Oh, god, Sawyer…” Sylas whispered. “I didn’t…” He swallowed. His lips ever so slightly grazing mine as his warm breath danced across my skin. My eyes fluttered shut as I felt his hands pushing my skirt up my thighs. “Then let me give you what you need.”My breath hitched. I pressed a hand on his chest. “Sylas, I’m not some responsibility,” I told him. I didn’t really believe that anymore. I understood now. But something in me still needed to be sure. “If you don’t want…”A low, rumbling chuckle sounded from his chest. Vibrating beneath my hand. The hand he took, pulling it down between us. Pressing it against the rock-hard length beneath his trousers. His face dipped down, allowing his lips to trail kisses along my neck. A fire flared to life in my core and I was soaked.“It would be my greatest pleasure, baby girl,” he whispered in my ear. His fingers grazed up my inner thigh. “Please, let me make you forget every fucking person but me.” He slipped beneath my panties, pressing tenta
