Chapter 1

"What are you doing?"Mia ripped the phone out of my hand. She tried to unlock it. The Face ID failed. The next second, she slammed it onto the floor. The screen shattered.I could no longer keep my body steady. The seizure kept hitting in waves. My consciousness was fading in and out.I was on my knees on the floor, crying for help almost on instinct."I'm not... faking... I really have epilepsy... call... an ambulance..."Only then did Mia finally realize something was wrong. Her brows tightened slightly. However, before she could say anything…Aaron was already on his feet, pulling her behind him.He swirled the drink in his hand and lightly tapped the glass against the table, the sound crisp and sharp."Logan, that's enough."Tonight is my promotion party. You're acting like this on purpose. What, trying to get attention? Or trying to make Mia feel sorry for you?"He looked down at me, his tone full of contempt."You've been a celebrity for too long. You really think y

Chapter 2

Mia had stopped hearing me out.Aaron crouched over me and tapped my cheek."I get it, man."You're used to being the center of attention. Tonight, nobody's playing along, so you're doing this for the spotlight."People around us were laughing.Phones were up."Embarrassing."Mia's jaw set. She took a step back to put distance between us.She looked at me. The last of the doubt left her face."Stop it."My heart was pounding. My chest felt clamped tight.I could not form a full sentence. I started inching toward the door.Vision was breaking up at the edges. Light was flickering. The aura was getting worse. Awareness was tearing apart.Behind me, Aaron's laugh rang out."What? Got exposed, so now you're running?"You were acting pretty well a minute ago."The room burst into laughter.Mia's face went cold, but she didn't stop them.I almost reached the doorframe.Aaron suddenly grabbed my ankle and yanked hard.I was dragged backward across the floor. My forehead s

"That's why he's so good."Mia's face changed. She slammed the table."Logan, are you done? This is Aaron's promotion party. Stop."I was on the floor. The post-ictal exhaustion plus the alcohol on top was wrecking me. I could not respond."You."Her voice went colder. She lifted a glass of liquor and held it at my mouth."Get up. Apologize to him. Drink this, and we move on."Aaron was already drinking. He squatted down next to me."All right, stop pretending."Everyone is tired of watching."Be a man. Don't be petty."He took the bottle and refilled my glass.Three of his friends pinned me down. They forced my mouth open. The full glass went in.The minute the liquor hit my throat, my chest seized. My heart rate spiked again. The post-seizure neural activity was amplified by the alcohol. My awareness fragmented further.Black crept into the edges of my vision. My breathing turned irregular. It was not pain. It was neural overload and oxygen deprivation.I forc

Chapter 4

"Ah–"The pain hit so hard I lost my voice for a moment. The skin on my face had split. Warm liquid ran down my jaw.The chemicals were still working through my system. My breathing turned uneven. My awareness started breaking apart."Logan, have you lost your mind?!"Mia turned around, her expression changing instantly. She rushed over. When she saw the blood on my face, she froze."You... what happened to you?"She reached out instinctively, then stopped herself."Logan, I'll take you to the hospital."She grabbed her keys. For the first time, panic appeared on her face.Aaron immediately stepped in front of her.Quickly, he hid the bloody glass shard behind his back, his tone turning casual again."Relax."He's just too deep into the act."Look at the amount of blood. Nothing important got hit."He pointed at the empty bottle on the floor and laughed."He was faking a seizure a minute ago. Now he's putting on some self-harm performance."You don't seriously belie

A team of security poured in. They had every person in the room on the floor in seconds. My father walked in. He saw my face. He went red."Get him out of there. Now."I was carried out. He already had emergency medication in his hand.Mia saw the label. The blood drained from her face."Epilepsy..."She looked at me. The cuts on my face had swollen under the alcohol. The skin had split open, exposing the flesh beneath. She covered her mouth.Aaron had panicked the second my father walked in.His jaw practically locked open."Director... Director Ford... he is... your son?"Until that moment, he had never believed I was actually part of the Ford family. My father's face darkened. He drove a kick into Aaron's chest."What gives you the right to touch my son?"The kick sent Aaron crashing into the vat behind him. The shattered rim tore open his back, blood quickly soaking through his shirt. He was sweating from the pain, but did not dare make a sound. The Ford family held e

Chapter 6

"The things that happened that day, I really didn't know. Why didn't you tell me you were sick? If I'd known you had epilepsy, it never would've turned out like this."I said nothing. The silence made her uneasy. Her gaze drifted from the jade carving on the wall back to my face, stopping at the scars that still hadn't fully healed."Your face…"Her voice turned hoarse. The next second, as if trying to make up for something, she carefully picked up the ointment on the table and reached toward me."That day, I should've paid more attention. I…"I pushed her hand away. The ointment fell to the floor, and I swept it straight into the trash."Logan?"She froze, hurt clear in her eyes.I looked at her, keeping my anger under control."Mia, do you remember what I begged you that day?"I told you I had epilepsy. I told you I was already having a seizure. I begged you to call an ambulance."But did you believe me?"A stimulant drink, high-concentration coffee, and liquor. Do you

Chapter 7

She had been telling herself it was me.The man stabbing her in the back was Aaron.More photos leaked out. Strangers messaged her, asking how much she charged for a night. She broke. She came to the Ford estate on her knees."Logan, for the sake of what we had, help me."My father wanted her thrown out. I lifted a hand.I walked over."One thing. Answer me one question, and I'll have everything online taken down."She grabbed my hand like it was a lifeline."Anything."I paused, then said it slowly."You and Aaron grew up together. How did he get into a Ford-affiliated hospital system?"She froze.I turned and walked away. She had grown up with Aaron. She knew exactly what he was like. He was mediocre. He had a twin brother, the truly talented one. His brother graduated from medical school and entered a Ford hospital, quickly surpassing him in both status and income.Jealousy grew inside him over time.A while ago, Aaron Stone–whose real name had once been Adrian Stone

The point was to keep her hopeful. The point was also to draw Aaron out of hiding. This time, she picked the noodle stand we used to visit in college. The owner was an elderly man. He did not know much about the internet, and he had no idea we had already broken up.When he saw us, he greeted us warmly."Long time no see, you two. The usual?"I nodded. There were not many people in the shop. The old man cooked noodles while chatting casually."You've both been out of school for years now. Why aren't you married yet?"He paused, then looked at Mia, his tone suddenly serious."Miss, your boyfriend is a good man. Don't let him down."When your father had kidney failure, he was the one who matched and donated a kidney. Later, he didn't recover well, and that's how the heart problem started. You should be more understanding with him."A bowl hit the floor with a loud crack, shattering into pieces.Mia's face instantly turned pale as she looked up at me."Logan?"Shock flooded

Chapter 9

I did not think much of it.After all, her affairs had nothing to do with me anymore. That weekend, I went to the hospital for a follow-up checkup. The driver had taken emergency leave, and there had been a fire at the estate, so no one could come pick me up in time.I was short on time, so I drove myself.Halfway there, I realized something was wrong–the car signal had completely cut out.The next second, a car sped into view and came straight at me.I saw the man behind the wheel.Aaron Stone. His expression was twisted, his eyes full of madness."Ford, I know you ruined me–go to hell!"Instead of going after Mia for revenge like I expected, he had targeted me directly.I switched lanes immediately, trying to shake him off, but Aaron stayed right behind me.It did not take long for me to realize something else was wrong–his car had been modified. Its speed and handling far outclassed my standard vehicle.I slammed on the accelerator and barely managed to widen the gap.
