Chapter 11

Sabrina’s PovIt couldn’t be real. And yet it was. My fingers trembled as I stared at the screen, the message was there. I called the seventh time, trying to be sure that I knew who it was. But it never connected. A private number. There were two people that I knew could do this. Tucker. My mom? No, my mother would call me to my face to tell me just how useless I was for what I had done. She wouldn’t do this, she wouldn’t hide behind the keyboard, she has never been that kind of a person. But Tucker? This looked like something he would do. Another one of his antics to make sure that he has me right where he wants me.My mind wandered back to my mother, no calls, no checkups, nothing to ask how I was at the moment. When Tucker had gotten hurt, she had been there, she was a mother to him, making sure that he was fine. And now, me, the daughter, the one she should protect, she isn’t here.I blinked back the tears that stung the sides of my eyes, I wasn’t going to waste my time and cry ov

Chapter 12

Sabrina’s Pov“The doctor is here for you,” the maid informed me just as I dropped the spoon. It was a routine now, eat, doctor’s visit. And then I spent the rest of the day waiting on Nevan to come home. But this was better to follow than actually having to think about the explosion that was happening outside these walls. The stories Tucker must have told people just so that he could look like a good person. And knowing Tucker, I knew he had a lot to say.“Madam?”My head snapped up, my cheeks flushed as I stared at the face before me, “Sorry, let him in,” I smiled. She must think I am crazy with how out of my depth I seem each time she talks to me.“Hello, Miss Sabrina,” he walked in with a smile, his eyes taking in my form. “Are you ready for today?” he asked. My brows furrowed, why did he have to make it sound like there was something I would be doing? Wasn’t it the usual thing? Sit, listen to him as he tried to encourage me about my not-so-working legs?“Yes,” I replied, I didn’t

Chapter 13

Nevan’s Pov“Do you want to stay for a bit?” her soft voice echoed through. But I wasn’t having it, not when all that burned beneath me was rage, deep-rooted rage that made me want to smash something. But I couldn’t do that, not when she was here. I couldn’t scare her like that. I wouldn’t.I forced a smile on my lips, “I am sorry, I have to leave, I need to get a few things sorted out in the office, but I will be back before dinner,” I quickly added the last part. She smiled, “Okay, I guess I need to find a vase to put in these flowers,”She was avoiding talking about it, but I could see it in her eyes, the call had her spooked for a minute. Was this what happens whenever I am gone? Does she get these calls every day and how many times does Tucker do this?I wanted to ask her for more information, but I knew she wouldn’t give me anything. She wouldn’t say it.“Isabelle can do that…”“I want to, at least can handle a few things,” she said in a firm tone.I want to kiss her, the way sh

Chapter 14

Sabrina’s PovThe rest of the hours after Nevan left, went by like a blur. My mind was still on the call that I just had with Tucker. He wasn’t apologetic, rather he sounded like he knew just how to torture me.My mind wandered back to Milo, how crazy had I been that I never noticed the disconnect between him and me? I had been so blinded by trust that I never noticed how deep Fiona had infiltrated my home. He was confused I knew that, something tucker must have done to him.I was going to fix that.I grabbed the walking cane, the doctor said I could walk, there was no need for me to actually use the crutches ever again. I needed to get better, if I was going to fight, I needed to be strong.“Madam, the doctor said you shouldn’t strain yourself,” I could hear the worry in her tone as he walked behind me.I smiled, “It is fine, I just want to walk around the garden, I won’t take more than a few minutes,” I said. She wanted to argue, I could see it in her eyes. I just want to feel the s

Chapter 15

Sabrina’s PovNevan stood by the door with a huge grin on his face, a look that I hated how familiar I was with it. That cocky grin only confirmed one thing, he was the one who was behind it. He had made people hear of this engagement, a proposal that I hadn’t actually said yes to.“Welcome, Alpha.” Isabelle bowed. He wasn’t looking at her, his eyes were on me, as he walked closer to where I stood. She must have taken that as her cue, because all I heard was the sound of the door closing signalling that we were alone. “Hey,” he greeted, his breath fanning my face.I struggled to stand still, my lungs filled with the scent that came with him, leatherwood, earthy, just the right can of scents that has you sniffing and smiling. “You are back early,” I commented, my voice soft, but I knew he heard me.He shrugged, “well, thought you would like us to spend the evening together.”I opened my mouth to speak, but a shriek came out, my arms tightening around his neck as I pressed my head into

Chapter 16

Sabrina’s PovTwo days and yet the almost kiss moment still feels like it was yesterday. My lips still tingled from the way his lips had grazed mine, a ghost of a touch but the haunting was lasting.Even though everything between us has gone back to normal, I can’t stop thinking about how it felt to have him that close. And lately, he has been too close, his hands always reaching, threading his fingers with mine, kissing the back of my hands, something he does without even knowing that he was. And that was the confusing thing with his actions, I couldn’t know how to handle it. He was being nice and I was dying with imagination.“madam,” my head snapped up at the sound of the voice. She must think I am crazy with how lost in my head I have been.“Maybe we should take a rest,” Isabelle said with a smile on her face. “We have been walking around for thirty minutes,” she pointed out.I smiled, “If you want to sit you can, but I am enjoying these little walks,” I said. She frowned slightly

Chapter 17

Sabrina’s Pov“This is not worth it,” Isabelle whispered, her hand holding mine, as she tried to pull me away.It wasn’t, I knew that, but I also knew what happens when you let words fly around without caution. When you let people think, they can walk all over you. I had lived that life; I wasn’t going to live it the second time. But when I stared at the face that smirked at me, her beauty like that of a model, it was hard to picture such a person acting this vile. She said nothing, just stared at me as if she didn’t believe that I would challenge her. And when I noticed, she wasn’t going to repeat it, I turned, ready to walk away.“You better hide your men, there is a slut in town and she isn’t going to stop until she has broken a thousand more homes!” the voice rang out louder. The diner erupted in laughter at her words.‘Walk away, be the bigger person,’ but I have been doing that for more than I could count. Kept a blind eye on whatever it was that Tucker did. The same blind eye w

Chapter 18

Nevan’s PovThe drive home was quiet, not the comfortable kind that has you reeling in the events of the day. It was the heavy one, the one that sits and just doesn’t stop being pungent. My eyes flickered to the side stealing a gaze at her, wondering what was going through her mind. She was quiet, too quiet for the Sabrina I knew couldn’t stop talking. When I pulled the car to a stop, I turned toward her, “Do you want me to…”She didn’t wait, just pushed the door open as she stormed through the front door of the house. For someone with healing legs, she was fast. Too fast.I rushed in after her, “Sabrina!” She ignored my calls as she made her way straight to her room. I wasn’t going to let her lock me out, I took the steps two at a time, rushing towards the door, sliding my foot right in before she even had the time to close it in my face. She huffed, storming away from the door as she made it into the room, her frustration evident in her steps.“What is going on?” I asked, closing th

Chapter 19

Sabrina’s PovBy the time I came to it, Nevan wasn’t beside me. I forced down the pang that I felt in my chest. He had a pack to run, he didn’t have to cater to me at every hour. With a huff and a groan, I made my way to the bathroom, washing off the grim that the day had stuck to my skin.By the time I made it downstairs, Isabelle was already in the kitchen, the smell of sizzling garlic and lamb chops filled the air. My stomach growled, the sound reminding me that I had missed a chance to have a meal because of my fight with Mabel.Mabel; the council elder’s daughter. An equivalent to a freaking princess. I should have tried to know who she was before deciding to fight. nd now, I knew that the chances of the people, seeing me as anything other than an intruder were slim. Too slim now that I had fought their beloved princess.“Good evening, madam,” Isabelle’s voice rang out as she stared at me with a smile on her face.I watched her for a second, wondering if this was actually what sh

Chapter 20

Sabrina’s PovI left the window curtains open again. The sun’s rays though beautiful burned through my eyelids, forcing me to wake instantly. My hand darted to the side, reaching out for Nevan, but I came up empty.I bit my lower lip, fighting back the feeling at gnashed deep in my chest. He didn’t have to be here every time, he had a life, a job as an alpha. That was something. I quickly shrugged off the nightwear I had on, rushing into the shower to wash away every sweat that I felt. When I walked out, I reached for a pair short that weren’t quite appropriate but since Nevan wouldn’t be here, and I wasn’t expecting the doctor to visit today, I guess I could wear this for the meantime. When I walked down the stairs, I froze in my spot, my eyes on Nevan sitting calmly on the dining table. “shit,” I mumbled, the sound not as quiet as I thought it would be. His head turned in my direction, his eyes taking in my form, from my legs to my chest. I didn’t miss the way his gaze lingered on m
