Lahat ng Kabanata ng The Unexpected Heir: Kabanata 1 - Kabanata 10

The flickering numbers on his Bloomberg screen blurred together....Alexander Sterling's eyes were fixed on the rain hitting the windows of his office 70 stories up in Manhattan. A huge deal worth three billion dollars was waiting for his decision, one that would change industries. Usually moments like these got him pumped up with the thrill of being in control of a rush, todayjust felt Off. His assistant, Marcus Thorne, a man who was loyal and discreet came in without knocking, looking serious. "Sir, I've got some news." Alexander didn't even look up. "Another market dip?. Has Senator Hayes finally agreed to work with us?" "No, sir... It's about James, James Maxwell." Alexander's jaw clenched, James his longtime lawyer, friend and back in the day a buddy. He had known James was dealing with something, James had always been private. "How bad?" "He's gone Alexander...Heart attack, Suddenly." Marcus hesitated, added, "His memorial service is Friday and the reading of the will is on

The sound of his car door slamming shut was the thing that made Alexander feel a little better. He was still thinking about Eleanor Vance. She had really stood up to him. That did not happen very often. People usually did what he said especially after he had made it hard for them to work in their field.. Eleanor was different. She had looked him in the eye and told him what she thought.Alexander was angry. Deep down he was also feeling a little helpless. He had tried to make himself feel better on the drive home to his apartment in Manhattan. He told himself that Eleanor was just being emotional because she was a mother.. Her words had really gotten to him. She had said that his world was loveless and that she needed to protect their son from him. Those words had hurt him more than he wanted to admit. When he got home his assistant Marcus was waiting for him with some papers. "I found out some things about Vance Designs, " Marcus said. "It's a company but they do great work. They car

Eleanor watched Alexander walk away, his shoulders disappearing down the hallway leaving behind a really empty feeling in the boardroom. He said "Try me" and those words kept playing in her mind. They were really scary. Her hands were shaking. Alexander was not just confident he was also really scary because he just would not give up. He really believed he had the right to go to Leo's birthday party to become a part of the world she had built, a world that was free from his bad influence. She went back to her office feeling really confused because the good feeling she had from her presentation was overshadowed by what Alexander said. Her partner and closest friend Sarah met her at the door looking really worried. "What happened there Eleanor? You looked like you had seen a ghost when you walked out."Eleanor sat down in her chair covering her face with her hands. "It was worse than a ghost, Sarah. Alexander. He is on the board of the foundation. He was the one who was evaluating my pr

The journal was sitting between Alexander and Eleanor like a bomb waiting to go off. Alexander was furious. You could feel the anger building up inside him. Eleanor was scared. She was not scared of Alexander. She was scared of what James had done. James was Eleanor's friend, the person she talked to when she was going through a time. He was the one who knew all her secrets.. Now it seemed like James had been playing a game with them. He had been keeping secrets from them. "The key " Alexander said, his voice low and angry. "What is the double key, Eleanor? What did James not tell us?" Eleanor tried to remember. She thought about the deposit box she and Alexander had opened when they were married. They had put their papers in it like their wedding certificate and the deed to their apartment. She had not thought about it in years. "It was a bank box, Alexander, " she said. "We used it to store our papers. I have not thought about it since we got divorced." Alexander had not emptie

The line from James Maxwell's email kept replaying in Alexander's mind. "The truth, like a river will always find its way to the sea " it read. It sent a chill down his spine. It wasn't a resignation letter; it was a warning of chaos to come. Beside him Eleanor gripped her phone tightly. Her knuckles were white. Ben Carter stood by the door. He looked calm. His eyes kept darting between Alexander and the city lights outside."What could James possibly mean?" Eleanor whispered. Her voice was trembling with fear. "What 'truth' could he reveal that would hurt you more Alexander?"Alexander's jaw clenched. "That's his strategy. He works in the shadows. He won't attack directly. He'll manipulate what people think. He'll spread doubt. He'll use truths and sneaky hints." He turned to Ben. "Ben, I need you to increase security. Not just for me. For Eleanor and especially for Leo. Check all our security. Assume every communication channel is compromised.""Consider it done Mr. Sterling " Ben r
