Flight To New York

Aria POVSaying goodbye to Nyra unsettled me far more than I expected. We had hugged before parting ways countless times over the years. She lived in Chicago while I stayed in Houston with her parents, so distance had always existed between us but this goodbye felt different because I belonged to the Viktor now. Then if the fragile peace between the Blacktop and the Diamond Syndicate shattered as everyone quietly expected it would, then seeing Nyra again might become impossible. So far Viktor had been nothing like the monster I’d prepared myself for but what if this calm version of him only existed while we remained surrounded by Diamond Syndicate soldiers and outsiders watching his every move? New York was his territory and once we arrived there, nobody would question him no matter what he did. What if the mask disappeared there? What if the coldness everyone whispered about finally surfaced once we were alone?I wrapped my arms tighter around myself as we crossed the private runway

Kozlov Mansion

Aria POVThe Kozlov mansion looked less like a home and more like a private kingdom hidden behind walls. The massive white estate stretched across the property with several separate wings branching from the main structure, each belonging to one of the brothers. The place was beautiful and tall windows reflected the fading evening light while marble steps and dark iron details gave the mansion a severe elegance. It was far too large and despite all the space surrounding us, I still wished there were more distance between me and Alexei.Just being near him made my nerves tighten instinctively.Sergei didn’t scare me nearly as much. He was reckless and sharp-tongued, but his danger can be managed. Tristan still seemed too young despite towering over me already.Alexei, however, felt different because he carried violence like second skin. The moment we entered the mansion, Sergei and Tristan disappeared toward separate parts of the house while Alexei headed elsewhere without a glance bac

Library

Aria POVI didn’t realize how openly I’d been staring at Viktor until his gray eyes lifted and locked onto mine and heat rushed instantly into my cheeks.I looked away so quickly my neck almost hurt, suddenly very aware of how obvious I must have been. There was something unnerving about him when he caught you watching him as if nothing escaped his notice for long. Before the awkwardness could completely swallow me, Viktor opened another set of doors and every thought vanished from my mind. The library stole the breath from my lungs, it was enormous. Two stories high, stretching deep into the back of the main wing like a hidden sanctuary carved out of the mansion.Towering shelves lined every wall from floor to ceiling, overflowing with books in dark leather bindings and worn paper covers. Soft golden light spilled from antique wall sconces, warming the dark wood and making the entire room glow faintly. For a second, I simply stood there speechless. My heart thudded painfully hard in

The Garden

Aria POVViktor watched me for another second after that almost-smile before stepping away from the bookshelf.“I’ll show you the gardens now,” he said calmly.I followed him out of the library, still trying to recover from the strange warmth that had briefly settled between us. As we walked through the quiet hallway, Viktor spoke again.“You can move freely around the estate,” he said. “But stay away from Alexei’s and Sergei’s wings.”“Especially Alexei’s.”I nodded immediately and that wouldn’t be difficult because avoiding Alexei already felt like basic survival instinct.“He won’t appreciate finding you in his territory,” Viktor added.“I have no intention of going near him,” I admitted honestly.A faint look of approval crossed Viktor’s face before disappearing again.“Tristan probably wouldn’t care if you entered his rooms,” he continued.“But he’s still a teenager.” His tone turned dry. “And a disgusting one.”I blinked.“What exactly does that mean?”“You’d see and smell thin

Gaming Room

Viktor POVAria kept stealing glances at me as we walked back into the gaming room.Every few seconds, I could feel her attention drift toward me before she quickly looked away again whenever I turned slightly in her direction. Aria studied me like she was trying to solve something impossible. The moment we entered the room, however, her focus shifted instantly because Alexei was already there. He stood near the punching bag in the center of the room wearing only black fight shorts, his skin gleaming faintly with sweat beneath the overhead lights. The chain holding the heavy bag rattled violently every time his fist or knee slammed into it and the impact echoed through the entire room.Alexei paused briefly when he noticed us entering. His sharp gaze slid over Aria for a second before he resumed his assault on the punching bag as though nothing had interrupted him.“I’m starving,” he muttered casually between strikes. “Let’s order pizza.”Beside me, Aria stiffened instantly, the reac

Sharing Pizza

Viktor POV We both knew what that meant. I returned to Aria side. She was biting her lip, and her body was tense. “So did you find a pizza you want?”“I’m not very hungry,” she said softly. “Is it okay if I only order a salad with cheese and olives?”“You can eat whatever you like and if you’re still hungry, you can have a piece of one of our pizzas,” I told her.She smiled. “Okay. Thanks.”Alexei stalked toward us and stopped beside me and Aria. “Ready to order?” he asked.“I will place the order, will Ivan be coming over?”“Yes. Aurora will spends the evenings with her useless mother.”Aria eyes widened and I wasn’t sure if it was the insult or because another man was joining us tonight.I picked up my phone and gave our favorite Russian restaurant a ring. Their pizzas were the best in town and we all got our usual orders, so the addition of a salad caused a bit of a stunned silence on the other end.“Why don’t you sit down? You can turn on the TV if you want. The food will be here

Aria Frustration

Viktor POVAlexei scowled as he grabbed another slice of pizza from the box, clearly irritated now.“Jesus Christ, Viktor,” he muttered darkly. “I’m getting sick of the constant flinching.”His sharp gaze slid toward Aria briefly before returning to me.“It’s fucking annoying,” he continued. “Especially when I haven’t even done anything to deserve it.” He leaned back against the couch with obvious irritation.“This is my house too and I’m not walking around like I’m defusing bombs because she can’t control herself.”The room fell quiet afterward and I looked toward Aria immediately. She sat stiffly at the edge of the sofa, shoulders tight and eyes lowered toward her plate.A few pieces of lettuce and shredded cheese had fallen onto her jeans when Alexei raised his voice, and now her trembling fingers hurried to gather them.My gaze lingered on her hands and eventually she rose slowly from the couch, avoiding everyone’s eyes.“Do you have a mop?” she asked softly. “I can clean this up.

Disklavier piano

Viktor POV “I can’t eat your pizza.”“We always share our pizzas and nobody will mind.”“I’m vegetarian and your pizzas all have some kind of meat on them,” she said.I hadn’t noticed that she hadn’t eaten meat at the wedding. “Next time we’ll order a vegetarian pizza for you.”She became tense as we stepped back into the gaming room, and her skin reddened in embarrassment but I led her back to the sofas and sat down beside Alexei so Aria didn’t have to.Alexei pretended he didn’t notice and kept watching the race on the screen. Aria squeezed my hand briefly before she released me and took a gulp from her orange juice.Ivan also gave me a look that probably understanding, though I wasn’t sure why but nobody mentioned Aria exit or her puffy eyes, and eventually she became more relaxed then watched the race with us.Her eyes started drooping but she didn’t get up because she probably wasn’t sure if she was allowed to leave, so I decided to make it easy for her. “Let’s go to bed,” I su

Babysitter

Aria POV My eyes darted to my left, where he stood, watching me with mild curiosity. He wore a black pants and a tight black T-shirt that exposed his tattooed arms and his hair was pulled back in a very short ponytail.I flushed and quickly stood. “I’m sorry. I should have asked before I started to play. I don’t even know if I’m allowed to.”He frowned and moved closer and didn’t stop despite my growing tension. He leaned against the piano, close but still more than an arm’s length away and his eyes scanned me from head to toe, but I forced myself to stand still, allowing him his appraisal because It was his privilege. Finally, his eyes met mine. “Why wouldn’t you be allowed to play the piano?” he asked. “I got it for you and it’s meant to be played.”“Thank you,” I said quietly. “You didn’t have to do this, it’s too expensive.”Viktor mouth twisted in dark amusement. “I didn’t, but I wanted to, and money isn’t an issue, Aria. We have more than we could ever spend.”I glanced back do

First Outing

Aria POVSergei gave an easy shrug as he leaned against the kitchen counter, twirling his car keys around one finger.“It’s basically all my brothers ever talk about,” he said lazily.“Weapons, territory, fights, money and enemies. That’s daily life around here.” His lips curved slightly.“Well, except for Tristan, his main hobby these days is sulking.”A laugh escaped me before I could stop it and for a second, Sergei simply stared at me, almost like he was trying to understand how someone like me could still laugh after everything that had happened then he pushed away from the counter.“Go wait outside in the driveway,” he said. “I’m grabbing a couple more guns, then we’ll leave.”I blinked after him in disbelief because he already had a holster strapped beneath his fitted black shirt. I’d noticed the outline of a knife earlier too, pressed against his ribs when he’d stretched.Apparently that wasn’t enough but I didn’t comment though. I was learning quickly that questioning the bro
