CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

~ZANDER~ I tensed up as soon as those words came out of my mouth.“You do?” She asked with her eyes wide. She looked like I had just uttered a blasphemy or something.I cleared my throat as I scratched the back of my neck.“I mean it's only proper if you wear it. It makes our fake relationship look more real, don't you think?” I asked knowing fucking well our fake relationship had nothing to do with me wanting to see her in my jersey, wearing my name and my number. The things that image did to me was so sinful that even I couldn't dare to say it out loud. The look on her face deemed slightly then she forced a fake smile on her face.“Oh… of course. That's more believable” She murmured and I had to bite back a smirk.Rhea was an open book with her emotions and she didn't know which made her all the more interesting.I pushed myself off the wall and leaned closer to her, watching as her eyes grew wide as she stared at me in shock and anticipation.Fuck, the sheer innocence missed with

CHAPTER THIRTY TWO

~RHEA~ I was awakened by the sound of my phone ringing and I've been trying my best to ignore it but whoever was calling was relentless. “For God's sake” I muttered before grabbing my phone from the night stand. It was Heather.“Isn't it too early to be calling me relentlessly?” I asked groggily as I rubbed my eyes with my fist.“Too early? Baby, we have a whole lot to teach you for tonight's game. We are coming over” She stated and I frowned as I slowly sat up straight.“What do you mean we?” I asked and there was a little shuffling on the other side.“Hey baby!” It was Aisha.“Hey… what's going on?” I asked, confused on why Heather and Aisha were together by this time.“I called Aisha and asked if she was willing to help prep you for tonight's game” Heather explained and I frowned.“Prep me for what exactly?” “We'll be there soon and I'll explain better. Just get your ass up from your bed and wish your man good luck before he leaves. You wouldn't see him again until the game”

CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

~RHEA~ I stared at the phone for a while and was just about to pick up when a knock at the door jolted me out of my seat.“Open up bitch!” I heard Heather's voice as I walked over to the door.“We brought goodies!” Heather said with an excited tone as she wiggled the shopping bags in front of my face.“I'm so sorry she dragged you into this" I said to Aisha as I lay them in.“Girl, I wanted to be here. It's been a while since I did something this exciting” Aisha said with a light squeal.“Heather, can you explain to me what this is about exactly?” I asked and she turned to me and grabbed my shoulders.“This is your first official game as Zander's girlfriend. You have to show up and show out” She said with a serious tone and I furrowed my eyebrows. “I don't understand…” “Everyone is going to be looking at you. Reporters, girls that wish to be in your place, everyone!” Aisha added.“I know you must be thinking you have experience because of Chase but you don’t. This is way more seri

CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR

~RHEA~I bit my lower lip as I tried to get closer to him, but Heather grabbed my wrist and pulled back.“What the hell is going on and what the fuck are you wearing?” She asked with a frown as Aisha jogged up and stood beside him with the same disapproving look on her face.I tore my eyes reluctantly away from Zander who had his jaws clenched and his eyes focused on the game happening in front of him.“I… I thought wearing something more eye-catching would make him see me easier” I explained to her and Heather stared at me in disbelief.“You know, if you weren't my best friend, I would have slapped you across the face” She stated and my eyes widened.“What…”“Look around, Rhea. Do you see anyone else in the crowd wearing that exact jersey he gave you?” She asked and I slowly raised my head and glanced around the crowd. My heart thumped as I realized my jersey had in fact been different and unique from everyone else's. “He customized it for you, Rhea,” Aisha added and I frowned.“I d

CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE

~RHEA~ “Are you sure you cannot go back to his dorm, Rhea?” Heather's voice snapped me out of my deep thoughts. We were currently in her dorm and I was seated on her bed with a pint of ice cream in my arms.“He said we are done, Heather. What do you think?” I whispered before dipping my spoon into the ice cream and taking a bite.“Rhea…”“I messed up, Heather. He hates me, more than he did before” I murmured and could feel the tears brimming in my eyes again.I had spent the last two hours crying over my foolishness after Zander walked out on me. It felt like a part of me had been ripped out.“He doesn't hate you, I don't think he ever did” She murmured softly and I scoffed.“I was the one staying with him, not you. He despises me and probably saw me as a burden” I murmured and she frowned.“Okay now you're just being dramatic” She pointed out then grabbed my hand and wiped away the tears on my cheek.“Yes, you messed up but there's no use crying over it. We should be thinking of

CHAPTER THIRTY SIX

~RHEA~ Heather plopped down beside me in the dining hall.“You look like shit” She commented and I scoffed.“I felt worse”Today has been super draining. After Zander walked out on me, the taunting had only gotten worse especially because Chase couldn't seem to get the hint and leave me alone.Heather suddenly gasped then grabbed my hoodie.“Who did this to you? Sienna? I swear, if I…”“It wasn't her and it doesn't even matter who it was” I said and she stared at me for a while then frowned.“This is really weighing down on you, isn't it?” She asked and I scoffed.“You have no idea” I whispered and she went quiet before moving closer.“Haven't you considered the fact that the reason this is weighing down on you this way is because you actually have feelings for him?” I tensed up at her words as my heart skipped a beat.“Don't be ridiculous…”“Am I? You've been mopping around since yesterday and don't you dare think I don't see the way you stare at the door, waiting for him to walk

CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN

~ZANDER~ “Have you guys seen the school board recently?” Daniel asked as he sat on the bench with Kai and I while Mason stood by the corner.“What's on the school board?” Kai asked. We were all currently at practice and the coach has been giving me the cold shoulder.Honestly, I didn't blame him because I was disappointed in myself too for losing focus on what mattered to me the most, which was hockey. Not anymore. I wasn't going to concern myself with anything that had to do with that woman.“Well aside from Zander and Rhea's breakup?” Daniel asked and I tensed at the mention of her name.“We don't talk about her, Daniel” Kai said with a warning tone beside me and I clenched my jaw.“Yeah… Right. Well, there are three major events happening soon on campus. No one knows whether it is but I have a feeling it's going to be wild” Daniel uttered with an excited grin.“When are these events happening?” Mason asked with a bored tone. He might even care less than I did.“One is happening a

CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT

~RHEA~ I watched as Zander walked away with a frown on my face.He was talking about me, I had read his lips.“Don't worry, you guys will be okay soon” Heather murmured as she stood beside me and I sighed as I recounted what we had just done.Like Aisha had suggested, we had gone to talk to coach. I could still remember the cold look he had given me as soon as we asked to talk to him.I had expected him to yell at me or blame me for everything that happened but when Aisha asked if I could come along on the team retreat, he was more than willing to let me go.“Zander changed the day you came into his life and he may not have seen it but I sure did. You made him calmer, more approachable”His words had surprised me because how had I changed Zander? He seemed more irritated when I was around, if anything.“If you coming for the Team retreat is going to bring That Zander back then by all means, you're free to join” His words echoed in my head as I watched Zander climb into his car. Wha

CHAPTER THIRTY NINE

~ZANDER~ “I said I'm not going, Kai” I muttered as I plopped down on my couch in my living room.“Oh you have to. This is our last party before we have to go for the team retreat, and I would really hate it if you and Mason haven't made up” He stated, and I raised an eyebrow.“Why do we need to make up? We are fine” I told him, and he rolled his eyes.“Sure. That's why you both spent the entirety of practice trying to kill each other” He pointed out, and I shrugged.“He was blocking my path…”“You knocked him to the ground several times despite him being on your team” Kai stated, and I tilted my head.“I still don't get what the problem is” I said calmly, and he sighed.“You know what? It's my fault. I shouldn't have brought that up or said that to rile Matteo and you up. It was uncalled for” He confessed, and I didn't refute his words.Maybe it was uncalled for, but it was necessary.“Please just come? Everyone is going to be there, and who knows, maybe you might catch feelings fo

CHAPTER FORTY

~RHEA~ The empty feeling that had bubbled up in my chest ever since Aisha's Fiance had said that didn't disappear. It only got worse with each breath I took.Heather's warm hand landed on mine, pulling me out of my thoughts. We were both seated at the back seat, headed towards the party.“Don't think too much about it. Zander is just angry, he'll get over it” She whispered and I forced a smile on my face before glancing out the window. What If he never got over it? What if he found some other woman to fake date or even really date her? I clenched my jaw as I fought back whatever emotion was clawing its way down my throat.Even if Zander wasn't there, I still planned to have fun.We got to the venue and like expected, it was swarming with cars and people. Since it was kind of a school event, a lot of things were limited like alcohol but some guys were still able to sneak some in.“I'll find out where the guys are so we'll go meet them” Her Fiance uttered and she shook Her head.“I
