It had been three years. Cecelia Wood was still as flawless as ever, her skin smooth as glass. That was what Donald had once said about her. He said he could not tear himself away from her. He said every time he slept with me, all he could think about was her.I left Donald so they could be together, and now she came after my second husband. She had his baby before I did. Judging from the curve of her stomach, their affair had clearly been going on for a while.I bit my lip, and my nails dug into my palm as I approached her."Yvonne!" Cecelia pretended to have just recognized me. She grabbed my hand and put on a surprised look. "I didn't think you'd come back to Imperia after leaving Porton. What are the odds! We have the same taste in men, huh?"I did not listen. My hand was already raised, and I swung it down. But instead of Cecelia, Shawn was the one who took the slap.He stood before her and covered his cheek. His face fell. "That's going too far! Two slaps is more than enoug

I was thunderstruck. The pain in my chest robbed me of air so quickly that I could barely breathe. When I opened my mouth, he clenched my chin."Do you like biting yourself that much? Cecelia's right. You really are having an affair with him."His fury burned right in front of me, stripped of all the warmth he used to show me. Blood trickled down the corners of my mouth. Everything was fading to black, and I fainted.…When I woke up, I found myself chained to a bed. Cecelia was right beside the bed, smiling as she served a hot brew."Shawn said you were too excited, so he wanted you to drink this."There was no one else in the room, so Cecelia no longer bothered pretending. She grabbed my hair and forced my head back.I held back the pain as much as I could and asked in a trembling voice, "I've always treated you well. Why…"She clenched my chin and suddenly burst into laughter. "Why? Because you're a fool! You're an idiot for so eagerly showing me kindness! I hate the arrogan

"Yvonne, please. Please give me another chance. I'd never hurt you again, I swear. I was a total idiot. Please, give me a chance, for old times' sake. We're childhood friends."Shawn was panicking. He crawled over to the bed and tugged on the blanket as he begged for another chance. It was funny because he didn't even have the courage to hold my hand. His tears only made me feel even more disgusted. "What a hypocrite. If you had kept a closer eye, Cecelia never could've had the chance to kill the baby. You knew our history, but still you hooked up with her. Don't call what you feel for me, love. If anything, it has to be hate. "After all, you chose to trust her, not me."No number of words could make up for what he did to me. Honestly, I shouldn't have expected anything from men. I shouldn't have relied on someone else to give me happiness.I got a divorce once, and I could do it again. So, I wiped the angry tears away and looked down at Shawn. "Enough talk. You and Cecelia alrea

It was a rainy day when it happened, when Shawn found me. I was on my recliner, my fingers caressing my cat's fuzzy ears."I've found you, Yvonne…" He was shivering from excitement, and he stood in the rain like some lost hero finally coming home after the war.Perhaps my serene response came from the fact that I had let the past go. His presence stirred nothing inside me, not even hatred. "Come in. You shouldn't stay out in the rain."He straightened and blurted eagerly, "Yes, of course!"…As Shawn dried his hair with a towel, he began thinking of what he should say. Finally, he said, "This is a tiny place. Come back to Imperia."I looked at this man, the one I used to love and hate. There was nothing but calm in my gaze as I replied blandly, "Yes, you have a big villa, but I found no happiness there. This place is small, but it's enough for me."Shawn's smile froze as panic swept through his eyes. "I know it's all my fault. I promise I'll repent my mistakes. I'll make it up t
