10. THE MONSTER IN THE DARK

🤍RAV🤍"And where do you think you are coming to this late?"Zoren's deep voice echoed in the darkness and I felt it in my bones. Not just in my ears. In my bones. In my spine. In the base of my skull. My hand was still frozen on the door handle. My feet were still glued to the floor just inside the doorway. I could not see a single thing in front of me except thick black darkness stretching out like the apartment had swallowed itself whole. He was not just a monster and he was not just a bastard. He was also a psycho. No doubt about that.A psycho who sat in the dark waiting for me to come home. A psycho who did not move or breathe loud enough for me to hear him. A psycho who had probably been sitting there for hours just waiting to pounce the moment I walked through that door."Coming back from work." My voice came out steady and low and masculine. I was proud of that. Inside I was shaking so hard I thought my knees might buckle and drop me to the floor right there in front of him.

11. FUCKING NAKED

🤍RAV🤍I clenched my fist so hard my nails bit into my palms and the sharp sting was the only thing keeping me grounded. My suppressant was already failing and I could feel it failing with every breath I took. The heat was creeping up my neck and spreading across my chest and my body was responding to his proximity in ways I could not control and if I did not get away from him soon everything was going to fall apart right here in this dark room with his crimson eyes fixed on my face. His nose flared. I saw it happen in real time. His nostrils widened and his pupils shifted and something flickered across his expression that I could not read. He could smell me and he did not know what he was smelling and that was the only thing keeping me alive because if he figured it out everything was over and my dream was dead and my family would be shamed and I would go to jail."I asked if you were deaf or dumb.""Neither, Captain." I replied through gritted teeth. My voice came out harder than I

12. THE CAPTAIN’S BIRD

🤍RAV🤍 I yanked the blanket up over my face so fast I nearly punched myself in the nose. The fabric covered my eyes completely, blocking out the image of Zoren Maveth standing in the middle of the room with water dripping down his body. He had no business being that shameless. He had no business walking around naked in a room he was sharing with another person. "Why are you acting like you don't have a dick?" His voice was flat and dry and I heard the scoff that followed it. My body heated up from my neck all the way to my face and I was grateful for the blanket covering me because my cheeks were definitely red and my expression was definitely not alpha-like. I tried to get the image of his monster out of my head but it was burned into my brain now and I would never be able to unsee it. "I bet it will be small like you." I heard the smirk in his voice without seeing it. The absolute nerve of this man. He was insulting my body while standing there naked and unbothered. I ke

13. I WANT HIM GONE

❄️ZOREN❄️"Bird for defender."The words left my mouth before I had fully decided to say them. The bird's face crumpled in disappointment right there in front of the entire gym. His shoulders dropped half an inch before he caught himself. His jaw tightened. His eyes flickered with something that looked a lot like dread.Oh. So he was avoiding playing on my team. The small alpha who had begged on his knees to stay in my school, who had promised to do anything I asked, was standing in that line praying I would not call his name. The realization sat in my chest like a stone.Earlier today I had not meant to come out of the bathroom naked. I had simply forgotten that I now shared my room with a bird. My mind had been elsewhere. It had been on the meeting later today with that old man. It had been on the phone call last night and the voice on the other end and the demands that never stopped coming. I had opened the bathroom door on autopilot. The bird had been lying on the floor with his e

14. THE IDIOT I CALL A FRIEND

❄️ZOREN❄️I did not bother going back to my dorm after Coach finished with his talks. I did not want to see the bird and I did not want to deal with whatever was happening to my body every time I got too close to that small alpha with the too-soft face and the too-warm eyes and the nosebleed he had been trying to hide on the bench. The image of him pressing his hand against his nose was still sitting in the back of my mind. His face had been turning red. His eyes had been watering. He had looked like he was about to collapse and he had still been standing there waiting for Coach to finish calling names.Rylan's apartment was on the other side of the academy and it was bigger than the other dorms because his father was one of the biggest shareholders. The sitting room had a leather couch that cost more than most students' tuition. The kitchen had a chiller stocked with drinks I did not bother to count. The whole place smelled like pizza and whatever cologne Rylan had decided to drown h

15. THE TUXEDO TRAP

🤍RAV🤍After the game ended I did not follow the rest of the team back to the locker room. The moment Coach Lawson dismissed us I ducked away from the crowd and I found the nearest bathroom. I locked myself inside a stall and I pressed my back against the cold metal door and I tried to remember how to breathe. The pheromones in that gym had been suffocating and they had been building since the moment the drills started. Every alpha in that room had been pumping out dominance and aggression and adrenaline and the air had been so thick with it that I could taste it on my tongue. My lungs had been working overtime trying to pull in oxygen that was not laced with alpha musk.My suppressants should have handled it and they had always handled it before and I had never had a problem standing in a room full of alphas as long as I took my pills on time and kept my scent blockers fresh. Today was different and I did not know why it was different. I was too scared to examine the reason too clos

16. DARK CHAINS

❄️ZOREN❄️I arrived at the mansion forty minutes after leaving Rylan's apartment. The gates opened before I touched the intercom. The driveway stretched long and dark between rows of bare trees that my mother had planted the year before she died. The fountain in the center was still running. She had loved that fountain. She used to sit beside it in the summers with her books and her tea and her soft humming that filled the garden.I had not been here since the night she died. I had not planned to ever come back. Every meeting with the old man had been online or at the school. He summoned me to the academy office when he wanted something. He called my phone when he wanted to remind me of my obligations. I had kept my distance for three years. I had kept my sanity for three years. Now I was back. The gates had closed behind me. There was no turning around. The entrance still smelled faintly of roses. The staff had never changed the fragrance my mother loved. Every time I walked through

17. BEHIND THE TUX

🤍RAV🤍I stared at the tuxedo for what felt like an eternity. The tuxedo stared back at me from where it lay across Zoren's massive black bed. The garment bag was crumpled on the floor. The silver zipper glinted under the bedroom lights. The black fabric was expensive and the stitching was perfect and the cut was designed for someone with broad shoulders and a flat chest and narrow hips. I had none of those things. No amount of binding was going to change the shape of my bones.Time was running out. I could not stand here forever and I could not skip the banquet or pretend to be sick. Attendance was mandatory. Coach Lawson would notice if I did not show up. My name was on the list. My face was expected. If I disappeared tonight, questions would follow. Questions I could not afford to answer. Questions that would unravel everything.I stripped off my big shirt and I let it fall to the floor. The air hit my skin and I shivered even though the room was not cold. I unwrapped my bindings

18. HE IS GETTING ENGAGED?!

🤍RAV🤍He said it like it was nothing and he said it with that same easy smile and I could not tell if he was flirting or if this was just how he talked to everyone. My face heated up and the warmth spread down my neck. I turned away from him and I stared at the back of the seat in front of me. I did not know how to respond and I did not want to respond. I hoped the bus would arrive soon so I could escape this conversation and escape his eyes."Listen up fellas." Coach Lawson's voice cut through the noise and the bus went quiet. He stood at the front with one hand on the rail. His tuxedo was slightly too small for his frame and the buttons strained across his stomach. "I need y'all to be on your best behavior tonight. The chairman will be bringing a special guest.""Hope the special guest doesn't have crimson eyes." Theron joked and the bus erupted in laughter. The sound bounced off the windows and filled the cabin.“Behave yourself Blake.” Coach Lawson warned him. I felt the weight

19. THE UNWANTED FIANCÉE

❄️ZOREN❄️The ballroom doors opened and every camera in the room exploded with flashes so bright they turned the world white for a full second.Sapphire slipped her hand around my arm before we stepped inside and her fingers were cold even through the fabric of my tuxedo. Her grip was too tight and too possessive. My jaw locked in response. I looked down at her hand for a moment before looking away because staring at it too long would make me want to remove it and removing it would create a scandal and that old man would find another way to make me pay.People were clapping before we even reached the center of the room. Smiling faces turned toward us from every direction. Congratulations floated through the air like poison wrapped in silk. Sapphire was enjoying every second of it. She smiled for every camera and she waved at every guest. She leaned toward me more than once and her breath was warm against my ear when she whispered that I should at least pretend to enjoy myself.I answ
