Alexander did not flinch as he met Vito’s cold, unblinking glare. He stood tall in the doorway, quietly pulling the heavy oak door shut behind him until the latch clicked soft and secure, sealing the bedroom off from the hallway. "She is sleeping," Alexander said, his voice dropping into a low, quiet murmur. Vito did not move an inch from the wall. He stood with his heavy boots planted wide, his tactical vest still dusted with salt crust from the sea, and his arms crossed tight over his chest.
