The alarm on my nightstand blared loudly, tearing us both from sleep. We sat up at the exact same moment."Morning, bestie," Janice mumbled beside me, rubbing her eyes before instantly disappearing into the bathroom. I hummed a groggy response in return. She popped her head out a moment later, wrapped in a towel. "Is your spare school uniform still available?""Yes, it is," I told her. She disappeared back inside to take a shower while I rummaged through my wardrobe. I found the uniform and laid it out on the bed right next to mine. She was done in no time, and I quickly took my turn in the shower. We hurriedly dressed and headed downstairs for breakfast, where my mom had prepared scrambled eggs with toast. We ate in comfortable silence before heading off to school."Your parents are so sweet, Kat," Janice said, keeping her eyes on the road as she drove. "I wish I had that too," she added, a faint hint of sadness lacing her voice."You know you’re always welcome to stay at my pl

"I called your dad, love," he repeated smoothly.I stood frozen in the middle of my room, plunged into absolute shock. "How? You literally just invited me to your house! When on earth did you find the time to call my dad?""I dialed his number the exact second I dropped you off," Ethan replied, his tone dripping with effortless confidence. "Actually, I’m already on my way back to get you. Pack your bags, Kattie. I'm almost there."Before I could even open my mouth to protest, the line went dead.I stared at my phone in disbelief, quickly finished off my biscuits, and rushed upstairs to pack. I dragged my vacation suitcase out of the closet and laid it flat across the mattress. Just as I unzipped it, my phone vibrated violently against the nightstand. It was Janice."Hi, girl," she mumbled. Her voice was uncharacteristically heavy and laced with a thick, sad tone."What's wrong, Janice?" I asked immediately, sitting down on the edge of the bed."It's Brandon," she said, sniffin

We got up and left the room as Ethan led me to his grand dining room. He pulled out a chair for me, sliding into the seat right beside me as the private chef served the food. "It smells really nice," I said, offering a warm smile to the chef. "Thank you, Donna," the man replied with a respectful nod before quietly leaving us to eat. "Donna?" I repeated, turning to face Ethan as he began eating. "What?" he asked, his mouth slightly full. "Why did he just call me Donna?" I asked him, genuinely confused. "Because this is my house and I'm the Don. You're my girlfriend, which makes you the Donna," he said, chuckling softly. "But from what I know, a Don is a mafia lord," I told him, tilting my head. Ethan let out a rich, deep laugh, putting down his fork. "What? You think I'm part of the mafia?" I looked at his flawless, handsome face and suddenly burst into laughter. "Of course not. You don't look like you can even hold a gun." "You'd be surprised," he said so

We finally arrived at the resort. Ethan drove right past our school bus, which was parked near the lower campsite, and pulled through the grand gates heading straight for the VIP parking lot. Everywhere I looked was absolutely stunning; it was a massive, elegant building with a gorgeous luxury pool stretching out along the side. Felix and Janice were already waiting for us. Janice was standing right by her luggage, while Felix was busy scrolling away on his phone.Ethan hopped out of the driver's seat, but before he could even walk around to open the passenger door for me, I unbuckled and hopped out on my own. My independence immediately earned me a sharp frown from him."Why did you do that?" he asked, crossing his arms.I just rolled my eyes at him, completely ignoring the question as I walked past him toward Janice."Hey, girl!" she yelled, rushing toward me as we wrapped each other in a tight hug. She pulled back, looking behind my shoulder at Ethan. "What's with the long fac

I woke up to the soft sound of a knock on the heavy wooden door. Slowly blinking my eyes open, I saw Ethan already moving across the room toward it."Good morning, Mr. Vance," one of the resort staff members greeted politely as she walked in carrying a large silver tray of food."Morning. Just drop it on the table over there," he instructed calmly. She nodded respectfully, but as she turned around, her eyes caught mine lying on the bed. She offered a warm, polite smile. "Good morning, ma'am.""Good morning," I managed to reply, giving her a small smile before she bowed and walked out, closing the door behind her."Morning, baby," Ethan murmured smoothly as he walked over to the side of the bed, leaning down to press a soft kiss against my forehead."Mmmm," I hummed quietly, my gaze dropping to my hands as I nervously picked at my fingers."What's wrong?" he asked suddenly, his eyebrows knitting together in immediate confusion. "Are you still in pain? The heating belt arrived w
