The weekend flew by in a blur of pure bliss as we rekindled our fire, spent lazy hours together, and exchanged quiet, breathtaking promises of forever.By Sunday evening, reality began to creep back in. I stood in front of the full-length mirror in my room, gathering my hair into a high ponytail and getting ready to head back to my apartment for classes the next day. Reflected behind me, Ethan lay propped up on the bed, watching every move I made with a lazy, affectionate smile."I'm going to miss you, babe," he said softly, his voice a deep, gravelly purr.I turned around to face him, my heart swelling. "I'm going to miss you too." I smiled, gesturing toward the door. "Now get up and drop me off."Ethan sluggishly swung his legs over the edge of the mattress, walking up behind me until he was right in my space. He wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his chin on my shoulder."You're so beautiful, Katie Berry," he murmured, his breath warm against my cheek."I know," I repl

"What?" I asked, my hand instinctively coming up to rub the back of my neck."You heard me," Ethan said, his face completely serious, without even a trace of a smile."Why do you want me to move in with you?" I asked, searching his dark eyes for an answer. The sternness on his face finally melted, replaced by a warm, breathtaking smile. "Because I love you so much, Kat, and I want to be by your side at all times," he said, reaching out to wrap his hands around mine."But Janice is going to be here all alone," I argued softly, feeling a sudden pang of guilt."Janice will be fine, Kat. I'm sure she already knows anyway," he replied calmly.I frowned, thoroughly confused. "What do you mean?""I told Felix about it, so he must have mentioned it to her," Ethan explained smoothly. "She probably hasn't said anything to you yet because she's waiting for you to bring it up first."I nodded slowly, processing his words. "Are you sure we're not rushing things, Ethan?"He shook his head

"Who is it?" Ethan asked, with his hands still resting on my waist."Food is ready, sir," the chef said respectfully from behind the door."Thank you, set the table," he said before turning to me. "Let's go eat, love," he said as we got up and he held my hand. When we reached the dining table, he pulled out a chair for me, and I sat down as we began eating. He had pasta instead, which was his favorite meal, while I ate my seasoned beef in peace and quiet. A maid then walked in holding a small paper bag."Good day, sir and ma'am," she greeted, and I smiled at her slightly."Here's what you asked for, sir," she said, dropping the bag on the table. Ethan nodded, and she left the room.I suddenly stopped eating as I eyed the bag, knowing its exact contents."Why are you not eating?" Ethan asked, smiling slightly."Nothing, I'm full," I lied as I drank some water."Easy, love," he said calmly, but I didn't respond. We finished eating and headed upstairs. He handed the bag to me o

"Mom?" Ethan said slowly in shock as Eleanor smiled and approached us."Congratulations, sweetie," she said, pulling me into a warm hug."Thank you, Eleanor," I said as we broke the hug, and she pouted playfully."You didn't even invite me," she said, holding my hands."I'm so sorry, Eleanor, I got carried away," I told her, and she nodded forgivingly."Are these your parents?" she asked, gesturing toward my mom and dad, and I nodded."Hello," she waved at them. "I'm Eleanor, Ethan's mom.""Hello, Eleanor," my mom said, smiling."It's nice to meet you," my dad added."Yes, it's nice to meet the person who raised such a sweet boy," my mom said as Eleanor smiled proudly, running her fingers through Ethan's hair."I know, he's a true gentleman," she said. "Oh, Janice and Felix!" she suddenly called out, pointing toward Janice and Felix, who were giggling about something a short distance away, completely oblivious to her presence. "Felix!" Eleanor called out louder. They both

The heavy silence in the bedroom felt suffocating as I locked the door behind me, leaning against it while the hot, frustrated tears finally spilled over my cheeks. His sharp words What is wrong with you? echoed in my mind, stinging far worse than the suddenness of his outburst. For months, I had tried to balance the blinding lights of our glamorous life with the dark, terrifying undercurrents of his family's world. I had smiled beside Eleanor, danced at Janice's engagement, and accepted lavish gifts, always pushing the nagging dread to the back of my mind. But hearing him argue with his father like that slammed me right back into the reality that no amount of diamond necklaces or quiet estates could insulate us from the syndicate.Outside in the hallway, I heard heavy, measured footsteps approach our door."Kat," Ethan's voice was low, laced with raw urgency, muffled by the wood. "Open the door, please. Let me talk to you.""Go away, Ethan," I choked out, my voice trembling as I
