Lori“What on earth have I gotten myself into?” I muttered into my palms, covering my face in literal shame. If Ann handled this news so fiercely, even though she wasn’t the one affected in any way, how would Jessica feel? Hurt? Entirely betrayed? The weight of it pressed down on my lungs. To think that I had actively lied to her face, pretending my Lucas was someone else entirely. We had even sat on our living room floor, comparing our two Lucases while she gushed about her crush. The guilt was suffocating.I sat completely still on the edge of the mattress, imagining how the confrontation would play out. Would she yell at me first? Or maybe she would just laugh it off initially, thinking that I was playing a sick joke on her?Lucas’s incoming call buzzed in my hand, cutting through the heavy silence of my room.“Hi…” I murmured into the receiver, my voice tight.“Hey. You don’t sound we

Lori“Then I just keep trying until I get it. Resilience is also one of the great beauties of life,” Lucas replied, his voice dripping with confidence. Before I could say another single word to counter his headstrong opinion, he leaned across the small counter and slanted his lips firmly over mine. A sudden, electric shiver ran straight down my spine, causing my fork to slip from my fingers and clatter onto the plate.Lucas broke the intense kiss just long enough to walk around the kitchen island. Without warning, he wrapped his strong arms around my waist and scooped me right off the barstool. He captured my mouth again, continuing to kiss me deeply as he carried me straight into his bedroom. He dropped me gently onto the middle of the mattress and immediately climbed on top of me. The kiss deepened into something wild and demanding while his large hands roamed freely over my body, leaving hot trails of burning heat against my bare

LoriWe stepped out of the dorm into the cool evening air, making our way down the paved sidewalk toward the campus dining square.“Make sure you come back with a clean conscience, Lor!” Ann screamed after us from the doorway, her bitter voice echoing down the hall before the front door slammed shut.Jessica turned her head toward me, her brow furrowed deep in confusion. “Okay, seriously, Lor… is it just my imagination, or is Ann acting weird toward you today?”“She is,” I confessed, giving a solemn nod as I kept my eyes fixed on my shoes. “And her terrible mood has everything to do with what I am about to tell you.”“Scratch that,” Jessica sighed, wrapping her sweater tighter around her shoulders. “Honestly, both of you are acting completely bizarre right now. It’s making me super uncomfortable.”We continued walking in silence toward the outdoor dessert plaza. When we reached the brightly lit ice cream s

LoriI blinked my eyes open the next morning to find Lucas sitting on the edge of the mattress, staring down at me as if I were a lost puppy he had just recently found. Even though my heart still ached with a heavy pain from crying myself to sleep all night, a small smile pulled at my lips the second my eyes met his.“Morning, babe,” Lucas murmured softly, his voice a low rumble in the quiet bedroom. “Did you manage to sleep well?”I nodded slowly against the pillow, my throat so tight and dry that I was still trying to find my voice.“I didn’t know you wanted to spend the night here,” Lucas added, a light chuckle escaping him as he reached down to brush a stray strand of hair away from my face. “I was a little bit surprised when I came back from therapy and found you curled up under my blankets.”His warm hand rested gently against the side of my head, his fingers caressing my hair in a rhythmic motion t

LoriJessica folded her arms tightly across her chest the moment she stepped through the door which made my stomach drop. I knew right then that this nightmare was far from over.Still, desperation drove me forward. I turned to face her, my voice small and trembling. “Jess? Can we please just talk?”The look she shot me was cold enough to freeze the blood in my veins. Shock spiraled through my body at the hatred radiating from her eyes.“Talk about what?” Jessica asked, her voice dangerously flat. “Wasn’t I clear enough yesterday when I told you that I will never, ever forgive you?”“Tell her, Jess!” Ann pitched in loudly, rushing over to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jessica like a united front. “I’ve been trying to tell these two that their stupid little explanation is practically useless! You aren't going to listen to a single word of it!”“Why should I even listen to anything this backstabbing bitch has t
