Semua Bab Between Two Brothers: The Billionaire DNA Match: Bab 21 - Bab 30

[Elias]Emily Matthews is uncomfortable around me. Not intimidated, not nervous, but uncomfortable; sometimes it even looks like fear. And for some reason, it irks me.It’s subtle enough that most people wouldn’t notice. To anyone, she appears professional, quiet, and efficient - different in the way that employees often are with executives they don’t want to offend. But I notice the patterns; I always have.I see it in the way she regulates her breathing when I’m near, like she’s counting each exhale. In the way her shoulders tighten whenever I enter a room. In how she avoids eye contact as though I were the devil himself. And when we touch accidentally or inevitably… she flinches. That bothers me more than it should because I barely even know the woman, and yet she acts like I'm the plague. To others, it might look like she’s just being respectful or polite, but I'm good at reading people, and the way she behaves around him isn't normal, even if I'm now her boss.I've been feared be

[Emily]The moment the elevator doors opened, I literally ran out as though my butt was on fire. The hallway felt like air after being underwater for so long.I walked a few steps before I realised that I had been holding my breath and forced myself to exhale. My face felt warm, my neck tight, and my thoughts annoyingly loud.Oh my gosh. What had happened in there?I looked down at my left hand that had touched… no, no, I didn't want to think about it.Instead, I adjusted the strap of my bag on my shoulder and kept walking, focusing on the steady click of my heels against the floor. But still the sensation lingered. It had been unwanted, irritating and embarrassing, the way my hand had landed on it when I'd tried to steady myself. And I'd unintentionally squeezed it!! Good Lord! How could I have touched that? I could barely look him in the eyes as it is; now this?It had been an accident, but it didn't make it any less mortifying or gross, especially because it was him, the man I want

[Emily]I was breaking that promise because I had no other alternative.I rush through the lobby with Hayden clinging to my hand. He's quieter than usual, his eyes sleepy, his cheeks still pink.I spot old Billy near the cleaning supplies room, trying to push a cart, but his potbelly is in the way."Emily!" He calls out, eyebrows lifting when he sees Hayden. "What's the little man doing here?"I swallow. "He caught the flu. Billy, can you look after him for me?"His face softens immediately. "Say no more. Have you forgotten I used to watch over him when he was this little?" His hands point to his knee as if to show how little he was.I let out a small smile and kneel in front of Hayden. "Baby, you're going to stay with Uncle Billy for a bit, okay?"Hayden frowns. "Why can't I stay with you?""Because mommy has to work," I say gently. "But I'll come back as soon as I can."He looks like he wants to argue, but he's too tired. Old Billy crouches beside him. "I've got you, champ. You like

[Emily]   "Axel," I repeated, like saying his name out loud would confirm he was real and not some hallucination my overworked brain had cooked up. His smile softened, like he found my disbelief endearing. "Yes," he said. "Axel." My cheeks were still warm, and I could feel the pulse in the most ridiculous places. I forced myself to inhale slowly, like I was trying to talk my nervous system off a ledge. "Thank you," I said, because I wasn't sure what else to say. "For what?" he asked, amused "For… not laughing at me," I admitted. Axel's brows lifted. "Why would I laugh at you?" Because I just stuttered like a teenager meeting her celebrity crush, I thought. Instead, I said, "Because I'm a little starstruck." "I'm

[Emily]"You've surprised me a lot today, Ms Matthews. I didn't know you could smile or laugh like every other human being," he snarled. I looked up at him in surprise. As commanding as he was, he had never spoken to me with clear irritation in his voice before."I don't understand what you mean, Sir," I said, wiggling my arm so he'd let go of it.He didn't reply; instead, he pulled me, not roughly, but guided me like a piece of furniture, toward a less crowded corner of the auditorium. The lights were dimmer there, and I was starting to get scared. He still hadn't let go of my hand. Why was he still holding my hand?!"Drop the act, Emily," he spoke abruptly, startling me. What was going on? I was so confused by this exchange that it didn't register in my head that he'd just called me by first name. For the very first time."I don't understand what you're getting at, sir." The 'sir' had a certain edge to it, one that showed how reluctant I was to let the single word out. Seriously, wh
