Through the camera mounted in the corner of the cellar ceiling, Lorenzo could see every bit of my misery. He sat in his study, his black suit immaculate, the family ring on his finger tapping lightly against the desk.Sal stood at his side and lowered his voice. "Sir, should we let Miss Moretti out? She's in bad shape."Lorenzo looked up."She made the Rossi girl bleed."His voice was cold, without a flicker of feeling."She comes out the moment she's willing to admit her fault. Not before."On the third day, the iron door finally opened. When the harsh light poured in, I could barely stand. My knees were weak, my throat as dry as if I'd swallowed sand.Lorenzo stood in the doorway, Bianca on his arm.The cut on her face had been carefully tended, a white bandage against her skin that only made her look more like a flower everyone needed to protect. She came to me first, a faint smile on her lips."Anna, don't blame me. I already told him the cut wasn't deep and wouldn't scar, but Lore

After three days of rest, I still went to the Vitali family's port office. The office sat by the old docks, shipping containers and wet ropes piled up beyond the windows. Every shipping route here, every ledger, I knew better than anyone. But when I pushed the door open, Bianca was sitting in my chair. She wore a white dress, my file box set by her feet. When she saw me come in, she smiled and lifted her chin."Lorenzo says that starting today, I'll be taking over the routes, the winery, and the casino accounts you handled. You can go back to the estate and get ready for the wedding."I froze for a few seconds. Then I turned and went to Lorenzo's office. He was standing by the window, smoking, the haze blurring his profile."You're sure you want her taking over everything I do?"Lorenzo brushed it off."The Rossi family will pass to her sooner or later. She needs the experience."He stubbed out his cigarette and looked back at me."You'll come back after the wedding."I took a deep bre

I don't know how long I slept. When I woke, Marco Ferrara was sitting by the hospital bed, still holding my fingertips. He'd fallen asleep against the back of the chair, his suit jacket draped to one side, his shirt cuffs rolled up to reveal an old scar on his wrist.I tried to sit up, and the slight movement woke him.Marco steadied me at once, propped me against the headboard, and brought a cup of warm water to my lips."Lorenzo's outside."His voice was low and steady."Do you want to see him?"I lowered my eyes."I don't want to waste time on strangers."The words had barely left me when Lorenzo's voice came from outside, straining to hold back his anger."Let me in. I'm Anna's fiancé."The two men guarding the door didn't move an inch.Lorenzo didn't dare force his way in, and could only knock on the door again and again from the corridor. With Marco supporting me, I walked to the door. The moment it opened, Lorenzo looked at me with red-rimmed eyes."Come back with me now."I lif

Lorenzo finally couldn't hold back and rushed forward. His eyes were bloodshot."Anna, you're my wife! Our wedding is almost here!"Crack! The old Don's whip came down hard across his back. The pain drove Lorenzo to his knees."Father..."The old Don struck him with the whip again."You lost Miss Moretti yourself."A stack of documents was thrown down in front of him."You handed the accounts she managed to the Rossi family's little Principessa. In just one week, the casino was down thirty million, and the port lost two routes."Lorenzo went pale.He snatched up the documents and tore them apart, all but crawling on his knees to me."I don't believe you can throw away three years of love just like that."He looked at Marco, his eyes full of jealous hatred."How long has he even been around you ?"I laughed lightly and laced my fingers through Marco's."Fifteen years."Lorenzo went completely rigid."Impossible."He shook his head."I looked into you. You grew up in an orphanage. There
