LUCASWhen Dad texted me that morning saying he was in Monteview for work and asking if we could meet for coffee, my first instinct had been to ignore it.It would’ve been easier. Less complicated. But eventually, after staring at the message for almost an hour, I’d capitulated and I’d replied reluctantly with ‘Sure’.Which was how I now found myself pushing open the glass doors off a quiet café a few blocks away from campus. The warm scent of roasted coffee beans wrapped around me immediately.Soft music drifted through the hidden speakers. Students sat with laptops open, people talked quietly over their mugs of coffee, and sunlight poured through the large windows overlooking the street.Dad was already there. He stood the moment he saw me.“Lucas.”He gave me his familiar warm smile as I allowed myself to take him in.With his dark hair, now sprinkled with a little bit of grey, and his tall, lean frame, a lot of people would refer to him as handsome.Unfortunately, I hadn’t taken a

LUCASHe gasped into my mouth, his body locking up instantly. I could feel the tension in his muscles. He was stiff, almost frozen. He didn’t lean in, but he didn’t pull away either. His fingers curled tightly into the fabric of my jacket, gripping me with a desperation that contradicted his frozen posture. He remained rigid, his lips pressed tight as if he could physically lock out the desire I knew was simmering beneath the surface. But I knew his breaking point. I’d learned enough that first night.I pressed closer, molding my body to his, letting him feel exactly how much I wanted him right there, in the middle of his sterile, professional sanctuary.I shifted the angle, my tongue tracing the seam of his lips with a slow, teasing pressure. I felt a shudder ripple through him, and then, finally, the dam broke.Adrian let out a soft, broken moan that vibrated against my mouth. His lips parted as he invited me in.The moment he gave in, everything changed. The stiffness vanished, rep

ADRIANDaniel was already seated in a booth in the café when I arrived.“There he is.” He raised his coffee in greeting when he spotted me. “The man who cancels plans every other week.”“I’ve only canceled twice.”“That’s two times too many.”“It’s not my fault my work schedule doesn’t align with yours,” I said as I settled across from him in the booth. He’d already ordered for me. A steaming mug of espresso. As usual, he knew what I liked. He grinned. “As long as you know my worth. You’re not the only one who’s busy.”An hour later, we’d moved from catching up to talking about work.Daniel leaned back. “Is there anything you want to tell me?”I tilted my head. “What do you mean?”“I know that face. It’s the one that says something is weighing on your mind.”“To be fair, something is always weighing on my mind.”“Exactly.” He tilted his head as he studied me carefully. “So what is it this time?”I stirred my coffee. “I did something…” I searched for the right words. “...that I should

ADRIANI’d been in a lot of stressful and awkward situations in my life but this had the possibility of topping the cake. And that was saying a lot, considering I’d seen my then fiancé on top of someone else on his office table.I’d been on edge since the time I received that text from Dylan where he’d alluded to knowing something about Lucas.A million thoughts were running through my head like, what did he know exactly? How much did he know? Did he tell someone else about it?He’d suggested coming to my house to clarify his text but I’d said no immediately. After everything that had happened, I didn’t want him inside my home again.I needed a clear head for the tough conversation I knew we were about to have.On the other hand, this seemed like a conversation that needed to be had in private. So when he’d texted me an address and asked to meet, I’d reluctantly agreed. Now, standing outside his apartment, I wondered if I’d made a mistake. It’s fine, I tried to reassure myself. I wasn

LUCASI told myself I wasn’t going to show up to Adrian's apartment. Even repeated it to myself several times this morning as I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror while brushing my teeth. But come on… I thought we all knew by now that I had no modicum of self-control.Especially when it came to Adrian Frost.Which was why I wasn’t surprised when I ended up standing in front of his door, a paper bag from the bakery down the street dangling through my fingers.Inside were two cinnamon rolls.Because apparently Adrian had succeeded in turning me into the type of idiot who bought breakfast for a man that wanted nothing to do with me.Or at least, that was what he told himself.I buzzed his apartment.I waited but no response came.So I buzzed again.Still nothing. It was then that a sliver of worry slithered its way in.Shit. What if he wasn’t home? But then again, Adrian seemed like the type to be at home on a Saturday morning. This was why it was important for me to get his
