Nina's POV“I can’t believe Damian is actually married to that fat pig,” Someone giggled behind me at the funeral but I ignored them. I was already used to such comments, and besides, I was here to bury the only person in this family who ever cared about me, and that was where my focus needed to stay. The worst thing I could have ever imagined had already happened to me, so what did I care about a few nasty comments? At least, that was what I thought before my husband suddenly divorced me a few hours later. We had just returned from Grandfather’s funeral… the only man in the entire aristocratic Knight family who had ever looked at me with a shred of genuine kindness and now my chest was hollow, from grief. But as soon as I stepped over the threshold of the grand mansion, a thick stack of papers was violently slapped against my chest before I could even close the door behind me.I gaped in shock, and watched, as the white papers slipped from my damp coat and scattered across the da

Damian's POVI still couldn't shake the image of Nina falling to her knees on the cold marble floor, with tears streaming down her pale face as she begged me for a single week.To be honest, the sight had disgusted me, but more than that, it had pissed me off because it was exactly what Vivian had warned me would happen. Before she even boarded her flight back to the country, Vivian had given me a clear heads-up over the phone. “Nina is a master of emotional manipulation, Damian,” she had told me. “The second she feels cornered, she’ll turn on the waterworks. She’s a lazy, fat gold digger who uses her pitiful appearance to trick kind-hearted people into feeling sorry for her.”And I had believed every single word because My grandfather had been the ultimate victim of her little innocent act, ultimately forcing me into a marriage with a woman who didn't even fit the elite social standards of my world. Every time I took Nina to high-profile corporate galas, her heavier figure and plain

Nina’s POVI stared at him, my brain completely short-circuiting. "What?"Before I could process the words, he closed the distance and pulled me into a tight, crushing embrace. He buried his face in my hair, holding me so fiercely it took my breath away. For the first time in my entire life, someone was hugging me because they were terrified of losing me—not because they pitied me, not because they wanted me to clean their house, and completely unbothered by my size. He held my curvy frame as if I were the most precious, fragile treasure on earth.A second later, the younger brother practically lunged forward, throwing his arms around both of us, openly sobbing against my shoulder."We found you," the younger one cried, his voice muffled against my coat. "Oh my god, Nina. We’ve searched for you for twenty long years.""I don't... I don't understand," I choked out, tears suddenly blinding my own vision as they finally let me go just enough to look at them. "I'm not a hidden heiress, I’m

Damian's POVThe elevator ride soon ended, the doors sliding open when I reached the ground floor. I stepped out, turning to my right to walk down the hallway, till I finally reached the exit.I strode out of the building to head towards the parking garage, my chauffeur rushing to catch up with me.“Sir…”I was already reaching for the door handle to unlock the car myself when he got closer.“Let me have the key.” I cut him off mid-sentence.He was hesitant at first, not until I gave him a hard stare before he finally handed me the keys.“But sir, why not allow me to do my job? After all, you pay me.” He said to me, who completely ignored him.I inserted the key into the keyhole and pulled the car door open, getting behind the steering wheel. While I slammed the door shut, I started the engine, zooming off to the hospital. The journey seemed longer, with every red traffic light feeling like another obstacle in my way. But anyway, I soon reached the hospital, where I parked my car behi
