Semua Bab The Day I Passed the Bar, He Sent Me to Prison: Bab 1 - Bab 10

"Exactly what I said."Lucas slipped the lighter back into his pocket with deliberate ease."Alex handed you over to me to take the fall. But I've changed my mind. Keeping a dog that knows how to bite might be a lot more interesting."I stared at him, every nerve on edge, my mind racing.Lucas had a reputation throughout New York's upper crust for being completely unpredictable. He did whatever amused him, with no rules and no limits."What do you want from me?" I swallowed my humiliation and asked, my voice hoarse."Simple." Lucas gripped my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze. "From this moment on, you belong to me."So long as you do exactly what I say, I'll hire the best criminal defense lawyer in New York to clear your name. I'll also assume full financial responsibility for your grandmother's care and make sure she remains at the hospital."I had no choice. My grandmother was the only family I had left. I couldn't watch them throw her out of the hospital."Fine. I'll do it."A sati

Alex was practically screaming on the other end of the line."Don't think hiding behind Lucas makes you untouchable! We've run into a little problem with the firm's trust accounts and tax filings. Federal investigators are already digging into it."He paused, then lowered his voice."You've suffered enough, haven't you? Just step in and take the fall. Tell the investigators you falsified the books and misappropriated the client funds yourself."Once this blows over, I'll let you come back as my assistant. I'll even put in a good word for you with Claire so she'll forgive you."His shamelessness was so staggering that I couldn't even find the energy to be angry. It was simply absurd."Alex, do you really think I exist just to take the fall for you and Claire?""What the hell are you talking about!" Alex roared through the phone. "This is your only chance to clear your name! Your reputation's already destroyed. Who else is going to hire you besides me?""Eileen, you should be grateful. I

"You... how did you find out?"I straightened up and looked down at him without a trace of emotion."Nothing stays buried forever. You really thought deleting the evidence meant I'd never find it?"I pulled a silver-encrypted drive from my pocket and waved it in front of his eyes."Alex, in these three years, how many shady cases did you hand me to handle? Did you really think I was just some idiot who fetched your coffee?"Alex's gaze was glued to the drive. Then he lunged at me like a madman."Give me that! Hand it over!"He never even got close before a bodyguard kicked him across the room. He slammed into the marble reception desk before collapsing to the floor, clutching his chest and groaning in pain.Claire's face went white as she stumbled backward."Eileen, don't you dare! I'm the daughter of Harrison Group's chairman and a senior executive! If you lay a finger on me, the board and the family lawyers will never let you get away with it!"I turned to her with a faint smile."Th

Three months later.Under my leadership, Dawn Law Firm had not only purged every last remnant of Alex's corruption but had also won several high-profile commercial cases that shook New York's elite circles.I was no longer the assistant everyone looked down on. I had become one of New York's most sought-after lawyers. And the case against Alex and Claire had finally reached its verdict. As both a victim and one of the prosecution's key witnesses, I attended the public hearing. At the defense table, Alex was almost unrecognizable. He wore a prison uniform, his head shaved close, his eyes vacant and hollow. The impeccably dressed, arrogant attorney who had once looked down on everyone was gone.Claire was in even worse shape. Word was that she couldn't handle the conditions in jail and had begun to suffer a mental breakdown. She spent most of her time muttering to herself. When the judge began reading the sentence, the courtroom fell completely silent."The defendant, Alex Walker, is fou

One year later.Dawn Law Firm had become one of the most prestigious law firms in New York.As for me, I was no longer the assistant everyone pushed around. I had become Eileen Grant, the attorney everyone looked up to.Today was my grandmother's 80th birthday.Lucas had reserved one of Manhattan's finest hotels to host a lavish birthday party in her honor. The banquet hall was packed with guests dressed to the nines. The clink of champagne glasses filled the air.My grandmother sat in her wheelchair. Though she was still physically frail, she looked far healthier than she had a year ago.Holding Lucas's hand, she smiled so broadly that her eyes crinkled with happiness."Lucas, now that Eileen has you, I can finally stop worrying. So, when are you two going to give me a great-grandchild?"Lucas glanced across the room at me, where I was greeting guests."Anne, we'll talk about this. For now, your job is to keep getting better. Whatever we decide, you'll be the first person we tell."I
