Chapter 1

Abram's POV"What? Say that again, Abram Darrow!"My mother, Joanne Blackwell, abruptly stood up from the leather chair, staring at me incredulously.Darrow Group's cash flow had dried up, and the company had also been involved in a massive financial fraud scandal. Now that the scandal had come to light, someone had to step forward and take the blame. If not, the whole family would end up in prison. The scapegoat would be either me or my brother, Adrian Darrow.I replied calmly yet firmly, "I'll just turn myself in, Mom. I'll be the one going to prison."Adrian was actually my younger half-brother whom Mom had with another man. He was also Caitlyn Murray's first love.In my past life, Mom had chosen to sacrifice Adrian. He ended up being horribly tormented and bullied in prison, and he died of depression less than a year later.Caitlyn hated me for the rest of her life because of this. She hated that, as the eldest son of the Darrow family, I did nothing but watch the sickly Ad

Chapter 2

Abram's POVCaitlyn was shocked. Madeline was shocked as well."Abram, you—"I interrupted Madeline and said, "There's no point in forcing two people who don't love each other to get married, Mrs. Murray Senior. I do not wish to marry a woman who has another man in her heart."I then turned to Caitlyn and said, "You're free now."Her expression turned extremely dark at that moment. She never thought that I would give her up that easily. She stepped forward and grabbed my wrist. "What the hell are you playing at this time, Abram Darrow? Playing hard-to-get?"You know very well that Adrian is about to be thrown in prison. And now, you're saying that you're breaking off the engagement? Are you trying to drive him to his death?"My heart squeezed. She would always think that I was the villain, no matter what happened."If he doesn't go, then I'll have to. Are you implying that I deserve to die instead?" I asked her back coldly. Her gaze darted away, but she still stubbornly said

Chapter 3

Abram's POVCaitlyn paused for a moment before glancing coldly at me. Then, she told Adrian, "If Abram truly cared about you, he wouldn't have forced you to take the fall for the family instead."I stood rooted to the ground, feeling my blood run cold. Mom should have already told Adrian that I was the one going to prison after all. Obviously, he never relayed the message to Caitlyn. He just wanted her to continue misunderstanding me and hating me for it.I remembered the wound on his wrist. In my past life, he tried slitting his own wrists at home because he didn't want to be sent to prison. Although the cut wasn't deep, it still gave Caitlyn a massive fright, and it made her want to protect him even more. And this time, Adrian was using the same trick on her again."Don't say that about Abram, Cait," he said, tugging at her sleeve. His voice was choked with sobs as though he was the victim. "It's all my fault for not being useful enough to help Mom through this crisis.""Stop

Chapter 4

Abram's POVI held a hand to the wound on the back of my head and stared at Caitlyn in disbelief. "I never pushed Adrian! He was the one—""Shut up!"Her eyes were cold and icy as she glared at me like I was a heinous criminal. "How could you be such a vicious jerk? You've completely disappointed me!"How can you even do this knowing that your dead father is watching you? If your dad found out that his son turned out to be such a horrible person like you—"A crisp slap rang out.I mustered all the strength I had to stand up and slap her in the face as hard as I could. She froze at once, instinctively holding a hand to her cheek. She looked like she wanted to hit me back, but her hand just hung mid-air.I glared daggers at her and gritted my teeth."Nobody has the right to talk about my dad, including you!" I roared. "Listen carefully, Caitlyn Murray! The person going to prison is me! Me! Not Adrian!"Right after I'd said that, my vision blacked out, and I completely lost all

Chapter 5

Third-Person POVCaitlyn stood there for a long time, watching until the car rolled down the road out of sight. Then, she finally returned to the Darrow villa, feeling utterly dejected.Adrian seemed to be behaving unusually that day. He hadn't just refused to let anyone send him off, but he'd also refused to say a single word to her in the car.She clenched her fists in remorse. She figured that he must be blaming her for being too useless and incompetent to protect him. If only she were stronger and more powerful, he would never have to go to prison. But there was nothing she could do.She'd already promised Madeline that she would marry Abram. She couldn't go back on her word. After all, the debt she owed Abram's father, Philip Darrow, was one that she would have to repay for the rest of her life. She had pledged herself to Abram, and there was no chance for her to spend the rest of her life with Adrian anymore. She closed her eyes in anguish. As she walked back to the villa

Chapter 6

Abram's POVThat night, everyone fell asleep, but I lay on the cold floor as the putrid stench attacked my nostrils. My eyes remained wide open until the next day.I kept telling myself that I'd already died once, so there wasn't anything for me to be afraid of anymore.…Billy continued trying to torture me in various ways. He forced me to take cold showers, dumped my food away, and made me clean the entire cell by myself. Yet, I never resisted nor begged for mercy even once. I just accepted my fate and numbly endured everything he put me through.Since I didn't react to his torture the way he thought I would and just remained completely unresponsive, Billy gradually lost interest in me. It wasn't fun for him to bully someone who wouldn't cry, beg for mercy, or even flinch, so he soon stopped bothering me and eventually just ignored my existence altogether. The other cellmates stopped targeting me as well once Billy stopped. I'd received no help from anyone. I'd only managed to

Chapter 7

Abram's POVI reacted quickly and dodged it. However, the toothbrush still grazed my cheek, leaving a long, bloody gash on my face."You fucking bastard, Abram Darrow! You're the one who put me in prison!" the prisoner roared.I recognized him. He was the CFO of Darrow Group, one of the other scapegoats in the financial fraud scandal. I knew he must have accepted a bribe from Adrian somehow.I didn't back down and rushed up to him, my fists raised and ready to fight. I wasn't going to just be a sitting duck waiting for my doom anymore. I'd already died once. There was nothing for me to be afraid of anymore.I used every ounce of my strength to pin him under me and wrestle the toothbrush out of his hands."Who told you to do this?" I coldly demanded. His eyes were filled with fear, but he didn't dare to answer me.The prison guards rushed over to us again just then, forcefully pulling us apart.I was put in solitary confinement once again for fighting. This time, I was locked

Chapter 8

Abram's POVI glared at Caitlyn. "Before I died, you told me that you never wanted to see me again in your next life."Caitlyn's eyes widened as if something had just dawned on her."I… I had a dream…" she said, shakily. "I dreamed that you were sick, and I was by your bedside—""That's not a dream," I said, interrupting her. "That was our past life."Caitlyn broke down in tears. She covered her face with her hands and wailed her heart out. "I'm sorry, Abram… I'm so, so sorry… I didn't know… I really didn't know…"I calmly watched her cry, but I didn't feel anything."You're too late, Caitlyn," I said. Then, I got up and turned to leave."Abram!" she suddenly yelled out behind me. "Don't go! Please, I'm begging you, don't go!"She pounded on the glass like she was trying to shatter it. She yelled, "I'll make it up to you for the rest of my life! Please, just give me another chance!"I stopped and turned to look at her."Caitlyn, do you remember what you said to 'Adrian'? You

Chapter 9

Abram's POVTwo years later, I received a reduced sentence and was released early because of my good behavior and Caitlyn's string-pulling.It was bright and sunny when I stepped out of the prison gates. I walked out and smelled the sweet scent of freedom in the air.Caitlyn was standing not too far away with a bouquet. She looked even thinner than she had been two years ago, and her eyes were filled with permanent weariness. When she saw me, she rushed up to me excitedly and said, "You're out, Abram!"I looked at her calmly. "May I help you, Ms. Murray?"She froze at once, the light in her eyes going out. "I'm here to bring you home, of course.""Home?" I chuckled. "I don't have a home.""You have one! My home is your home!" she exclaimed in a hurry.I shook my head. "No, Caitlyn. We're over."I then walked right past her and headed straight ahead. She still called out behind me nonetheless."Abram! Where are you going?""To a place without you in it."…I went to the ad
