Chapter 1

As I forced my weak body to turn around and flee, my Alpha was still talking. "Evie once gave Ruby a stomachache, so I taught Ruby to put wolfsbane in the wine. I wanted her to experience the humiliation of vomiting in public.""She gave Ruby a paper cut. I wanted her to feel that pain a thousand times over.""She performed rituals on the altar every day and overshadowed Ruby. So Ruby destroyed her inner wolf."I covered my mouth as tears fell silently to the floor. The pack healer let out a long sigh. "Alpha, after everything you’ve done to her, why still make Evie your Luna? Wouldn't it be better to just let her go?"Alexander sounded annoyed."Let her go? Are you out of your mind? She will never leave. Evie can only be mine. We are fated mates.""But Alpha, the pain she went through...""I only let Ruby do those things to help her blow off some steam," Alexander interrupted, his tone softening a little. "Once I settle Ruby, I will make it up to Evie. I still love her. She is the o

On the large bed, Ruby's lace underwear was tangled with Alexander's suit.On the wall, the only photograph of my parents was torn to shreds. Claw marks were clearly visible on the edges. It was my only keepsake after I lost my parents in a rogue attack. With trembling hands, I picked up the scattered pieces from the floor. Holding onto those torn faces, I collapsed to the ground. I was completely shattered. I bit my lip hard to keep from crying out loud.Meanwhile, the splashing and laughing in the bathroom had not stopped.I grabbed a handful of the torn pieces, stood up, and rushed to the bathroom door. The door opened right at that moment.Alexander walked out carrying Ruby. White steam wrapped around their bodies.Water droplets slid down his broad chest. Ruby nestled in his arms, completely naked. When she saw me, Ruby clapped her hands and squealed. "The wolfless freak is back!"I glared at her. A heavy weight settled in my chest. Before I could even speak, Alexander frowned. "R

Alexander stood there, staring at his trembling hands. When he saw me slump against the wal, panic flashed in his eyes for the first time. "Evie, I did not mean to..."Ruby started crying at the top of her lungs. She pointed at me from the floor. "Alex, this mean woman pushed me! It hurts so much!"Alexander's expression hardened. He turned around, held Ruby's cheeks, and released his calming scent."Be a good girl, Ruby. I am here. It will not hurt."Then he looked back at me and spat out a single word. "Apologize."Ruby proudly raised her chin. "Did you hear that? Alex told you to apologize to me!"I finally saw the spiteful hatred and mockery hidden in her eyes. Her mind was not broken at all. That look was exactly the same jealous glare she gave me years ago when she clung to Alexander at the pack gathering. She was better at playing the victim than anyone else. That was until a massive rogue attack. Ruby claimed she took a hit from a rare wolfsbane to save him. It supposedly caus

Childhood memories of being bullied during the pack wars rushed back like a tidal wave."Crescent mutt." "A cripple who does not belong in the Full Moon Run." "She doesn't even have a wolf. You might as well get on the ground and bark."Those voices rushed out from the depths of my memory. They shattered my heart. The crushing despair almost tore me apart. I did not even notice my nails digging into my palms. After ten years together, Alexander knew my deepest trauma better than anyone. In the past, every time I had a nightmare, he would hold me tight. His eyes would fill with anguish. He would swear to make those who bullied me bleed. But now, he was the one pushing me to the ground. When I did not move, he raised his hand and summoned two pack enforcers. His tone was as cold as a blade. "Evie, I gave you a chance.""Do not blame me for being cruel."He used his Alpha tone. The heavy aura of a dominant Alpha slammed down on me.My weak knees instantly gave out. I slammed heavily onto

Alexander froze in his tracks, as if he hadn't processed the words. He frowned and asked again, "What did you say?"The Beta kept his head bowed, terrified to face the Alpha's wrath. "The dungeon... is covered in blood. Evie didn't make it through the night with the snakes..."Alexander's heart pounded wildly. The shock on his face was quickly replaced by sheer rage.He ripped the rejection letter into shreds, threw it aside, and stormed out. "It seems yesterday's punishment was too light. I am going to handle her myself. Who gave her the nerve to reject our bond!"He stormed all the way to the damp, dark dungeon behind the mountain, cursing through gritted teeth. "Evie! I spoiled you for ten damn years. All I asked was for you to suffer a little for Ruby, and you dare threaten me by faking your own death..."The words died in his throat. He shoved the heavy steel door open. The sight before him sent a shiver straight down his spine. The floor was littered with dead snakes. A few were

"What now?"The Beta's lips moved. Finally, he gritted his teeth and spilled everything. "Alpha... before the Luna submitted the rejection papers, she sold all her pack shares to the Eclipse pack."Alexander's eyes widened in shock. He grabbed the Beta by the collar. "What did you say?!"The Beta looked like a man facing his execution and decided to just get it over with. "Alpha Gideon now holds thirty percent of the Crescent pack's mines and moon springs. He is teaming up with the Elder Council to hold an emergency meeting. They want to strip you of your Alpha title."Alexander practically sneered. "Ridiculous! Over half of the Crescent territory is under my name. How can he possibly touch me?"The Beta's voice dropped even lower. "But... that half under your name was gradually transferred to Ruby a long time ago."Alexander's ears rang as if a bomb had gone off.Memories hit him like a sledgehammer. Every time he used money and power to dismiss Evie's pain, he would transfer an equa

Gideon suddenly flashed a smirk. "Just how much of a failure do you think Alexander is? Every she-wolf around him betrays him one after another. They are practically lining up to hand his lifelines over to me."I lowered my eyes and forced a dry smile. "It seems my guess before I left was right. Ruby has been faking it this whole time."That Alpha cared about Ruby to the extreme. Even the pack shares he tossed at me to shut me up, he always found a way to give Ruby double the amount. But he would never have guessed that the "sweet sister" he cherished so much, the one he crushed my inner wolf to please, had now come looking for his worst enemy, just like I did.I really wanted to see the look on Alexander's face when he realized he had been played for a fool for so many years.Seeing me space out, Gideon let out a low chuckle. "So, Miss Evie, what do you want me to do?"The mocking smile on my lips deepened. "What? Complete control over a territory and a beautiful female throwing herse

Smiling broadly, Gideon turned on the wall monitor. On the screen, the floor beneath Ruby's feet was packed with a writhing, slithering mass of snakes. She hugged her chest, screaming frantically. Her hair was a mess, and her delicate face was completely twisted in terror.Goosebumps instantly covered my entire body. I instinctively turned my head away. But Gideon reached out and gently tilted my chin back. His voice was low by my ear."Silly girl. I am right beside you. What are you panicking for?""Keep your eyes open and watch closely. The good show has just begun."The next second, Ruby completely broke down on screen. She desperately smashed her elbow into the high ventilation window. Ignoring the glass slicing her skin and making her bleed, she frantically scrambled out. However, the moment she fell out of the window, a modified truck on a heavy patrol run around the territory border came roaring past. The massive tires rolled ruthlessly over her legs. The sharp crack of her bone

From the device came his own voice."Evie once gave Ruby a stomachache, so I taught Ruby to put wolfsbane in the wine. I wanted her to experience the humiliation of vomiting in public.""She gave Ruby a paper cut. I wanted her to feel that pain a thousand times over.""She performed rituals on the altar every day and overshadowed Ruby. So I destroyed her inner wolf. She lost her connection with the Moon Goddess forever.""..."As his own cruel words echoed through the hospital room, Alexander's blood-stained face filled with sheer panic. He stared at me in disbelief. "You heard all of that?""No, Evie, listen to me. I can explain.""I was tricked by Ruby. She faked it for a whole year.""I didn't mean any of those things. You have to believe me, Evie!""I only saw Ruby as my savior. I saw her as a responsibility I had to carry for the rest of my life. You are the only mate I have ever loved, from the very beginning!"I gave a mocking laugh. "Stop pretending, Alexander. From the moment
