All Chapters of Perfect Stand-In: I Became My Dead Sister: Chapter 1 - Chapter 10

The day after my mother, Cordelia Elsher, tore up my recommendation letter, three pack Elders came to my house. They were the most prestigious wolves in the pack, but they personally came to demand justice for me."Sara is the first genius to awaken her wolf ahead of schedule. If she goes to Beloria and becomes a Werewolf Warrior, she'll be the pride of the entire pack!"When Mom saw the Elders arrive, she became anxious. She went berserk, smashing our things to drive them out of the house. She then grabbed the back of my neck and shoved me down in front of my sister, Leah Corbet's statue. She yelled, "On your knees! Did you go crying to the Elders to get their sympathy? How selfish can you be? Is it really so hard for you to live like your sister?"I bit my lower lip until I bled, but I didn't say a single word.My father, Josiah Corbet, was so angry that he smashed the table to pieces. "Sara, you took forbidden drugs to force your awakening, just to spite us! Even with Le

To celebrate my compliance, Mom and Dad decided to throw a grand party at the estate. And I was to attend in Leah's place.Mom took it very seriously and went out of her way to find a red hunting dress that Leah had worn before. It still had the bloodstains from when Leah had failed at hunting, along with the stench of her sweat. When I was little, I was also forced to wear Leah's hand-me-downs. All the wolf pups would laugh at me behind my back and bully me.Back then, I cautiously told Mom, "Mom, I don't want to wear these."Yet, her face turned red with anger, and she screamed hysterically, "You should be honored that you get to wear Leah's clothes!"But this time, I didn't say a word. I simply put it on. When Mom saw me wearing the red dress, her eyes were filled with tears. I knew she was seeing her dead daughter instead of me. Her love had never been meant for me."Stop looking so miserable. You need to smile happily, just like Leah," she lectured. She went over eve

When a werewolf died, its soul would instinctively drift toward the person they were most closely related to by blood. Therefore, my soul was forcibly drawn to Mom and Dad.In the dead of night, Mom and Dad were kneeling before Leah's tombstone in the cemetery.Mom clung to the tombstone, sobbing, while Dad's eyes reddened with tears. Mom cried, "Leah, it's been 20 years, and I still can't forget you."It turned out they had abandoned me in the fire to check on Leah. Ever since I was old enough to remember, they had come here without fail on every full moon to keep vigil over Leah. But they had never once brought me along. When I was little, I thought they were secretly going to the amusement park. All the other pups had gone with their parents, and I was the only one who hadn't. I mustered the courage to tug on Mom's sleeve, and for the first time, I begged, "Mom, I want to go too."However, she glared at me with red eyes as though I had done something bad. She scolded

Just then, Carl received a phone call. The next second, all the color drained from his face. He yelled, "Aunt Cordelia, Uncle Josiah, bad news! The police want you back at the manor immediately! S-Sara died in a fire!"Aunt Clara's eyes widened in disbelief, and she collapsed to the floor.Carl's eyes turned red as he screamed hysterically, "Your house caught fire last night! Sara was burned alive! Yesterday, she was still at that party, smiling as she accepted my gift! How could she have died in a fire in her room?"Mom and Dad stood frozen in place, completely stunned.Several seconds passed before Mom finally returned to her senses. She laughed mockingly, as if she had just heard the funniest joke. "A fire? She burned to death? What kind of farce did she put on now? Carl, you've been deceived! She's always been like this, putting on an act for attention! And now, she actually has the nerve to use her death to threaten me?"Dad also refused to believe it. "That's right! She

After that day, Mom went completely insane. The Elders intervened in the investigation and determined that my parents were suspected of negligent homicide.Dad spent all his money on the fine, which allowed him to avoid prison. However, he sent Mom to the pack's rehabilitation center.Mom lay in bed in a hospital. She had become so thin that she was just skin and bones. In just a few days, her hair had turned completely white. She looked like an 80-year-old woman. When Leah died, my parents were already in their 40s. After having me and watching all these years pass, they were well over 60. When I was little, I would look at photos of Leah with our younger parents. I was always jealous and worried. I was jealous that Leah had known them when they were young, unlike the old and stern parents I knew. I was afraid that they would grow up and die before I even had the chance to grow up. It was ironic how I had ended up dying before them.In the rehabilitation center, Mom sp
