Chapter 1

I stood by the restroom door, my fingers clutching the hem of my shirt. After a while, my father, Thomas Sullivan, walked out of the restroom with my brother, Edward Sullivan.Thomas was stunned when he saw me. A flicker of guilt crossed his eyes.Beside him, Edward spoke in Franich. "Don't worry, Dad. That country bumpkin doesn't know a single word of Franich."Thomas visibly relaxed. As he turned toward me, the guilt in his eyes melted into impatience."What are you standing around here for? Hurry up and use the restroom if that's why you're here. We've made a reservation at the restaurant and will be heading over soon."I remained where I was and said nothing. For the first time, I didn't immediately do as he said.Thomas' expression turned grim. Losing his patience, he grabbed me by the arm and shoved me into the restroom. He did so with such force that it left red marks on my arm, which instantly throbbed with pain. However, none of this was new to me.Thomas always ha

I sprang to my feet from the pain. However, Thomas and Abigail immediately checked if Edward was okay."Are you okay, Ed?"I noticed how worried they were, and the realization stung me."I'm the one who was scalded," I said softly.Everyone fell silent. The waiter quickly grabbed a towel and helped me wipe off the spilled food, apologizing as he did. "I'm really, really sorry! It's my fault for being careless."I grabbed his hand. In an icy tone, I said, "It's not your fault. Someone purposely bumped into you."Edward retorted, "What are you trying to say? Are you saying I bumped into him on purpose just to hurt you?"Feeling wronged, he took Abigail's hand and complained to her. "Mom, how could he say that I did it on purpose? I was only walking past!"Abigail turned to look at me, her brows furrowing into a deep frown."Chester, how could you accuse your brother of something like that?"Thomas even reprimanded me without trying to figure out the truth. "You've learned to

When we got home from the hospital, the two suits Abigail had ordered had just been delivered. Those were the outfits Edward and I were supposed to wear during the welcome-home banquet. However, even though we were supposedly brothers, one of the suits was bespoke suit, while the other was just a cheaper, off-the-rack suit. When Edward laid his eyes upon an expensive bespoke suit, he immediately pounced on it. "This suit is well-tailored. I'm wearing this to the introduction dinner!"I wasn't particularly interested in that suit, as its craftsmanship was nothing exceptional to me. Still, it was my introduction dinner, so it was only logical that I wear the better outfit.Besides, I wasn't going to back down this time. So, when Edward was about to return to his room with the suit, I stopped him."Give it back."My resoluteness surprised him, and he was briefly stunned. When he caught on, he glared at me. "What do you mean? You don’t deserve to wear something this expensive!"S

On the day of the welcome-home banquet, I arrived at the venue dressed in the haute couture suit. The moment I entered the banquet hall, Edward and his friends blocked my way.Edward sized me up. Then, he asked mockingly, "Hey, is the suit you took from me comfortable?"His friends shot me disdainful looks, and they started mocking me."Stealing Ed's identity clearly isn't enough to satisfy you. Now you're stealing his outfit as well!""Yeah, as expected of someone from the countryside—you have no manners at all!"I watched the immature group before me with cold detachment."Did it never occur to you that I'm actually the son of the Sullivan family and am just taking back everything that belongs to me? Aren’t people in your elite circles supposed to care more about bloodlines than anything else?"Edward's friends were stunned speechless.Edward's face paled. He retorted, "Everything belonged to me in the first place. I'm only being forced to give it back to you because you've

Dozens of bodyguards promptly flooded into the hall and surrounded the crowd. One of them kicked aside the guards who were pinning me down.Flanked by his bodyguards, Howard walked briskly toward me. "Chester, are you okay?"With a worried expression, he carefully helped me up.Everyone's present stared at us in shock as they watched on."Isn't that Howard Jordan, the CEO of the largest company in Jorwich City?""Yes, that's him. I heard he has an adopted son. To think his adopted son is actually the Sullivans' son!"As Thomas listened on, his face turned as white as a sheet."M-Mr. Jordan!"He tried to get closer to Howard, but Howard's bodyguards kept him at bay. In the end, he could only keep his distance, a flattering smile plastered on his face."Mr. Jordan, is our son, Chester Sullivan, really your adopted son?"Howard didn't even spare him a glance as he answered coldly, "That's right. By the way, his name isn’t Chester Sullivan. It’s Chester Jordan."When Edward lea

Thomas stiffened.Wiping the cold sweat covering his forehead, he tried to negotiate. "Mr. Jordan, I hit him because he was disobedient. I was only trying to educate him.""Educate? I don't need you to educate my son!"Howard lost all his patience. He commanded, "If you don't do as I say, the legal department of Jordan Group will take you to court for assault and abuse!"His threat frightened Thomas.Slapping himself would have no lasting consequences. In contrast, Jordan Group had great influence all across Jorwich City. They could easily manipulate the facts.By then, not only could they sue him for abuse, but they could even exploit any loopholes that existed in his company.Bracing himself, Thomas was ready to slap himself when Edward, covered in blood, rushed over.Edward stopped Thomas and glared at me furiously."What gives you the right to do this to my father? You can't just do anything you like just because you're rich!"Ignoring Edward's injuries, Thomas covered h

After returning to Howard’s side, I no longer cared about the Sullivan family.I didn't pay them back for what they did to me. After all, I'd only lived with them for a few days.Besides, Howard had already stood up for me on the day of the introduction dinner.I no longer had to waste my energy on taking my revenge. However, Thomas was unwilling to let me go.Sullivan Group was facing a crisis, and the company was on the verge of collapse.Out of everyone in Jorwich City, only the Jordan family had the means to help them. Therefore, Thomas frequently came to me.He tried to use our blood relationship to emotionally blackmail me, all because he wanted financial assistance from Jordan Group. When I refused, he sent Edward to apologize to me.However, Edward was a prideful man. He was used to loafing around and had never learned to look at the bigger picture. So, when he saw that I was living a good life with bodyguards protecting me, he forgot Thomas' instructions and started

Upon arriving at the airport, I pulled my suitcase toward the departure hall to meet up with Howard.Just as I was about to enter the departure hall, an urgent, familiar woman's voice called out to me. "Chet!"I paused and turned around. It was Zoe.Her hair was tousled, and sweat covered her forehead. She had clearly run all the way here.Stumbling over herself, she ran toward me.Her chest was heaving. With a raspy voice, she asked, "Chet, are you really emigrating?"My expression was calm as I nodded. That single gesture seemed to shatter something inside her.Her eyes rapidly reddened. Sobbing, she said, "Chet, this is not how you used to treat me. Do you still blame me?"I gazed at her silently. Then, I said calmly, "I don't blame you anymore."A flicker of excitement lit up her initially dull eyes, as though she'd found her last lifeline. It was as though she thought there was still hope for us to start anew."Then... is there still a chance for us?"What I said next
