Chapter 1

Thinking back on it, I should have noticed something was wrong long before. For the two years I couldn't see, "Lucian" had grown colder and colder with me.He rarely spoke. There was something like distance between us whenever we were together.I was blind, and no matter how much helplessness I carried, the shame pressing on my chest kept me from ever asking.I was still working out what to do next when the door opened.Behind me came Silas's voice, doing Lucian's."Leona, I'm home."I had to admit, Silas was good at it. No wonder I had never suspected a thing.I lifted my eyes slowly, my blank, unfocused gaze landing on the hard rise and fall of Silas's chest. The best body in the werewolf world, everyone said. They were not wrong. The cold, untouchable god of a man the whole kingdom knew about, always wild, never tamed.Nobody understood why he would let Lucian order him around, why he would keep up a fake performance with me for two whole years, why he would go so far as to form a m

That night, I held on to Silas and slept against him until morning.I could feel it clearly. His body stayed rigid the entire time. When I woke the next day, he was gone.Alpha Lucian stood in front of me in a crisp suit, smiling."Get up. We're going to the Alpha King's birthday banquet today."I stretched and complained sweetly, "Honey, your body was so hard. It dug into me and made my back sore."The smile dropped off Lucian's face.On the way to the estate, Lucian stayed silent, cold coming off him in waves. But the second we stepped into the great hall, he curled an arm around my waist like a devoted husband and offered his respects to the old wolf king."Honored Alpha King. Happy birthday, and may your strength never fade."The Alpha King was fond of me. He had me sit beside him and we talked about all sorts of things. The banquet was crowded, and I saw plenty of familiar faces. Not only Silas, who had shared my bed the night before, but also Thea, the woman Lucian actually wante

After I had bathed and changed at the Alpha King's estate, I happened to catch Lucian and Silas talking in the corridor.Lucian's face was black, and he roared his question at him."Silas, you're supposed to have all that self-control. Why did I just see you react to Leona?"Silas unfastened one cuff with his free hand, silent for a moment before he answered."Lucian, I'm a wolf. I'm flesh and blood. I've shared a bed with Leona for two years, and I smell that scent of hers every single day. You know how strong that pull is. Of course I react to her."Lucian's breathing went ragged with disbelief, and he shouted, "But Leona is my fated mate, and she's been cold as a stone these two years, so how could you possibly... Silas, you're going to promise me. No matter how much Leona throws herself at you, you do not sleep with her. She's my Luna!"Silas's expression turned cutting."Leona is my fate now. Or have you forgotten?"Lucian said nothing.Silas gave a mocking laugh. "You're in love

Once he had tasted it, Silas was like an addict, tireless every night. For two solid months he barely left the house, his whole attention on me.As for Lucian, word was he had gone off to a hunting resort with Thea. I hadn't seen him in two months. Then one day I wasn't feeling well, and Silas took me to the hospital for a checkup. In the stairwell we ran straight into Lucian and Thea, just back from their vacation.Thea spoke first. "What a coincidence. My appetite has been off lately, I feel like throwing up every day, and who knows, maybe we got carried away at the resort and I'm pregnant. What about you two? What brings you to the hospital?"Silas's voice was flat. "Leona hasn't been feeling well. I brought her in for tests."Lucian was afraid of giving himself away and said nothing at all.But I noticed his eyes fixed on the red marks on my neck.I pretended not to see and walked past them, unbothered. At the exact moment we passed each other, Thea shrieked, tipped sideways, and f

Silas went still for a moment, and something like a smile came into those deep eyes of his.Lucian turned to him, unable to believe it, his voice shaking before he could stop it. "Are you telling me the baby... is yours?"Silas admitted it without hesitation. "Yes.""You bastard!"A roar tore out of Lucian's throat, and his fist came flying at Silas's face."You promised me you would never touch her. You could hold out even when they drugged you, so how did you end up putting a baby in Leona! You dared to lie to me!"Silas fell back a few steps, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and sneered, "Lucian, you know what I'm like. I've never been the kind of man who involves himself in other people's business. If I felt nothing for Leona, I never would have agreed to use a witch's potion to mask my own scent and beg the Moon Goddess to tie her bond to me.""You bastard, I treated you like a brother, and you slept with my wife. You're a disgusting, shameless piece of work!"Silas's

After Lucian was thrown out, the room went quiet all at once.A low pulse of sound came from my belly. It was the baby's heartbeat.I laid a hand over my stomach and felt the child there, but my emotions were a tangle.Inside me, a tiny heart was beating.I began to wonder whether keeping this baby had been the right decision. Then Silas broke into my thoughts."Leona, I know you can see."I froze, stunned. "How long have you known?"Silas lowered his eyes and sat down on the edge of my bed. "Since the day you came on to me. Leona, we've shared a bed for two years. No matter how natural you made it look, I would have noticed. And there's a fated bond between us. I can feel what you feel.""Then why didn't you call me out? Why keep acting?"Silas opened his mouth and closed it again. After a moment he lowered his head and laughed at himself. "Leona, these two years with you have been like a dream. As long as the dream doesn't end, I'm willing to keep falling."I wanted to press him for

I moved back into my own house.Silas set his work aside and gave himself entirely to taking care of me and the baby.He even signed up for the new-dad classes run by a senior pack doctor and started learning how to look after an infant. Our days turned quiet and warm. Then one day, while Silas was out on an errand, a group of rogues broke into my house, knocked me unconscious, and tied me up in a car. When I woke, my arms and legs were bound to a chair. There was nothing in front of me but black, until Lucian pulled the blindfold away and I found myself looking at his cold, terrible face."Lucian, what do you want?" My chest tightened.Lucian's face was frost, his voice ice. "Leona, you're my Luna. I won't allow you to be with Silas! Drink the witch's memory potion and every painful memory will be gone."I screamed at him, "Lucian, don't you dare. I make my own decisions. What gives you the right to do this to me!""But you're my Luna!"Lucian patted my shoulder as if to comfort me. "

Chapter 8

Once we had left that strange place, I swore before the Moon Goddess that I rejected my fated bond with Lucian. The Alpha King called both of us to the estate. In the silent, solemn grounds, the Alpha King's face was grave and heavy."Leona, I hear your eyes have healed. That's wonderful news. So why are you and Lucian fighting about a divorce?"I was quiet for a moment, then told him the plain truth."Alpha King, I'm pregnant. But the baby isn't Lucian's."The Alpha King's brows drew tight, his face displeased. "Leona, there's a limit to how far you take your temper. Don't make jokes with your own reputation and this family's. You and Lucian grew up together and you've always been close. How could you ever betray him?""I'm not joking. Every word of it is true."I took out several photographs and handed them calmly to the Alpha King."But let me be clear about one thing. Lucian betrayed me first. For the two years I was blind he was carrying on with his first love, Thea. And to make i

The day came to break the fated bond.Lucian arrived in a wheelchair, pushed by his Beta.Thea was there as well. Two Betas held her by the arms, forced her onto her knees in front of me, and pressed her head down to the floor in apology.Thea's eyes streamed as she choked out the words. "I'm sorry, Leona. I shouldn't have provoked you on purpose. I shouldn't have set you up..."Lucian watched her keep bowing her head to the floor with perfect calm. Not a trace of the old affection or tenderness was left on his face, only cold indifference."Leona, I looked into it. At the Alpha King's birthday banquet, she went after you deliberately. And at the hospital, she threw herself down those stairs. She framed you, and she owes you an apology.""She's apologized. What about you?" I asked it evenly, and I saw the surprise cross his face before I gave a short laugh. "Lucian, did you do nothing wrong?"Lucian went blank for a beat, then smiled bitterly at himself. "You're right. I did wrong too,
