Chapter 11

I originally thought that madman Xavier would change his mind and send people to hunt me down. One day, two days, three days passed. The bulletproof car sped south the whole way. There were no pursuers behind me, nor were there any spies belonging to the pack.I finally dared to believe that I had really escaped.A few days later, I arrived in a sunny human city by the coast. This place was thousands of miles away from the werewolf territories in North America. It was so far away that no one had ever heard of any Alpha King, and no one knew who Elsie was.I used the cash the Elder Luna gave me to rent a small house with a yard by the sea.The house wasn't big, but opening the window gave me a view of the blue ocean. The landlady was a very warm, plump woman.Seeing that I was all alone, she casually asked if I was here on vacation.I smiled and said I wanted a change of environment to start life over.I didn't pry any further. She just patted me cheerfully on the shoulder."A girl need

I thought I would never hear any news about that pack ever again in this lifetime. But one afternoon half a year later, Nora came in through the back door. She looked at me with a complicated expression."There's some huge news coming from North America."I was holding a steamer, organizing the clothes on the racks. Hearing this, my hands paused for a moment.Nora walked up to me and lowered her voice."I heard there was a massive purge in the Alpha King's territory."The sharp edge of a hanger accidentally cut my fingertip. A bead of blood instantly swelled up.I lowered my head, wiped it away with a tissue, and pretended that nothing happened."What happened?""That Rogue faction that kept trying to assassinate the King was completely wiped out.""This purge implicated countless undercover spies.""I heard the Wolfsbane incident in the kitchen was just the tip of the iceberg.""The car bombs, sniper assassinations, and illegal drug smuggling from the past few years were all done by t

But he didn't force his way in. He just stood quietly outside the door, letting the freezing snow fall on his shoulders."I looked for you for a long time."My fingertips grew cold. "You promised you wouldn't force me back to the pack...""I know."He said in a low voice, "I'm not here to take you back."I didn't believe him at all. My body's defense mechanisms reacted faster than my brain.I slammed my hand forward to shut the door. But before the door could close, he suddenly started coughing violently. He coughed as if his lungs were tearing apart. When he covered his lips with a handkerchief, the black blood he coughed up faintly seeped through. My motion to close the door froze. He noticed my gaze and forced a bitter smile."It's nothing.""Just some internal injuries left over from before."I gripped the door tightly. My voice was as hard as ice."The Alpha King has a noble status. Since you're injured, you naturally have top-tier pack healers to care for you.""My place is too s

The last trace of color on his face drained completely.I continued, "Go back to your territory. Go back to being your high and mighty Alpha King.""I'm just an ordinary woman who wanted freedom. I just want to live a normal person's life."His Adam's apple rolled, but he couldn't say another word.I bent down and picked up the velvet box. "Take it."He didn't reach out to take it.So I let the box drop into the snow by his feet. Then, I resolutely closed the door and locked it.There was no sound outside the door for a long time.So long that I thought he had already given up and left. But after a long while, his hoarse voice finally came from outside the door."Elsie, this time, I'm truly letting you go."I closed my eyes. Tears fell silently. These tears weren't for him. They were for the girl who had been trapped in the Alpha estate for seven whole years. The sound of footsteps outside gradually faded away, finally disappearing into the wind and snow. When I opened the door again,
