Chapter 1

“Send location. I’m on my way.”The black words on the white screen made my mind go completely blank.Gideon Vance. My boss. The tyrant CEO of Apex Investments. The Alpha of North America’s most powerful pack.Thud. The phone slipped from my sweaty hands. My rebellious urge to let loose vanished. Doused by a hundred tons of ice water.I sent that filthy text… to my cold, ruthless Alpha boss. The one whose gaze alone could kill.I dove for the phone, frantically stabbing the “unsend” button.A cruel notification popped up: Message sent more than two minutes ago. Cannot be recalled. It was over.My career was officially dead.I bit my lip, hard.Gideon wouldn't even need his Alpha aura. A single glance from those piercing amber wolf eyes would be enough to crush me.My fingers, white at the knuckles, trembled as I typed. “Mr. Vance, I am so sorry! That was an accident, I sent it to the wrong person!”Sent. The three dots appeared at the top of the screen immediately. He was typing.Ten s

I pulled an all-nighter on the report. I thought last night’s disaster was finally over.10 AM. Apex Investments. Top-floor conference room.Gideon stood in front of a giant projector screen, presenting to the executives with the PowerPoint I made.I sat in the corner, my eyelids heavy. My mind was still full of resentment from being worked to the bone.“Oh my god…”“Is she insane?”A sudden wave of whispers jolted me awake.I snapped my head up. Did I miss something important in the meeting notes? The next second, my blood ran cold. The screen wasn't showing boring data charts. It was showing my private iMessage chat.Damn iCloud sync!My backup tablet for the meeting was connected to the projector! And right there, in giant, crystal-clear letters, was the rant I’d sent Chloe five minutes ago to stay awake.“Damn werewolf stamina! How do they never sleep? I'm a walking zombie.”If it had stopped there, it would have just been getting caught bad-mouthing the boss. But the next part was

Chapter 3

I stumbled back to my desk and fell into my chair.A crushing sense of disappointment swallowed me whole. It was just like seven years ago.Back then, I was full of hope. I thought maybe, just maybe, there was a chance across the species line.In the end, nothing happened. And today, seven years later, my hope died all over again.“Hey, human.”A sharp, arrogant female voice snapped above me.I looked up.Valerie. An elite she-wolf from a rival pack. She stood in front of my desk, dripping in Chanel. The office went quiet.Everyone knew Valerie was Gideon’s number one admirer. She’d thrown a fortune at chasing him, and had already declared herself his future mate to everyone in their circle.“Go get me a coffee.” She tossed a black card onto my keyboard. “Now.”It was over a hundred degrees outside. The heat rising from the pavement could cook you alive.I gritted my teeth, ran two blocks under the blazing sun, and came back with an iced Americano. My shirt was soaked with sweat as I h

Chapter 4

“Do you know how to tie a tie?”His low voice broke the silence.I snapped back to reality.Gideon had already taken the white shirt from my hands and was shrugging it on.But he hadn't buttoned it.He picked out a black silk tie and held it out to me.I swallowed, feeling like I was under a spell, and nodded.I took a step forward.Closer to him.The top of my head barely reached his collarbone. He was so tall.He didn't move back to give me space.Instead, he leaned in closer. My hands trembled as I wrapped the tie around his neck.My fingertips brushed against his scorching hot skin.I flinched like I’d been shocked.Too close. So close I could hear the deep, powerful beat of his heart.Thump, thump. His hot breath fell like a feather on my nose. The air grew thick. His intense, masculine energy wrapped around me, suffocating me.“Want to find out?”His seductive voice suddenly rumbled above me.My hands froze.I looked up in disbelief, my eyes crashing into his deep amber pools.Hi

Chapter 5

“Oh my god, Harper! You two were in there for two hours!”“And your shirt! Your buttons are all wrong!”A dozen colleagues scrambled up from the floor, their gossipy eyes glued to me.My legs were still trembling, and a deep ache throbbed in my inner thighs.I bit my lip hard and slammed my hand on a nearby desk.“We were reviewing top-secret company files! What, you want to ask Mr. Vance for the details?”They all exchanged nervous glances.I seized the moment, grabbed my bag, and pushed through the crowd, running for the elevator like my life depended on it.The next evening, I arrived at a penthouse in Manhattan’s most luxurious building at 7 PM sharp. This was the location Gideon had sent.An exclusive high-rise strictly for top-tier wolves. The moment I pushed open the door, I gasped. The first thing I saw was an indoor infinity pool larger than a standard racetrack.Beyond a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, the entire glittering New York City skyline lay at my feet. The walls we

Saturday night. The bass from the underground club’s speakers vibrated in my chest.Colorful lasers shot across the crowded dance floor.I picked up my fourth tequila shot and threw it back. The fiery liquid burned its way down to my stomach, trying to extinguish the rage in my heart.“Another!” I slammed the empty glass on the bar.My bestie, Chloe, grabbed my wrist. She gave me a massive eye-roll and pointed at the hot bartender who’d been winking at me.“Harper, you’ve been staring at him for half an hour. If you’re going to hook up with him, just do it. Stop moping like a jilted lover.”I followed her finger. The bartender was cute. Blond, blue eyes, tight black t-shirt stretching over his chest. But I felt nothing.“He won’t do,” I slurred, getting picky. “Too short. His muscles look fake. And there’s no fire in his eyes.”An image of another, perfect body flashed in my mind.Pale skin. Broad collarbones. A hard, tight eight-pack.And those piercing, amber wolf eyes.Damn it.I sh

[Harper, answer your phone. Now.][Where are you?][Who is that man sitting next to you?][How much have you had to drink?!][If you don't reply, I'm docking your pay for the next six months.]I stared at the dozen messages on my screen and nearly dropped my phone. My hangover headache vanished instantly.I wasn't dreaming.Last night, I really did get drunk and scream at my top-tier Alpha boss.I’m so fired. My career is over.Just as I buried my face in my hands in despair, my doorbell started ringing. Frantically. My hands trembled as I walked to the entrance and opened the door.A tall, dark shadow fell over me.I stared, my eyes wide with shock.Standing outside was Gideon.Who was supposed to be in London. He had flown back overnight. His expensive shirt, always so perfect, was unbuttoned at the neck, his tie gone. His deep eyes glowed with the dangerous light of his amber wolf pupils. He was holding his suitcase. He didn't give me a chance to speak. He stormed past me, all cold

Chapter 8

The sun on Fifth Avenue was dazzling. It was our first date since we’d gotten together.I walked beside him, a fist’s-width of space between us.People on the street were staring.Gideon was impossible to ignore. He wore a perfectly tailored, dark grey suit, his long legs moving with an easy stride, his entire being radiating a cold, ‘stay away’ aura.We were both a little shy at first. Neither of us spoke.I looked at the large hand swinging by his side. Strong, with well-defined knuckles.I took a deep breath and gathered my courage. I reached out.The second my fingertips touched the back of his hand, he grabbed it.He didn’t hesitate. He possessively laced his fingers through mine, our hands locked together. Then, with one arm, he pulled me into his side, tucking me into the solid warmth of his body. His sharp cedar scent surrounded me.“What’s wrong? Scared to hold my hand?” he looked down at me, a playful glint in his eyes.My cheeks burned. I gripped his suit jacket. “Who’s scar

BAM! I slammed my phone down on the desk. The screen was still lit up.A paparazzi shot of us kissing in the parking garage was the top headline on every business news site in North America.“Is this your idea of protecting me?!” I yelled, my body trembling with rage as I glared at the man in front of me.I had been living in this ridiculously luxurious penthouse for two months. But outside of these walls, I didn't exist.Last week, we ran into his mother at a restaurant. The elegant, pureblood lady had kindly complimented my dress. And Gideon? He froze, his expression so grim he looked like he wanted to kill someone. That night, he coldly ordered me to quit my job at Apex.To maintain my independence, I gritted my teeth and found a job at a new company, starting from scratch.I thought it was all just a temporary sacrifice.Until this morning. Until that photo blew up everywhere. What followed wasn't an announcement that he was claiming me.It was an official statement from Apex Inves

Chapter 10

“Harper, please! You have to go see him!”BAM! The door to my tiny apartment was thrown open. The once regal, pureblood Luna fell to her knees on my doorstep.Gideon’s mother was sobbing hysterically, her perfect makeup a wreck. His father stood beside her, his eyes red, his voice shaking.“That lunatic! He’s threatening the whole family with his own life!” the old Alpha said, grabbing his hair in despair. “He doesn't even want to live! To hell with the Elders and their traditions! As long as he survives, we’ll give you anything you want!”My heart stopped. The glass of water in my hand slipped and shattered on the floor.Sixteen days.He hadn't married Valerie.Instead, he had chosen the most brutal, desperate way to fight back.He had been injecting himself with lethal doses of wolfsbane. Every day.A poison that even the strongest Alpha couldn’t withstand. He had even suppressed his own werewolf healing ability, letting the poison eat away at his organs. An hour ago, the Pack Hospit
