ASHKA’S POVI stood in front of the mirror holding up two dresses while Ivy sat on the edge of the bed watching me.“Which one?” I asked. “The deep red or the dark green?”Ivy tilted her head. “The red one. You’ve always looked good in that color, and stop smiling like that already. You’ve been married five years and you’re still this excited about an anniversary?”I laughed. “I can’t help it, I still look forward to every single one. I love him the same way I did the day we got married.”“You are hopeless,” Ivy said, standing up to take the green dress from my hands. “Try the red on properly so I can see.”I changed quickly into it and turned around. “Well?”“Its perfect. Now for the jewelry…” She hesitated, taking her time to access my neck. “Use that simple gold one he gave you on your third anniversary. It suits the dress better.”I nodded and put it on. Then I picked up the small wooden box from the table. “What about the gift? Does the wrapping look neat enough?”Ivy took the bo

ASHKA’S POVI stood frozen at the bedroom door, staring at them.Rurik and Ivy…in our bed?And there was a golden mate mark glowing on her neck.No one said anything for a few moments. I kept waiting for one of them to tell me I was probably hallucinating or that this was some kind of sick joke.Rurik was the first to speak. He didn’t look guilty. In fact he looked almost relieved.“Ashka—”“What am I looking at?” I asked. “Why is Ivy in our bedroom?”He sat up slowly and reached for his shirt. “I think you already know what you’re looking at.”“No. I don’t. Explain it to me. Right now.”Rurik glanced at Ivy, then back at me. “She’s my true mate. We found out over a year ago.”I almost passed out from shock. “A year ago? You’ve known for a full year?”“Yes.”“And you’ve been sleeping with her this whole time while I was still your wife?”He didn’t deny it. “I kept the marriage because the pack still needed the Vaelthorn name. After your father died, a lot of the older warriors and the

ASHKA’S POVI sat in the study staring at the door while Ivy kept knocking from the other side.“Ashka, please,” she said, sounding full of guilt. “Open up the door and just hear me out. I never wanted you to find out like that. There are things you don’t understand.”I stayed quiet, hoping she would eventually leave. But she didn’t.“We’re sisters,” Ivy continued. “You know me. You know I would never hurt you on purpose. Please give me a chance to explain, just a few minutes. I’ve been dying inside since you walked in on us.”I waited a little longer. The knocking didn’t stop. Finally I stood up, unlocked the door, and stepped back.Ivy walked in quickly. Her eyes were red. “I’m so sorry, Ashka. I never wanted to hurt you. I tried to fight the bond for as long as I could. I stayed away from Rurik at the beginning because I didn’t want to destroy your marriage. But the mate bond became too strong and I couldn’t ignore it anymore. Fate put us in this position. I didn’t choose it either

ASHKA’S POVI stayed hidden in the corridor, listening carefully.Their faces were covered by the darkness so I couldn’t tell who they were, I could only focus on their words.“Do you think the emotional pressure from tonight could weaken the seal?” one of them asked.“It shouldn’t,” the other answered. “The seal has held for years. But we can’t take chances, her emotions are running high right now. That kind of shock can create dents if we’re not careful.”“Then we reinforce it,” the first voice said. “Make the suppressant stronger before anything reacts.”“I’ll arrange another session with Morrigast by the new week. No one else needs to know.”“Good. If that seal breaks, everything we’ve protected falls apart. The whole arrangement collapses.”I felt my mind racing.A seal? Was it me they were talking about? And if it was, no one had ever told me anything about a seal.I had never felt anything that made me think my mate bond was being controlled or suppressed.I had lived my entir

ASHKA’S POVI arrived at the neutral territory with only a small group of people I trusted. The meeting place was quiet and far from any main roads, so I had taken my time to choose it carefully. If Rurik ever found out I had met with the Alpha of Nightfall, he would call it treason without bothering to ask me any questions.I planned to reveal only what was necessary until I knew whether Vasik Draugir could be trusted at all.Vasik arrived not long after me. He stopped a short distance away and looked at me directly.“Luna of Silvercrest,” he said. “I know who you are. What I don’t know is why you requested a private meeting with me.”“I need information,” I answered. “And I cannot look for it inside my own pack.”He studied me for a moment. “You are Rurik Solmane’s Luna. Approaching his greatest rival in secret is either very brave or very foolish. Which one is it?”“I overheard a conversation,” I said. “Two people discussing a seal and a suppressant connected to me. They spoke abou
