“I still prefer Blackthorn,” Lily said as she made her final selection.Without hesitation, Noah closed the Northstar Academy admissions brochure.“Then I’ll go to Blackthorn with you.”My parents smiled in approval, as if it were perfectly normal for my boyfriend to change his college plans for my sister.Only after they had finished discussing Lily’s major, dorm, and plans after graduation did my mother finally remember that I had also taken the Seven Territories College Entrance Exam.“Evelyn, your grades are nothing special. Just choose a college near Lily’s.”Damian answered without even looking up.“That way, you can still visit on weekends and keep Lily company.”Noah glanced at the time and urged me impatiently, “There are only thirty minutes left. Don’t leave it until the last second again and make everyone clean up your mess.”My fingers tightened around the admissions guide. When we were children, we often played games about wars between packs. Lily was always the Luna every

The next day, Dad transferred a coming-of-age gift to both Lily and me.The moment Lily saw the amount, she wrapped her arms around Mom’s arm.“I knew you loved me the most.”Then she turned to me. “How much did Dad give you?”I opened my bank account.“Two hundred dollars.”The satisfaction in Lily’s eyes became even more obvious, though her voice remained sweet and considerate.“They must be worried you’ll spend it irresponsibly. That’s probably why they gave me twenty thousand dollars to manage myself. If you ever want to buy something, you can ask me first.”Mom affectionately tapped the tip of her nose.“That money is your reward for scoring six hundred and fifty points. Of course you get to decide how to spend it.”Then she turned to me, and her voice immediately turned cold.“As for you, there’s hardly anything worth celebrating about a score in the five hundreds. You already fall behind Lily in every way. You’ll need to work even harder once you start college.”She still hadn’t

After dinner, my boyfriend, Noah, arrived at our house carrying two mango smoothies.Lily accepted one, took a sip, and immediately smiled.“You really do know me best. When it’s this hot outside, I have to have something cold.”Noah smiled with her, then handed the other smoothie to me.The two drinks were identical, from the flavor to the toppings. Both had been ordered according to Lily’s preferences. When we were children, Noah had been the only person who remembered me.One year, my entire family bought Lily gifts for the Moonlight Festival and forgot about me. Noah took my hand and said, “It’s okay, Evelyn. From now on, I’ll make sure you always have a gift.”But at some point, things began to change.First, he started buying two of everything—one for Lily and one for me.Then eventually, both gifts became things Lily liked.“Why aren’t you drinking it?” Noah asked. “I bought it especially for you.”I set the cup back on the table.“I’m allergic to mangoes.”Noah frowned as thoug

Mom’s expression immediately darkened.“What do you mean, I took money from your account? I opened that account for you. You eat my food and live under my roof, yet because I used eight thousand dollars, you’re calling me a thief?”“But I earned every dollar in that account myself.”If our family had truly been in financial trouble, I wouldn’t have refused to help. But Mom had taken everything I had saved over three years simply to buy Lily an expensive piece of jewelry she didn’t need.“Having access to the account doesn’t make the money yours. Taking it without my permission is stealing.”Hearing the argument, Damian and Noah came into the room.Damian immediately snapped at me.“Watch how you speak, Evelyn! She’s our mother, not a thief.”Noah frowned as well.“We’re family. There’s no reason to use such ugly words. Besides, Lily is about to start at Blackthorn Academy. What’s wrong with you, as her older sister, giving her a gift to celebrate?”“The problem is that I didn’t give it

The smile froze on Mom’s face.“Did you say Evelyn ranked first in the Northern Territory?”“That’s right. She also earned the highest score recorded in nearly ten years.”The reporter glanced toward the empty staircase.“Is she home? We need to conduct her exclusive interview and document the presentation of her scholarship.”Dad walked over with a frown.“There must be some mistake. Evelyn’s grades have always been lower than Lily’s. There’s no way she could have ranked first in the Northern Territory.”“The interview list was provided by the Seven Territories Education Council. There is no mistake.”Mom certainly couldn’t admit that they had taken Evelyn’s savings the day before and then personally ordered her out of the house.“She’s already gone to the hotel. We’re holding our family’s college acceptance celebration there this afternoon. She’ll be there.”The reporter wrote down the address and arranged to meet them at two that afternoon. The moment the front door closed, Dad’s ex

Mom snatched the score report from the reporter. When she saw the date of birth, pack registration number, and familiar identity mark, the color rapidly drained from her face.It really was Evelyn. The daughter she had decided was only capable of attending an ordinary college had ranked first in the entire Northern Territory.Meanwhile, Lily—the daughter they had been so proud of—hadn’t even made the top one hundred. The whispers around the ballroom grew louder.“Aren’t they twins? Why didn’t they hold the celebration for the one who ranked first?”“The Carters just said they gave all their best resources to Lily.”“Damian is the Beta of the Blood Moon Pack, yet he didn’t even know his own sister’s score?”Damian still couldn’t believe it.“Evelyn has never ranked in the top ten in her year. How could she possibly be first in the Northern Territory?”The reporter’s expression turned cold.“Evelyn Carter not only ranked first in the Northern Territory this year, but also earned the high

By the time my plane landed on the West Coast, the ocean outside the window had turned a deep shade of blue.I pulled my suitcase through the airport and found the Coastal Werewolf University shuttle waiting outside the terminal. The upperclasswoman welcoming new students checked my identity mark and quickly found my name on her list.“Evelyn Carter, first in the Northern Territory, correct?”I nodded.“Werewolf medicine. The Moonhealing Lab has already arranged early housing for you, and your dorm room is ready.”As the shuttle entered the Coastal Territory, my wolf visibly relaxed. The familiar scents of the Blood Moon Pack were nowhere to be found. No one could reach through a mind-link and order me to come home. The university had assigned me to a four-person dorm room, but my roommates hadn’t arrived yet.I spent the afternoon unpacking, then went to a nearby store and bought a set of light blue bedding. It was my favorite color.Back home, Lily had always been allowed to choose e

It took Dad two years to find me at Coastal Werewolf University. After class one day, I had just stepped out of the laboratory building when I saw him standing in the visitor area beyond the railing. The program prohibited me from initiating contact with my former pack, but it didn’t prevent family members from applying for ordinary visitor access.I didn’t know how Dad had discovered which university I attended, but he had spent the entire day waiting for me there. After two years apart, gray had spread through his hair at the temples, and he looked far more exhausted than I remembered. The moment he saw me, his eyes reddened. He hurried toward me and reached through the railing, trying to grab me.“Evelyn, I finally found you.”I stepped back and avoided his hand.“Why are you here?”Dad’s hand froze in midair. He forced a strained smile.“Come home with me. Your mother cries every day, and Lily can’t sleep at night because of you. You’ve thrown the entire family into chaos.”“That’s

A few days later, Noah came looking for me too.Heavy rain fell that weekend. When I walked out of the library, I saw him standing alone at the bottom of the steps, completely soaked.“Evelyn.”Noah hurried toward me but stopped when he reached me.“Why did you shut down our mind-link and block all my numbers? You at least owe me an explanation.”“I made myself clear before I left. We’re over.”His expression stiffened.“I thought you were only angry.”“Which means you never truly listened to anything I said.”He fell silent. After a moment, he finally apologized in a low voice.“I admit that I neglected you, and I shouldn’t have forgotten about your allergy. But I didn’t know you had ranked first in the Northern Territory. I thought you had performed the way you normally did.”“What does my score have to do with our breakup?”Noah couldn’t answer.“You never even asked what score I received. You changed your college plans for Lily, then decided that every objection I made came from je

Seven years later, I stood in the main hall of the Seven Territories Werewolf Medicine Summit and presented the Moonhealing Lab’s latest clinical breakthrough. The wolf-spirit restoration treatment we had developed could repair wolf-core damage caused by severe silver poisoning. It also allowed most werewolves who had lost the ability to shift to sense their wolves again. After passing review by the Seven Territories Medical Council, the treatment was scheduled to be introduced at medical centers across every pack. When my presentation ended, the entire audience rose in applause. The president of the Medical Council personally placed the Red Moon Medal of Medicine in my hands.“Dr. Evelyn Carter, congratulations on becoming the youngest recipient of the Red Moon Medal in the history of the Seven Territories.”Seven years earlier, I had been an eighteen-year-old girl dragging a suitcase away from the Blood Moon Pack. Now, I had earned my doctorate in werewolf medicine, become the chief
