Chapter 1

Valentina Sharpe came back faster than I expected.Ignoring everyone who tried to stop her, she charged into the burning villa.Watching her risk her life like that left me dazed for a moment. It felt like I went back to eight years ago. That young girl, fierce despite her youth, had risked everything to save me back from that old hag. But now the person she was willing to risk her life for was someone else. When she rescued the young man, his face was badly burned. With Valentina by his side, he seemed even more emboldened to act crazy."You cruel, heartless bastard!"But Valentina grabbed him and held him back, firmly forcing down the hand he raised to hit me."Damon, you shouldn't have gone this far," she said. With a click of her lighter, she slowly lit a cigarette. That proved she was in a terrible mood.Strangely enough, I was feeling pretty good. I took a drag from her cigarette and lightly tapped her.I sneered, "I'm the one who should be saying that."Valentina frow

Things were no longer the same."This is the first time, and I hope it's the last."Valentina gently rubbed the bone in my wrist. Her voice was soft, but there was a chill in her eyes.Elliot protested angrily. "He burned my face and almost stabbed my eye. You're just going to—"Valentina glanced at him, and Elliot immediately shut up.The two of them walked away, leaving the wreckage behind. They didn't care what the others thought of me.I grinned. Funny enough, neither did I.…When I returned to my apartment, I started going through all the assets in Valentina's and my names. It took me until well past midnight. No wonder Elliot was so eager to take my place. Valentina and I had enough money to buy the entire southern district.I scoffed, then got ready for bed.A call came from an unknown number. Elliot's smug voice came through. "Mr. Lewitt, if you have any dignity left, you'll walk away from Tina. After all, you're getting old. What are you hanging around for?"I loo

Was it helplessness that Valentina felt? Pity? Or maybe disgust? The door burst open while I was in a daze, and Valentina stormed in.I glanced at her pale, frantic face and laughed. Was it really necessary? She was always so unflappable, yet she was sweating from panic."Tina, save me!" Elliot screamed desperately for her.Valentina, who was always ruthless and cold-blooded, looked almost pleading for the first time as she watched me point my gun at Elliot."Damon, don't hurt him."I raised an eyebrow and burst out laughing. "You actually care about him that much? Is it because he's not the one who killed your son?"Valentina's expression stiffened, and she finally lowered her gaze."I wronged you," she said, "but you're the only man who will ever hold that place in the Sharpe family. Nothing will ever change that!"Fuck that bullshit about me being the man of the Sharpe family.I kicked Elliot in the stomach. He screamed and doubled over in pain.Valentina's face twisted

Chapter 4

I lowered my eyes in thought as the diamond ring in my palm dug painfully into my skin."Sir, you shouldn't put any strain on your wrist." A gentle voice brought me back to the moment.Lucia Janson gently bandaged my wound, then slowly took the diamond ring from my hand and tossed it into a box.My eyes fell on her. I had picked her up six years ago.Lucia was even more ruthless than Valentina.Valentina still had family and people she cared about, but Lucia had grown up on the streets as an orphan. Yet somehow, this wild, untamable woman showed me a loyalty I never expected.A spark lit up in my eyes, and I pulled her toward me. "Lucia, would you dare to marry me?"Lucia was tough, but she willingly leaned against me. A bold, alluring look crept into her eyes. She answered firmly, "I would."The next day, we got married. Then we decisively split up everything Valentina and I owned. All these years, I had worked in the open while Valentina operated behind the scenes. Most of t

Elliot stammered, "How are you—"I picked up right where he left off. "How am I still alive, right?"Valentina hurried over and pulled me into her arms. She hugged me so tightly that it hurt.Everyone on the board breathed a sigh of relief. If I were gone, Blackwood Group would lose half its power.I pushed Valentina away and called out to Lucia outside the door. "Come in."Lucia brought a man in and forced him to the ground.Elliot's face instantly went pale.Danny Pierce was Elliot's cousin, and he was the one who sneaked into my house to plant the bomb.Valentina had already regained her composure after the incident. She glanced at the man on the floor and frowned."Who is this?" she asked.I lifted my chin toward Elliot. "Ask him."Danny panicked and quickly called for help. "Elliot, save me! Please!"Elliot froze in place. Once he realized what was happening, he glared at me. "Damon, why did you tie up Danny? Was losing one ear and a hand not enough for you?"Seeing h

Elliot screamed. His face turned deathly pale as he collapsed to the floor. In an instant, there was a sharp clang. A faster blade blocked Derrick's attack.Valentina's expression was grim. "Derrick, you don't get to lay a hand on my man."With that, she shoved him away.Derrick looked furious, but with everyone watching, he had no choice but to hold his anger in.Lucia smiled and stepped forward. "I'll do it."I reached out to stop her and whispered in her ear, "Don't worry about getting revenge for me yet. Splitting up our assets comes first."Her ears turned red, and she obediently backed down.Valentina watched our every move intently, her expression unreadable.I said no more and tossed her the contract I had prepared long ago. "Take a look. If you agree to the terms, sign it. Let's end things peacefully."Valentina didn't even look at it. She tore it in half."What's the meaning of this? You're trying to dump me?" She shook her head and spat, "In your dreams!"I fro

Valentina grabbed Elliot by the throat and pinned him against the wall with a loud bang."Wasn't the mess you'd caused bad enough?" she snarled. At the sight of Elliot's reddened eyes and pitiful expression, Valentina let him go.He choked back a sob. "Tina, I'm the only person who would never betray you. I'm completely yours, body and soul."His words clearly hinted at something Valentina cared about.Valentina whipped around to face me and demanded, pointing at Lucia beside me. "Did you sleep with her?"I hadn't just slept with Lucia. We were even married.I looked at Valentina, not saying a word. Then, without warning, she pulled out a gun and fired at Lucia. Gunshots rang out in rapid succession.Lucia reacted quickly and dove under the long table.Just as Valentina started walking toward her, I raised my gun and aimed it at Elliot's head. "Stop!"With the tense crowd between us, Valentina and I calmly stared at each other."So you really did fall for someone else." A m

Lucia and I changed cars outside and headed back to my place. Before we even got home, the men under me started calling one after another. They were all asking about the split. After reassuring them one by one, Lucia handed me a glass of liquor. I downed it in one gulp.Lucia sounded a little helpless. "Slow down. This stuff is strong.""I'm just so happy! Did you see the look on Elliot's face at the end?" I asked. She gave me a faint smile, not nearly as excited as I was.I noticed her mood and asked, "What's wrong?""When are you going to announce that we're married?"There was a hint of hurt in her eyes.I smiled without answering."Are you afraid Valentina will know?" She was trying to provoke me. The usually composed Lucia was showing a youthful impatience for once.I looked at the glass in her hand. She was gripping it so tightly that it was almost breaking. With a sigh, I asked, "Why are you in such a hurry?"Lucia turned her head away and sulked, refusing to speak
