The two sisters frowned at me in unison."Are you sure?""Y-Yeah. I'm sure." I picked up their clothes and help them dress again as I spoke. "I'm tired today. Once I'd made up my mind, I called the Contract Registry at Central Administration. They told me that because my relationship with the sisters had originally been established through a purchase contract, terminating it would be fairly simple. All I had to do was bring in the original paperwork and sign a few forms.I dug out the sales contract and left the house, but halfway there, I changed my mind and decided to go to the military headquarters first.After all, we'd lived together for five years. Most Shifters sold on the black market were low-level Shifters with no real rank to speak of. So when I found Ruby, I never expected her to satisfy me. Normally, even Sierra and Sabrina, both high-level Shifters, could barely keep up with me. Compared to them, Ruby was just a frail little snow leopard. I nodded, and the color drained from Sierra's and Sabrina's faces. Sierra immediately started, "I can explain—""You don't need to explain anymore." I shook my head. "Maybe you really did get close to Eli because you wanted to find out whether the ending you were supposedly destined for could be changed. Maybe you really do love me. "But whatever your reasons were, your feelings are real, and so is the hurt you've caused me." I took a breath before continuing, my voice quieter but no less firm. "I don't want to keep living like this—barely getting by while constantly wondering whether I'm wanted or whether you'll eventually leave me behind. Just let me go. Just let me go."
